“Pleasant stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Stayed here for just over a week. Nice large rooms but the bathrooms are awful. All the plastic in the bath is stained yellow, gunk and rust coming out of metal fixtures ie the taps and toilet. Really awful. Food was ok. Some good some not. Did some nice BBQ meats and the Italian was good. Some of the staff are really nice like the lifeguard by the pool and some of the waiters. They were really nice to our kids. There is a high percentage of Russians but I already knew that but I thought I would rather chance them rather then be around drunk Brits. No one was drunk and caused any problems although they can be rude to the waiters. The beach is lovely and the snorkelling off the jetty is amazing. Overall we had a good stay but Island View please sort your bathrooms out otherwise we would'nt go back for that reason alone.

We came to this hotel over new year (see previous review). The Island view has always, in our opinion, been known for its splendid gardens, rivers and snorkelling, along with really good service from the staff.

Unfortunately, there are now only 2 rivers running through the grounds, well 1 really as the 1st is near the 2nd pool and doesn't go anywhere. They used to be really good features, especially if you had a garden room. To look out and see a water feature outside of your room was something different. Our room this time was looking out onto 1 of the rivers, "it was a 1 bedroom with a sofa bed", only it was a dry river bed, no water! That's a shame because we always thought that this was 1 of the features that led to the Island View being a 5* hotel.

We are now starting to see "additional extras" to the all inclusive, which in our opinion takes away from the expectations of a 5* hotel. The sea food restaurant is now an extra "payable", also, they have included Movenpick icecreams, also a payable extra, wine is payable extra in the bar upstairs and 1 of the bars has gone completely (used to be near the shops).

Building works have also started, which has seen 1 part of the guest rooms cordoned off. The path ways which used to be excellent are now really poor. There is broken concrete instead of footpaths.

I don't want this review to sound as though it's all doom and gloom, it isn't, there are really good staff working here who will do almost everything they can for you. We had 2 very different experiences at the speciality restaurants. 1st was at the Italian, it felt as though we weren't being given the level of service you would normally expect. We arrived on time, were seated promptly and given water and menus. Wine and soft drinks came a little later which wasn't a problem. We observed, what we could only describe as regulars, coming in after us, but being served before us, again we didn't have a problem with this. Then things got a little worse, we placed our order, our initial starter came, then the pasta dishes almost immediately after we had finished, 1 pasta was missing (my daughter's). I couldn't get hold of a waiter to ask where it was so gave up. We had finished our pasta, and it seemed like an age before we were given any attention, then all of a sudden a waiter came with all of the main dishes and was going to serve them before clearing the table of the other plates. All in all, not a good experience here.

Fatima's however, was a different kettle of fish. We asked the day before if they could fit us in the day after, at first they said no, then pulled out all of the stops and got us in. What a totally different atmosphere, very good service, nothing was too much trouble, wine was plentiful, what more could you ask for! A very, very good experience.

The main restaurant has a head chef who is exceptional with his guests. He is a tremendous asset to the Island View, he comes across as being very quiet but is a very sincere person. You'll normally see him in the evenings, he walks around the restaurant but doesn't make a fuss of himself. In the evening whilst we were sat outside of the restaurant, he would often ask if we would like a fruit platter (which he made himself), it was amazing!!!! A real top guy!! Ibrahim (waiter) and his supervisor, worked in the bottom right of the restaurant, along with all of the Chefs ( especially the head chef), they made our dining experiences fantastic! Yes there are other nationalities who charge round like a bull in a china shop, go a little later if this bothers you.

All in all, I think at the moment, the exterior, rivers etc, footpaths and rooms, really let this hotel down. Also, the introduction of "extras" to the AI should, in my opinion, have an effect on the star rating. If they are rating this hotel as 5*, everything should be included, otherwise you would end up staying in a 5* hotel but only given 3* all inclusive. Also, wine is only available in the restaurants, again this isn't ideal.

Given that the hotel is going through a renovation and that they have started to implement extra charges, I'd say at best, at the moment, this is no more than a 3.5* and most of that goes to the staff / chefs / waiters etc.

