Just got back from a weeks stay at the Grand Rotana today and had to come on here to say how wonderful it is!

My friend & I only booked it 3 weeks ago and managed to get a fantastic deal with Libra Holidays (£389 for HB). It was more than we were originally wanting to pay for a last minute break but after reading all the other reviews on here we decided to go for it and, boy was it a good decision as it's one of the best places I've ever stayed at!

The pictures on the hotels website don't do it justice. It really is a beautiful hotel. There are so many staff there (hotel was only 42% full when we arrived and it sometimes felt like there were more staff than guests). There is always someone there to attend to your every need and they are such friendly, helpful people. Most of the other guests there were Egyptians and Russians and I think my friend & I stood out as being 2 western women which got us extra attention. (Sometimes more than we bargained for as we got asked out by 3 different members of staff there despite me wearing my wedding & engagement rings). The staff also told us that they like British guests as we tend to be very polite, especially compared to some other nationalities!

When we arrived, we asked it was possible to get a free upgrade as the hotel wasn't that full, and after much joking with the chap on reception about how "I shouldn't really but since you have beautiful smiles etc..." he upgraded us to a lovely room overlooking the pool and sea. We had a twin room with big single beds and huge bathroom.

Apart from the odd snack at the pool bar (which are great value for money), we only ever ate in the Ramses restaurant. I'm a very fussy vegetarian and usually struggle with food on holidays but the food here is excellent so we didn't feel the need to eat elsewhere. It's buffet style and there is a really good choice every nice. It's easy to be as healthy (lots of fruit and salads) or as unhealthy (chocolate donuts for breakfast anyone?) as you like. The staff in there are lovely - especially Geham (one of the few female members of staff at the hotel), Ossama & Ahmed.

We booked a Scuba Diving trip with the lovely Mario at the Camel Diving Club which is based on the beach at the hotel and would 100% recommend that. We also did a scuba diving trip which was about £30 through the travel rep and was also great fun.

Even though we were there out of season, the hotel still puts lots of things on. Ok, so some of it isn't very exciting (singer in the lobby some evenings singing old "classics" such as Careless Whisper & an Opera DVD outside in the ampitheatre at sunset) but even though there weren't many guests, the choice is still there unlike in many other hotels.

It's well worth getting the courtesy bus into Namma Bay some evenings for a busier night out. (There were only 3 buses per day though - not sure if they have more during peak season but a taxi is only about £4.50 each way). Be aware though that if you go to Pacha club that tourists get charged more (worth while making friends with the hotel staff who claim they can get you in cheaper, although we only found this out too late havng already forked out £15 each for a ticket)! A good place to go for drinks is the Camel Bar which has a fab rooftop bar.

I could go on for a lot longer about the other virtues of this hotel but I'd be repeating things other reviews have said. I will say though it's the first holiday I've been on which I've been really sad to leave and I'm already trying to sell it to my husband in the hope that we can go back soon because I'm missing it already!

Second time at this hotel and it was again, excellent!.
Perhaps it could do with an extra restaurant, but overall the facilities are fantastic. In a party of 3 families we were looked after extremely well by the staff, who made us and our children very , very welcome.
The clients base appeared to be 95% Russian, and the Egyptian staff seem to really appreciate the courtesy and respect they received from the Brits compared to the general surliness of the the Ruskies!
The Silk Road restaurant was magnificent, and the Sky bar was a great place to finish the night with a cocktail and a 'Shishee', with the staff kindly providing shawls when the temperature drops
The ability to literally walk a hundred yards along a pontoon and jump into a world of tropical fish makes also makes this a very special place. We would definately recommend it!

My friend and I booked our holiday through a lastminute website and got an incredible deal, this hotel would have been so out of league otherwise!! Holiday was amazing, 5* in every sense - the rooms and grounds of the hotel are pristinely clean and beautiful, the staff without exception go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, and of course March in Egypt was somewhat warmer than in good old Blighty! This was absolutely ideal for a relaxing week away, however Sharm's nightlife was a bit disappointing - went into town a couple of nights as the 5* prices in the hotel restaurants were killing us! The town itself is about a 10min cab ride away, getting there is fine, finding your cab on the way home is a bit epic though. If you enjoy haggling for your souvenirs there's plenty of opportunity, and lots of mediocre places to eat - really though, it's do-able in one trip, so I'd say a week in the resort is probably long enough. Don't miss the day trips to Cairo / Luxor - but when we went to the Pyramids it was MUCH cooler than Sharm...!

“Sanctuary in the winter sun”

