“EXCELLENT ALL INCLUSIVE FIRST CLASS HOTEL AT A GOOD PRICE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2009

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two weeks from 20th September 2009, this is an excellent all inclusive hotel, staff could not do enough for you.

The junior suite rooms are excellent with all facilities and are very spacious.

Two all inclusive restauarants for breakfast, lunch and dinner catering for many nationalities, the standard of food is good with plenty of variety.

Fatima's restaurant located near the beach not to be missed but our favourite was the Italian restaurant located in the main building with was fabulous with views overlooking pool 1.

Four pools in total, kept spotless with plenty of sun beds for all.

Pizza and barbeque stations near to pool 1 was excellent for snacks etc.

A number of bars situated around the complex.

All in all a superb two weeks with no complaints, go there and enjoy yourself.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2009

We got back from the Sunrise Island yesterday and overall had a very enjoyable stay. I would rate the hotel as an average 4 star, some areas are very good but others could improve.

We were a family of our, myself, husband, our daughter and her fiance. We were upgraded to Junior Suites at no extra cost, I am not sure of the reason why but werent going to grumble! The rooms were very comfortable although the cleaning could definately improve, mainly in the bathroom. The sanitary ware itself was kept clean for us but the wall tiles needed a good scrub. The floor was tiled throughout and although it was cleaned most days with a mop it was a cursory clean only. I dropped a cotton wool bud below the dressing table and left it to see what happened, i picked it up myself 3 days later. On some days nothing was done at all apart from the bed being made.

Often we were only given one bath towel and sometimes our toilet rolls were taken away, never could figure the reason for that but housekeeping brought us some when we asked.

The fridge was stocked daily with 2 bottles of water. For some reason we were only given cans of fizzy orange other than the water, our daughter had a coke, lilt etc . and despite our telling the room boy we didnt like the orange and asking for coke we only got it once and then it was back to the orange. The orange and water were replenished whether consumed them or not, we had quite a fridge full by the end.

There are 4 pools at the hotel, we mainly used the top pool and Ahmed the attendant there was one of the reasons we stayed there. The quiet pool was very nice but there is no bar and no toilets in that area.

The bottom pool we used a few times and that was fine apart from the music which sometimes was very loud and trance type music which really was not condusive to a relaxing day around the pool. The other pool we never used, that was the busiest pool with the animators and again loud music. Obviously this was our individual taste and not a criticism of the hotel.

The food at the buffet restaurant was very good, there was always a good selection, the salads in particular we enjoyed. None of us had any tummy problems during our stay but we were aware that on a couple of occasions the chicken was not adequately cooked. There was however a severe problem with the main restaurant and the lack of cutlery, it was a rare occasion even when we were first in the restaurant to find a table for 4 with the full compliment of cutlery, dessert spoons particularly were at a premium! There were never any teaspoons and rarely saucers and I really dont expect to sit at a 4 star hotel and have to drink tea/coffee from a cup with no saucer and have to stir it with a fork handle but thats the way it was. Also plates, bowls continually ran out and it took a long time for them to be replenished. Bearing in mind that we visited out of the main season I cant imagine that this hotel can cope when its full. We ate several times at the lunch buffet at Fatimas and that was fine, same as the main restaurant but not such a selection. We went there once for dinner and it was dreadful, the choice is very poor, we had mixed grill and the chicken was running with blood. We had dinner once at the Italian, the food there is beautifully presented but we were not overly impressed otherwise.

Tables for the evening meal around the pool are hard to come by unless you are seated by 6.30 at the latest and parasols were also hard to get after 8.30 am. Again bearing in mind this is out of the main season, I really can understand some peoples complaints about this hotel. The outside eating area of the main restaurant not only suffered from the lack of cutlery but also glasses, again I was not impressed with drinking wine from a perspex beaker or a small juice glass.

We found all the staff very friendly and helpful, one afternoon our air conditioning wouldnt work and they were there to fix it within 5 minutes. We also used the hotel taxi service which was excellent.

The in house reef is excellent although if you want to see plenty of fish, you need to go mid to late afternoon. We didnt sit on the beach but it all looked very nice, plenty of beds, a bar and snacks available.

We went with Thomas Cook and Natalie our rep was very good, our welcome meeting was very informative and absolutely no pressure to buy trips.

Would I return to this hotel and would I recommend it to friends? Yes certainly, although most definately not during the main season as I really feel they struggled to cope during under occupancy.

We stayed at the Sunrise on the 30th August for 2 weeks honeymoon. The room we had was great, we had a view right over Titan Island and we can't fault the layout of the rooms. They are spacious and clean.

The weather was fantastic, every day was 39 degree or above and the evenings never got below 25 degree.

The a la carte restaurants was great, (Fatima's) it down by the sea and the mixed grill is out of this world The main which is buffet style has a great range of food and desserts were lovely. The restaurant is very clean and tidy. The staffs are great to really make you feel welcome.