There was a person who was obviously staff, and gave the impression of being very important, driving around in a little golf buggy, but not interacting with any guests, no idea what his role was there?

We also stayed 8 days in the "Shores Amphoras" prior to arriving at this hotel - I have written a review about this hotel also.

Room Tip: I'd normally say, if you cant get a sea view room, ask for 1 overlooking 1 of the rivers, not mu...

Recently, my wife and I had a weeks holiday at Island View Resort. We had a fab time.
The temperature was always at least 37c, usually over 40c. But, not muggy!

The staff were great, big thanks to Mohammed (Head waiter), Ali (Ali Ali Ali Oi Oi Oi!) the lifeguard, Hassan and colleagues in the restaurants, Mustafa the beach lifeguard, and even our room cleaner.

Nothing was too much trouble, when my wife was ill there was no issue in taking food back to the hotel room for her.

I wanted to try snorkelling, but as a not too confident swimmer I asked Ali's advice. He told me to meet Mustafa at the beach; I gave a tip to hire equipment. What I got was equipment plus personal tuition too! It was well worth it; the view was stunning, and even as a non confident swimmer, the help and reassurance from Mustafa was priceless.

The spa/massage, what can I say apart from amazing; I actually fell asleep! Go for the £40 one, fabulous.

Very close to the airport; though I think if we go again we will probably just bag a taxi at the airport because I had to ring an agent in Cairo the day before returning to confirm the time for the transfer and it worked out ££.

Only downsides were rude Russians, but water off a ducks back to us although you can see how it would grate on the staff. Also we both had a spell of the runs; a pharmacy is right across the street from the hotel.

No proper chavs, but there were a few pools to choose from to lounge round so you could easily avoid the ones who look like Big Brother rejects.

We tried the on site Italian restaurant; very nice, quiet and great service.

We flew from Doncaster airport which was brill, quiet and a nice Wetherspoons too. Sharm airport departures is quite chaotic with about 7 UK bound flights all taking off at the sameish time and a rubbish café that sells cardboard burgers at motorway service prices.

All in all, recommended.

Room Tip: We didn't have a choice of room, but we really liked it as it was a proper big bed not twins. Th...

I have just returned from island view resort where my wife and I spent a week. It was a last minute booking as a replacement for a Nile cruise that got cancelled. We both enjoyed our week at island view. The staff were very friendly and made an effort. The rooms were clean and tidy apart from the bathroom which had a dirty bath. during our stay we had a problem with the toilet which I reported and was fixed straight away. The food was reasonable in quality and taste, but a little repetitive.
The swimming pools were really nice and well kept. Although there were renovations going on during our stay in did not affect us any way. We had no trouble getting a lounger on the beach. the beach was well kept at all times. The jewel in the crown is the ocean which has pontoons from the beach. You can see all kinds of fish just walking along the pontoons or snorkel in the roped off area just off the coral reef.
Soho Square is a short walking distance from the hotel and makes a nice few hours out in the evening.
In my view the only drawback was the amount of Russian people staying in the resort as they were loud and some just plain rude and lacking any manners.
As a final note we found it good value for money

Travelled to Island View with my Fiancé from 15th-29th June and found it a lovely hotel with great staff. There are a few cons as with any budget holiday but nothing that ruined our time there.

Here are a list of my top pro's and con's;

Pro's
1.Friendly staff, Islam in the main buffet restaurant always saved us a table and couldn't have been any more helpful. Remembered our drinks orders from day one which was a nice personal touch. Also pool guy at pool 4 always had two sun loungers and a parasol waiting for us which was lovely. Also to mention at pool 4 (known as the "quiet pool") you would get your drinks brought to your loungers so need to even get up!

2. Lovely grounds, always saw the gardeners keeping the property looking perfect.

3. Rooms are spacious and have lovely balcony’s. In need of a little renovation which is currently being done. Our air con didn't work very well despite two visits to try and correct it.

4. Great location less than a 5 min walk from Soho square and 15 min drive to the airport.

5. The snorkelling off the jetty is lovely.

6. Great value for money.

7. Had two large bottles of water delivered daily to the room which saved a lot of money, also daily cleaning service which is unusual.

