“Lovely quiet hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

If you like snorkeling this is lovely, as you have a private reef that is only accessible to people staying at the Renaissance. The hotel is great with good food, good service and very helpful staff.

when we arrive there were a number of small ants in our room, but once we had contacted reception someone was on site within 10 minutes to spray the area, both inside and outside the apartment, and we never saw any for the rest of our stay there.

The family suite we had was spacious, clean and very comfortable.

Room Tip: Go for a family suite as it gives you a living room and kitchen, along with a separate bedroom.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

Having stayed in more than a dozen Egyptian hotels previously, I've seen some pretty dubiously star-rated places so having read one or two hit or miss reviews of the Renaissance I was a little wary. However, first impressions were great - the entrance, driveway and foyer are impressive and photographs don't do them justice.

Check-in was quick and easy but was then followed an over long and chaotic period waiting to be shown to our room. Once there, we were very pleasantly surprised as it was a generous size and recently painted in contemporary colours. The beds were super comfy and the bathroom had both a bath and walk in shower. There's also a reasonably priced mini bar and a nice sized balcony - ours had a stunning sea view despite being set close to the main building and pool (probably the best location we could have had as the rooms closer to the sea were quite a hike in the heat).

The location is perfect for a quiet getaway. It's close enough to Na'ama bay to jump into a cab if you want some night life. The hotel can call you a taxi or you can walk to the gate (2mins) and pick one up for 50LE (about £5). Don't be duped into paying more and always give the correct change or you won't see any back.

The hotel is laid out like a Spanish village down the hillside, with two storey villas and pools at various levels. It's a very attractive layout and despite the large size of the hotel you can always find some peace.

The pools (there are four) are lovely and all have bars close to them. There are always plenty of wooden loungers with pads and umbrellas.

The beach is layered along the width of the hotel, grouped around three small coves, one of which is home to the dive school and a pier which takes you out over the coral. The beach is a great location to chill out and find some peace along with a stunning view. There's also a bar where you can have cocktails delivered to your lounger.

Each of the bars apart from the Rotunda (which is a cocktail bar on the top level) also serves snacks. If you're all inclusive this means burger, chilli burger, pizza or chicken fingers and chips plus cakes, all edible and fine for lunch or afternoon tea.

Main meals are served in the Coast restaurant or you can choose the Chop Shop for Italian or Acapulco Joe's for Mexican. Again, if you're all-inclusive, Coast is included for main meals or you get a 100LE credit each at the others. This was great for the Mexican restaurant as the food was not only great and plentiful but cheap and you could easily get a meal for your dine around budget. The Italian was much pricier and you'd have to add 50LE just to get a main course. The buffet restaurant provided a great breakfast by Egyptian or international standards. Lunch was just right. Dinner comprised good quality food but was very limited and it was often difficult to assemble a meaningful meal.

Grab a 'do not disturb' card when sitting by the pool or on the beach as there are a number of touts out to get your business. We succumbed to the guy from the spa and ended up paying £160 for a 'cleopatra' treatment which while the first part was fine, when we arrived for the second part (having already paid) they had lost our booking and then fobbed us off.

All round, the hotel is lovely and we had a great week, however, there were a few issues which would put me off returning... The all inclusive system is farcical - you have to sign for everything (which soon gets tiresome) and you're never quite sure what's included and what you'll be charged for as the information leaflet is very vague. If a holiday hotel is going go offer all inclusive, it really does need to introduce a bracelet scheme - signing for everything just doesn't work.

The two bars by the main pool also ran a scam where they added drinks to your bill. At first we thought they were trying to rip us off but on checking our hotel bill, we realised they were just over-logging all inclusive drinks in order to scam their employers. When we politely queried one bill, it was aggressively ripped from us, confirming the scam. Which leads on to service generally - there were a few really great members of staff but on the whole, staff were unhelpful, very slow and even rude. I don't say that as an over-expectant European but as someone who has travelled extensively in the Middle East and knows what can and can't be expected. Most of the staff seemed deeply unhappy and resentful to be working in the hotel. This was particularly the case in the upper bars and buffet restaurant where we were generally ignored by staff, sometimes close to finishing our food before we were served drinks.

