“a lot better than expected!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012 NEW

this was my first holiday abroad so after many terrifying stories about the type of people out there i was and wasnt looking forward to going, however, when i got there a bell man came out to the car to meet us and took our bags for us and waitied while we checked in. as we checked in someone tapped my partner on his shoulder and we turned round to be greeted by the bar staff with a drink then we got shown to our room.
the room was a decent size, perfect for us, with a balcony which gave a beautiful veiw of the sea from one side and the pool from the other. the room was very clean, however there were a few ants which got sprayed straight away and we didnt have anymore afterwards (me having a huge bug phobia i felt it was delt with quickly and efficently). the bathroom was a bit disappointing in the cleanliness, the bath had stains in and the tiles were a bit dirty inbetween. we also got given a pack with information about excursions and a list of things which could help you enjoy your stay more by avoiding illness such as, not drinking their water, not drinking much alcohol as it dehyrates you, drink plenty of water and not to sleep with the air con on over night which i thought was very usefull.
the next day we walked round to view the hotel as we arrived quite late at night, and its splendid! a massive hotel with its private beach, fantastic! not a very big beach but big enough with sun loungers and parasols (the sun loungers which have blue and white stripped towels on are reserved so you can come back to the same seat after walking in the sea) the majority of sun loungers are taken up unless you get there early, the one major downside to the hotel is the amount of russians, the must wake up at the crack of dawn and sunbathe from dawn till dusk! the sea is beautiful and was especially fascinating for me as i am used to seeing mud like sea water but its crystal clear and if you paddle about as foot deep you have a beautiful tropical fish swimming round you (which by law your NOT allowed to catch).
the pool has 4 parts to it, a game type pool, kids pool, heated pool and a regular pool. the game pool is where aqua arobics, water polo ect takes place. a fair few sun loungers around the pool but same as the beach to get a sun lounger you have to be down there early to get a decent seat due to russians. there is a pool side bar and also inbetween 11-12 (i think) there is poolside food which was a chicken curry mini burger, liver mini burger and chips which were very nice. at night the pool is lit up with underwater lights which looks stunning! theres also night entertainment by the pool. at 10am and 2pm everyday the holiday reps do a dance pool side which will have you jig no matter what, it was so catchy but my partner got sick of it by the end of the week but i loved it! while sun bathing you do get hassled a lot by people trying to sell you excursions if thats what your there for brilliant but for me it was about relaxing, you can ask for a red flag to put up so noone bothers you from the towel booth. at 11am the pool side staff come round and put the parasols up as the hottest parts of the day is 11am-3pm.
the ouyen restaurant is a buffet, as you walk in you will be greeted by staff and you garb a plate and help yourself. ths is when you realise how rude russians are! pushing you out the way and pushing infront of you, you either bite your tongue or like me say whats on your mind (which they dont understand anyway so just stand and stare at you) as you walk through youll walk past a tea and coffee station then pastries, the hot buffet, live cooking which is done out of the balcony, more hot buffet, salads bread then the bar. the food is of a decent standard, the bread is made fresh everyday and theres also an egyptian corner and a healthy corner and a kids corner. everyday is the restaurant me and my partner had the same table and we had the same server called Ahmed, he was brilliant! hed have a glass of coke ready on our table for each of us and as soon as our glasses were almost empty hed fetch the glasses and bring us fresh drinks untill we said we were finished. he was an excellent server and absolutly lovely so keep an eye out for him! they have different theme nights for dinner like one night was russian then english then italian. there are 3 other restaurants onsite, an oriental, fish and italian which i didnt go to unfortunatly but they looked beautiful!
every, morning housekeeping come and clean your room very well! sweep, mop, dust, change the bed sheets everyday, fresh towels they even dusted, swept and mopped the balcony! we came back to our room one morning to find 3 swans had been made out of our beach towels one by itself and two put together creating a love heart which was beautiful and another day it was just the towel as a background with a heart ontop made also out of the same towel which was also amazing!
we had a holiday rep, who told us some places we could visit, 3 places called, soho square, naama bay and old sharm. soho square is absolutly BEAUTIFUL! theres a supermarket, clubs, a british pub, ice rink, bowling alley, shops ect. noone bothers you at all and there are some stunning statues and figurines. soho square is about a 6-8 minute walk up the road, you will have people ask you if you want a taxi as you leave the hotel and leave soho square but its nice to walk. i didnt visit naama bay or old sharm as out rep told us naama bay is were theres more shops but more hagglers which will try and persuade you to buy and will keep you in the shop untill you do buy and old sharm, well there wasnt anything there.
our holiday was mainly a relaxed week and it really was! i read many of bad reviews so panicked a lot and kept getting told that as im blonde theyd be interested in me, es they did stop/slow down and stared but not once did they hassle me in that way. the staff were fantasic not once didnt i not see someone cleaning. overall an amazing holiday and i would definatly return, to be honest i didnt want to go home! it was an amazing experiance and a brilliant first time abroad! i was very impressed with everything :) if anyone has any questions or anything feel free to ask! and dont forget, when you go to the ouyen restaurant then look out for Ahmed! he will definatly look after you :) have a great holiday! :D

“fine stay...but they obviously dont care much for repeat business!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

My friend who owns a travel agent based in denmark, organised this holiday for me very last munite, so i didnt know what to expect!

