Stayed march 13, weather wonderful. Hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed in. Comfortable, spacious, clean. The staff go out of their way to make your stay as good as possible. On check in had a few minor problems - the fridge didn't work, there were only 6 coat hangers and I mucked up the safe. made one phone call to reception and within 6 minutes we had 4 men at the door 2 to fix the fridge one with more hangers and the security guy to release my safe. The whole stay(14 nights) I only had one other problem a light bulb blew, saw the room porter who had it done straight away. The hotel manager was seen every morning walking around the hotel, talking to guests and staff alike, making sure everyone was happy. I was told that there were 2 tip boxes for the staff and that unless you tell the person you are tipping that it is for them they will put it into the box to be shared out among them all, this isn't exactly true it is only for the waiting and bar staff. The rest of the extra hard working staff don't get a look in, I approached the manager on this asking if another box could be put out but this is not company policy, I could of course left a tip for the rest by putting it in an envelope and leaving it with reception, I did point out that a small amount would not go very far and if it was collectively then everyone would be happy.
I understand from repeat guests that Thomson took over this hotel in November of last year and turned it into an adult only complex, which is really great, but that the entertainment had gone downhill from that time. No I don't want to have disco's, dancing and singing all night if I wanted night life I would have looked elsewhere, but sorry Thomson the so called entertainment you provided was basically a waste of money. Stick with low soft piped music and I am sure everyone would be much happier. The same singers, night after night.DnA were fine but after a couple of nights they even get boring.
The food is a standard AI buffet and repetitive not quite hot enough, but plenty to chose from. Tried the Italian OK Ali Baba menu needs a good look at I am sure the local cuisine is far more exciting than what is on offer, never saw anybody in there.
Drinks are hit and miss in strength one bottle could be far stronger than the next and the AI cocktails all 6 I think were not worth having. But you could pay £6 each for non- AI !!! Fruit juice is at least from a carton and not the typical syrups that a lot of places are serving these days.
The sunbeds around the upper (heated ) were all reserved by 7am as were most of the sunbeds near the beach bar, but there were lots of others and plenty of shade. Unfortunately the beach is a rather noisy area to be in with the surrounding hotels having super duper mega phones. And next door is a mainly Russian hotel with lots of children. Also the hotel has a spa and beauty parlor. The staff hawked their wares around the beach morning and afternoon, and I must admit it was a little annoying. The spa guy was at least only one person and having said "no thank you" would not bother you again. We did actually try the spa with a double massage package for both of us for £200. very nice it was too. But the beauty parlor is another matter, they have at least 4 people working the beach and they do not like taking NO for an answer and you are approached at least once if not twice a day, in the end I was rude and asked them to remove themselves from my sun light! They want £30 for a manicure and art which I priced up in my local salon on return and it was £20. Don't be fooled with the 'mothers day, easter, christmas, queens birthday' offers off a bogof it runs all the time, they really were a pain.
The hotel itself is situated a few minutes walk from the Old Market and a shopping complex is opposite. Not very many local restaurants here, was told to go into naama bay or beyond if you wanted to eat out. For once in our lives we didn't try this.