Grand Rotana Resort & Spa

This was probably one of the best hotels I have stayed in. We went for a winter sunshine break, and we loved the calm relaxing atmosphere of this hotel. The hotel is clean, modern and well managed.
On arrival you are welcomed with a cool glass of karkady (hibiscus) and shown to your room. We had a pool and sea view from the second floor. Very comfortable bed, bright bathroom, lovely balcony.
The hotel is a resort in itself. You can find all you need here, if you don't want to go exploring the Sinai. The shopping in Naama Bay is fairly good, depending on what you are seeking of course and the supermarkets in the old town are slightly cheaper. But after 2 meals off site we decided to stay in and eat in either of the restaurants. The Italian does fairly good pizzas and will do a room service take away. The Silk Road is just fantastic. As other reviewers have said it offers Thai, Indian & Chinese food. We had brilliant food, the Canadian Chef James even went to the trouble of making fresh fish fillets in batter for our nearly 3 year old daughter who wanted fish fingers and chips. It is good value, we ate at Naama Bay one night, it costed 300 Egyptian pounds for an average meal. The prices at the Silk Road are similar, but the quality and cleanliness are obvious to see and taste, even down to the fresh Indian pickles.
We had bought a B&B package, the breakfast buffet was fine, fresh tossed fried eggs and omlettes, the evening buffet is also good value. The resort facilities are very good. I had a nose roasting sauna 90 degrees C and a cleansing steam bath in the spa. My wife had a Thai massage that was very relaxing. The beach side cafe is lovely. The pool side service is fine, the musak not too loud, and the pool is clean if a little cool. At this time of year it is not too hot 23 to 25 degrees C, just comfortable.
The hotel staff made us feel very welcome, no hassles, they made a big fuss of our daughter and other children. You get the impression that it is all very easy and effortless, but do not be deceived, the staff are working hard to make it special for you.

Stayed here with my partner from the 7th-14th December, and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for its spacious and beautiful setting, quality rooms and facilities and friendly (but not pushy) service.
I chose the hotel on the basis of the reviews on tripadvisor, and I have to say that where the negatives given by previous reviewers were concerned, we either didn’t experience them or they were easily avoided – yes some of the staff are a little eager to knock on your room door with unnecessary offers of extra towels etc, but this is easily fixed by using the “do not disturb” hanger whenever you’re in the room!
We had booked a sea view room and were upgraded to beachfront. The room was spacious and I agree with the previous reviewer re the bed – extremely comfortable, with nice crisp white linen, fluffy duvet and pillows. I’d say the room was comparable with what you’d get in one of the newer Radissons or Hiltons in the UK. Bathroom was fully marble tiled, with scalding (literally, it needed care) hot water so you could have a full bath run in 5 minutes. We did have a recurring problem with the lock on the patio door and had to ask quite a few times to get it fixed but so what – this is Egypt, not Switzerland, and although efficiency might not be their strong point, lots of other things are.
The pool is huge, though as mentioned before the main part isn’t heated so only for the hardiest and generally wasn’t being used. However there is a smaller heated area which was very warm, and the separate infinity pool / Jacuzzi was heated to a comfortable temperature. There were so many sunbeds both here and on the multi-level beach area, that we never had trouble getting a “good” space (ie one where you can barely see, let alone hear, any other people!). Also a BIG thumbs up to the Rotana for providing an Adults Only area (which also included the lovely infinity pool and one of the best views) AND actually enforcing it – so when the inevitable family with shrieking kids in tow think “ooh, a lovely quiet area, lets go and plonk ourselves down right in the middle of it” they are politely asked to occupy one of the several hundred empty areas elsewhere!
Snorkelling was also excellent. There didn’t seem to be any activities on offer though which was a shame, my partner was looking forward to beach volleyball, water polo etc but there was nothing being organised even when we asked around. Entertainment on the beach was mainly provided by spotting the elderly Russian gentlemen who had kindly brought their extremely young, generally blonde “carers” on holiday with them.
Food was the only less than perfect part of being here. Breakfast was first class, with the usual wide range of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cheese, meats, cooked items etc, and very tasty French toast, pancakes and omelettes. Lunch options were a reasonable menu served around the pool (pizzas, salad, burgers etc) which were usually OK but a bit pricey by Egyptian standards (£10 per head including a drink), a buffet in the main restaurant which I can’t comment on because £13.50 per head when we only wanted a light snack seemed a bit stupid so we never used it, or the Palms restaurant by the beach. The latter could be totally brilliant (fresh fish, calamari, prawns or lobster with rice or chips and vegetables from about £4 per meal depending on what you choose) if only they could fix the problem of stone cold fries, soggy cold onion rings and lukewarm veg. Full marks for the ice cold Sakara lager with a frosty glass, though.
We were on B&B, so split between the hotel and Na’ama Bay for evening meals. The Italian was OK but nothing special (and doesn’t fire up the pizza oven in the evenings, only for lunch). Again the buffet option was relatively expensive at £15 a head – especially as they only give you a £4 credit to eat elsewhere if you’ve paid for half board, which is a bit of a joke really -so we didn’t try it. We ate at the Silk Road a couple of times and found the food to be very good quality here, especially the meats, and the bill not much more than £15 a head anyway – though you could rack it up very easily if you had three of the more expensive courses and didn’t stay away from the wine list. Especially recommend the coconut crème brulee – wonderful. Although the hotel was allegedly 75% occupied it never felt like it, and there were never any more than about 10 people in either Silk Road or Mezzaluna in the evenings!
We were pretty disappointed with the restaurants we’d had recommended to us in Na’ama (eg Dananeer) and ended up sticking to the Hard Rock café, where meals did resemble what the menu said and it was a really fun atmosphere. Don’t mess about with the cabs, offer them 30 Egyptian to go into Na’ama and don’t budge, and hand over the money as soon as you get in. We had no problems with this method and no hassle. Similarly with the shopkeepers and other various touts who will accost you on the street in Na’ama – it does seem rude but you have to totally blank them, as there’s no middle ground between this and getting involved in a half hour high pressure sales pitch! If you go into the biggest mall just beyond Hard Rock though, all the shop owners there will let you browse in peace. Overall, a really relaxing, quality holiday.