Well, overall, i enjoyed my stay, after a very very much needed holiday!

I absolutely loved my room, as i wasnt expecting such a beautiful view, so that blew me away!

Beware the mosquitos but its nice to know that they recognise its a problem because they send this noisy smoke machine around in the evenings to send those little pests packing but unfortunately, during my stay, the mossies managed to get a feast of me!

The hotel staff were cool, the animation team were very friendly, however the service in the oriental restaurant was a shambles!

I liked the seafood restaurant, especially being invited to join a russian birthday dinner and having my arm twisted to dance to a russian song in the middle of the restaurant!Mortifyingly brilliant...HAHA!

The group hardly spoke english but they did make me feel welcome!

Its not an issue for me that the hotel was full of russians etc...after all..i was a foreigner there myself and all of us enjoying the good life encased by a warm hug from God!

What wouldve been quite cool was if they occasionally organised something at the hotel that wasnt just for kids, i.e pool party, dj in the lobby, something along those lines!

Now comes the bad part, since i enjoyed my stay, i sent the hotel an email to thank them for everything and that i was hoping to rebook, possibly twice this year.....

....I got no answer!

And then i sent an email to the head office saying the same thing.....

......i still got no answer!

Now, i dont know what you guys think about this but if i had a hotel and i had potential repeat business, i think i would jump at the opportunity to welcome returning guests back, who potentially could also drum up some new business as well in the form of recommendation to other potential customers!

Its meant to be a 5 star hotel, one would expect a follow up!

Do yourselves a favor aa grand oasis...dont wind up your fans!!

“First impression fantastic - closer inspection, sadly needing upgarding 3 star at a push.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012 via mobile

We booked a weeks holiday at 5 star AA Grand Oasis Sharm el Sheik,Sharks Bay Egypt. This was our first trip to Egypt on an all inclusive package although we usually do all-inclusive at mexico regularly. First impression of the hotel was fantastic. Foyer was impressive with large chandelier. The lobby bar had stunning views. We were due a garden view but had a pool/sea view so were very happy. However the pool had bumping thechno music all day through to 8-9pm each night. Egypt has strict religious views therefore my fiance and myself were given twin rooms because we were not married. There were constant sewage smells along the corridors leading to and from the rooms. At the pool the staff selling beauty treatments were often extremely pushy in trying to sell services such as facials, reflexology so much so that I felt, at times, I had to hide out to get away from then. Worst was the food. The hotel had a clientelle of around 90% russian, 10% british/egyptian/italian. The food is not catered to the british palate. The food was extremely bizarre. Boiled white chicken sausage and pureed potato for breakfast - no cereal, cooked breakfast etc. Lunch and dinner was no better. As a vegeterian my only option was sauteed potato with tomato and cucumber and crusty bread every day - lunch and dinner. They did not change the menu the whole week we were there. Ice cream was not on the all inclusive deal. We tried one of their A la carte restaurants - the oriental. Like myself you would think oriental meant chinese, indian, japanese or thai cuisine - no. Lentil soup, pureed potato, stuffed tomato, side salad then main course of a big load of different meat that my fiance could not eat because it was tough. Dry coconut cake for afters. The only light at the end of the tunnel were the staff. They could not have been more helpful especially Waheed who brought us drinks to our table every day morning, noon and night and Ahmed Youssef who was the chef who served hotdogs and chips at the pool each lunchtime and who cooked pizza in the only palatable restaurant in the hotel and who was the most mannerly and friendly person, and who made our holiday really memorable and special with a few added touches like flowers on our table on our last day. If you love a holiday with fantastic weather and friendly people, Egypt is definitely the place to go but beware of the food because it is not catered to the british palate. The AA Grand Oasis is supposed to be a 5 star hotel - a more realistic review would be 3 star as it could be doing with a bit of a face lift and a shak-up in the food department.