The beach was nice and we managed to get sun beds every day with out any problems. Snorkelling was out of this world and the fish were amazing.

At the pool bar at night with one guy on a guitar singing songs, but our favourite place was Victoria Bar inside upstairs at reception and the service is great. The bar staff are really friendly and helpful. There is another bar -Terrace bar which is inside also upstairs next to the shopping arcade but we didn’t use it.

We had an amazing honeymoon and are planning to go back same time next year!!!

This hotel is lovely, people who MOAN about food abroad should STAY HOME and eat fish and chips. The people are friendly they,re not pushy very helpfull. The resort was beautifull with 4 pools very clean plenty of beds the beach area was great . The beach had its own anemation team and the bar was close ,also the snackbar and restuarant were afew steps only to walk .I am dissabled I find walking any distance uncomfortable but there was a little bus who taxi,s anyone to the beach and back as the beach is a little way to walk through the beautifull gardens and also down a slope. My partner and I have just come back from Sharks Bay we went again in September with friends ,we thought wede try a different hotel we booked into the Hilton 2 hotels from the Sunrise although we had a good holiday ,it didnt match up to the SUNRISE.all in all good holiday good food FANTASTIC snorkaling and HOT HOT weather.ps very important if you have walking difficulties the WC was only a little way up a few steps from the beach.

Stayed at Sunrise Island View 10th-24th September. I'll stick to the points!

Food -
In the main restaurant there was always lots of choice, but mostly I just found the choices to all be bland. There was never any real flavour in anything. Having said that, breakfasts were good, lots of cooked and continental choices and good omelette and pancake stations. Lunch was ok, but by the time I got to dinner I'd occasionally lost the will to live and ordered in a KFC from Naama Bay (I hasten to add I ALWAYS try and usually enjoy local food wherever I go on holiday and have never gone down the Macdonalds/KFC route on holiday before! Honest!)

The Italian was much better than the Main Restaurant, but had limited choice. We never ate at Fatimas in the evening as the staff were so miserable I refused out of principle, but we did have a few choiceless continental breakfasts (I agree with what I overhead one gentleman say - "I'm never getting up late and missing breakfast at the main restaurant again!") and a few reasonable lunches.

Don't bother with the midnight snack - its literally dinner's leftovers.

Service -
Service was a mixed bag. Our housekeeper was a little legend, giving us extra water a few times, I assume, just because, as we never asked for them! We had towel art on our bed a few times and he even made designs out of my costume jewelllery on the bathroom counter. We were regulalry very lazy and slept in, and he never complained about the time we slept really late after our Cairo trip and he couldn't clean our room until 3pm.

As I said, the staff in Fatimas were without exception miserable and in a few cases utterly pointless. In contrast, the staff in the Italian were excellent, particualry the one waitress. We found that a lot of the waiters in the Main Restaurant were more interested in standing around in groups and counting out their tips with each other, especially at about 9.45pm every evening, but little Islam was an absolute star, best thing about the whole place, never asked for tips and seemed to enjoy working hard and providing good service - all the guests on the left side of the restaurant (his area) loved him! Towel attendant at Pool 4/Beach was a real character as well.

Entertainment -
God, where do I start. Every night of the week one man and his guitar were murdering decent songs around the pool. It was like listening to the X Factor's bad auditions on repeat. The Animation Team were lovely and tried their best but it was all audience participation type stuff that leaves our blood cold so it wasn't really our thing! Although there were plenty of people who did love it. The nightclub wasn't all inclusive and played horrible euro-dance music that the Poles and Russians loved but really wasn't our thing ( I hasten to add we're only 25!)

Presentation -
Rooms were comfortable, if not a little tired. We had twin beds but pushed them together and the housekeeper made them up as a huge double. Telly had plenty of English channels so when the entertainment got too much to take we were able to watch movies. The grounds are beautiful and constantly being maintained. To be fair, everything seemed well maintained and clean, no complaints there.

Beach -
Best part about this hotel. The reef is out of this world and we spent so much time snorkelling. You HAVE to do it. There were always beds on the beach and we spent all our time we weren't on trips on the beach and in the sea. We never tried a pool as the beach was too good to be away from, but it seemed that the variety of pools meant there was one for everyone no matter what you want from your holiday.

Some tips -
- Give your taste buds a break and order in a KFC or McDonalds, especally when you get in late and the most starving you've ever been in your life from Cairo or Jerusalem.
- Take a mini pillow from reception and a beach towel for sleeping under on overnight coach trips.
- DOn;t worry about tipping - the only staff who seemed to expect it were porters at the start of the holiday and they were chuffed with £1.
- Don't book your trips with Thomas Cook, they are an absolute rip off. We booked ours with Sharm Club and with the exception of a disatrous Ras Mohammed boat trip were all great.

We did have a good holiday at the Sunrise Island View, but I wouldn't go back again. I think 2 weeks was too long for the down sides to be outweighed by the good points towards the end.