8.Had a lovely couples full body massage and sauna/hot tub for a good price.

Con's
1. The food was fairly repetitive in the main buffet restaurant. Breakfast was nice as long as you weren't too late as the good bits (warm croissants) ran out around 9/half 9. Option of an omelette which was nice when cooked properly, not so good when still raw! Lunch had the best selection in the main restaurant with a choice of fresh sandwiches, pasta, full dinners or chips and pizza. For dinner you are allowed 1 visit per stay to both a la carte restaurants (which I haven't experienced before despite having several all-inclusive holidays so found this a little unfair). I wouldn't waste your time going to Fatima's, it's hot as it's outside and the service was very lax. Food ok but nothing special. The manager of Fatima's was very open to learning how to improve the service when we spoke to him so this was a positive. Lastly there is the Italian restaurant which was brilliant, lovely food and great service.

One point to mention, you are only able to get wine in the main restaurant not at the pool bar or any other bars, which was very disappointing to me as it is all I drink but I guess for the price you can't complain too much.

2. There are a lot of Russians, it didn't ruin my holiday but their lack of manners certainly wasn't the high point. It is also nice to socialise with other people on holiday and this meant we couldn’t really do this. The animation team do organise trips out of the hotel to Pasha, beach party etc. watch night where you can meet other English people but they charge £25 per person and don't leave until 11:30 getting back at 3:30am which was a little expensive and late for us!

3. There is some renovations going on around pool 4 which i said above was the quiet pool but with the renovations it wasn’t really very quiet and lots of screaming kids meant it wasn't so peaceful. Noise is contained to pool 4 but as pool 3 wasn't open and pool 1 and 2 were very crowed no other options really.

4. Entertainment in the evening was disappointing, this has nothing to do with the animation team who are lovely and always trying to get you involved. Was lovely speaking with the two English reps who would just sit and have a chat with us. However after being there 2 weeks we saw the same show three times and the Amphitheatre was awful, its concrete stepped seating in front of a small stage. No air in there so very hot and no option to get drinks. This meant we spent most nights sitting by the pool having a few drinks.

Overall it was a lovely relaxing break which was such good value for money. With a little improvement and some more English people this will be a beautiful hotel. Would I go back to Egypt, definitely, would I go back to Island view, perhaps not.

Got back from there this morning, after staying for 11 nights. All of the staff were very friendly and the animation team were constantly enthusiastic and lively. Ali the lifeguard was one of the nicest people I have ever met and if you want an amazing cocktail then find Mohammed at the pool bar! The hotel ran a club shuttle bus service every night which would take you to and from nightclubs. Hotel is in a great location however renovations everywhere stopped it from being perfect

We just returned from this hotel where we stayed 11 nights at the end of June, beginning of July in room 271. We found the rooms were very dated and not always as clean as it could have been. One night a panel from our ceiling fell down and another we had no hot water coming from the tap. However, this was not an issue because, having rung reception they resolved the problems within fifteen minutes. The hotel was in an excellent location; a minutes walk to soho square and only 20 minutes from naama bay. The service was also excellent, Ahmed was very friendly and arranged for us to have a second visit to the Italian restaurant. Food and beverage manager Ahmed was also brilliant, having organised for us to receive a fresh fruit bowl and a cake on our anniversary. Mahmoud on pool 4 was certainly lovely to talk too, his English outstanding And after 2 days remembered our orders. The only downside to our visit was the food, unfortunately it wasn't to our tastes. Because of this we ate out in soho square a couple of times at a reasonable price. Our dining in Fatima's was the most memorAble of our stay. The fresh stone baked pizzas for lunch was our favourite, but the moussaka can't go a mention either. The a la carte dinner in Fatima'a was extraordinary. A platter of meat, salads, sides and fresh bread arrived at our table whilst looking at the menu. We had lentil soup for starter and then our main of mixed grill and chicken arrived on a mini BBQ which Allowed us to further grill our mains. This was one of the best holidays we have been on, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Once the refurb is done we will most certainly return. Thank you for a great holiday :)

Room Tip: Room 271 was near to the beach and pool four. :)