My partner and I spent two week's here from the 14th April - 28th April 2012. Firstly yes there are alot of Russian's here which isn't too great in the buffet restaurant. The resort itself is spotless and always being cleaned, the staff couldn't do enough for us they were so helpful.
I had read alot of disappointing reviews before we went but from our experience here they were clearly people that just like to moan... Fantastic holiday, really didn't want to return to the UK. We are trying to plan another visit to this resort. Thank's to all the staff at the AA Grand Oasis !

“Poor Hotel - Pro Russian & Anti Britsh”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

Firsly i would like to state that the review titled 'Information of true value' below is wholly refective and accurate of the hotel. The wife and I were put at the hotel under lastminute.com secret hotel as a five star hotel. Under no circumstances whatsover is this within 10 solar systems of a 5 star hotel, it is 4 at best with significant aspects being 3 star at best.

Firstly as stated in the review above the hotel is 80-90% Russian. These people seem to have failed to evolve from the stone age and have no social skills whatseover, they are rude in the extreme and absolutely vulgar, the hotel seems to cater for them exclusively. The food was awful and i state that as an accurate description, we ate out most times. Time and time again we went up and came back with just a drink. Hungarian Ghoulash made up as a pie with 90% pastry and a 3mm of layer of meat which just about sums it up.

The meat selection and fish was virtually non existence the food range consisted of rice, pasta, vegetables and salad mainly. There was not even any chips or anything basic like that. The drinks were watered down and outside by the pool the plastic glasses were little bigger than a mouthwash cup at the dentist which meant you had to go back time and time again. Just to prove it wasn't us, another couple form Rotherham complained bitterly to the manager within 2 days of getting there, that the food was awful and he was served warm beer.

The entertaiment staff called Animation who were Russian and Italian were definately anti British and never spoke to us for the entire week we were there, they would literally go round all the Russian people and the few Italian people and miss us out repeatedly. A couple of lads from Liverpool and another couple from Yorshire had exactly the same issues. Not that you were missing anything, imagine getting in some entertainmnet staff for your 8 year olds birthday party and that was about the level it was at, awful. They have some annoying song called La Boomba which they think it a cutting edge dance track, for which they do this 8 year old dance to it round the pool every 3 hours or so, unfortuantely it is about as good as the birdy song with dancing to match.

The last holiday we went to in Cancun the entertianment staff were absolutely great they made the holiday not so these people. We went to Judge Jules who had a set in Soho Sqaure and cost £30 each and had a brilliant, brilliant night. On the good side, the Egyptian staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome, 10/10 for them although as stated before a few tips does go a long way, the spa was very good we paid £300 for the two of us for a course of massages which were very good with jacuzzi and sauna room.

The health centre people were very fiendly and very good, but can harass you a bit during the day to buy their services. The hotel grounds were good though with nice vegetation that was meticulously maintained. The room was large and ok, not bad but outdated and not a 5 star quality room at all, room service and cleanliness were good, bed was squeaky though, sleep quality ok. The pools were ok but no swim up bar.

The hotel backs onto the sea but is very rocky and has no sandy beach as such, if you do go, get some diving shoes to protect your feet. Got stung to bits by the mosquitoes, so take something for that, and take something for the runs as we both had that quite badly for 5 days. The hotel reception is actually quite impressive but the hotel bar is bland and unattractive. There are two other bars, one round the pool and another by the sea, both serve snacks which are actually better than the main restaurant by some way.

There is a Chinese and Italian restauranrt, can't comment on these as we didnt try them but heard they were repetive and food was basic. The good thing about the hotel is that it is located in a good position with the lively Soho Square a 5 minute walk away where it is certainly a step up from the far bigger resort of Naama Bay which is a 10-15 tax ride away(sort taxi price out first).

Naama Bay is very lively but you will get hassled to hell, they prod you for a response as you walk by, things like, 'can we hassle you', 'BOGOF', 'better than Matalan' etc. They are fishing for a response from you to determine that you are British rather than Russian etc, If they find out you are British they hassle you even more.

You can organise excursions from the hotel which are very good, went to Arabain nights, Tiran Island, and Blu Hole Dehab, the last 2 were snorkelling orientated which is brilliant around the coral reefs, totally recommend it.

There is a good Oriental/Indian/Thai/Eqyptian restaurnat opposite HSBC bank as you walk into Soho Sqaure with a food hall down the step,s both were very good. There is also an English pub called the Queen Vic, great atmosphere for watching the football eg Barcelona/Chelsea game.

Overall, Sharm El Sheikh is lovely, the Egyptians were very friendly, the weather was great, plently to do regards excursions can go to Giza to see Valley of the Kings and do the Pyramids etc but don't go to this hotel if you are British, you won't like it. The few Britsh people there had exactly the same opinions we had and trust me I am not a complainer. Check out, 4 Seasons next door, Savoy and Sierra located in Soho Square