Finally, and this is the real deal-breaker, on more than one occasion I watched staff in the Rotunda bar rinsing dirty glasses in the sink (in what was clearly not even very hot water) and then giving them to new customers. This total lack of basic hygiene put me off drinking there and means I wouldn't stay at the hotel again - if this was a bar in the UK, I'd hope they would be shut down.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room and either seafront or close to the back depending on your preference

Arrived late evening on the 19th-June for 2 weeks stay for my partner and myself.
Received a good welcome on arrival, and we were upgraded to a family suite right in front of the pool near the Mexican themed restaurant.. Would have prefered a higher floor, avail of the ocean views, but this room was huge, and worked very well for us.

Food was very well presented and variety was pretty good most days, yes it gets repetitive, but we stayed 2 weeks, so that is expected.. Only 1 day fro dinner did we find the selection poor, and food not very well cooked... it was out last night, so might have been us :)

Service by all staff members I have to say was fantastic, everyone was so friendly and gracious, its only a simple thing to smile and say good morning etc, it makes the difference to both guest and staff... Mohammad in the Coast Restaurant, have to say, made every meal in there feel like we were the only guests, even though he was running around from table to table, drinks, waters etc were remembered, and ready for you when you came back to your table from the food counters, pleasant manner and friendly service, always putting the guest first.. thanks Mohammad.

Everything you need is on site, shop, several restaurants, some are themed and its not totally part of the AI, you get credit towards Lunch or Dinner, and if you go over, you pay the delta.. Was a little confusing when we first heard of it, Hotel should just remove that, and just do AI, it avoids the confusion, as most times they were empty as people didn't understand so everyone went to the Coast restaurant, and sometimes it was far too busy..

Prices are on the higher side in the on-site shop, compared to that of a small market about 5 mins walk outside the hotel, but if you dont want to leave its ok for your bits and bobs, but the Hotel should look at the prices, as doubt the make any money, anytime I went in there it was empty..

if you're staying in the Hotel in the evenings, not much to do really, entertainment is pretty poor, so will be early nights, or head to near by towns for shopping etc....

1 pool table in the bar, but it was like €5 for an hour..thats a lot, considering you could get lunch for that price, for 2 people.

All in all, I'd give the Holiday 8 out of 10.. 1-2 things I would change etc... but you can't have it all

There's a secure beach at the back of the Hotel, there's a jetty that protects the coral, fantastic snorkeling, and Hotel has on site dive center, they do beach dives off the same jetty, you have to snorkel or scuba in the red sea.. this is an experience that you can't leave without doing.. 10-10 for this... a must..

We'll be back next year for sure, lots more to do, so next year we'll return, as we loved the holiday, hotel, people etc... Special thanks to David and Liz, great couple we meet during our last few days, made the stay even more enjoyable..
Enjoy the remainder of the Holiday and safe home guys..

Room Tip: Depends on what you want, beach area means you need to walk up hill, or a lot of steps, but means aw...

Don't be put off by the unrest near Cairo, Sharm is well guarded and like an independent area totally safe and problem free. The Golden View is part of the Marriott chain so it has everything you would expect from a luxury hotel: excellent service, fabulous architecture, luxurious rooms and an unparalleled attention to detail and guest comfort. My husband and I went there for a well earned two week rest and we were enchanted by our stay. We only took the bed and breakfast option as we wanted to be free to explore restaurants in the area outside the hotel. Obviously if you want to make your stay even cheaper you can opt for the all inclusive formula which covers absolutely all your food and drink.
The hotel is well away from the hustle and bustle of down town Sharm so you will get peaceful nights but still be within easy taxi ride reach of all night fun a few kilometres away. The hotel has a variety of lovely pools descending in layers towards the sea and surrounded by the most beautiful flowered gardens. the sea is mostly coral reef and you can snorkel right off the floating pontoons that allow you to slide into clear water and watch the dazzling multi coloured fish. There are excursions to see more sea life but we found the marine variety just at the hotel extremely beautiful and very accessible. This is a jewel of a hotel and the staff ensure that your stay is an unforgettably pleasant experience.
Of course European and US tourism is low as the media relentlessly reports on the worst aspects of Egyptian unrest. This means that the fearless and fearful Russians dominate but the girls are pretty and although their alcohol consumption is astonishing, it never became a problem. This is a great place to unwind, soak up the reliable sunshine and enjoy the very best sort of relaxing holiday for any age group.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and get a sea view, it's worth it.

Where to begin.... from the moment of our arrival we were so well looked after a special thanks go to Imir on reception for our fantastic upgrade to the most beautiful and spacious suite. The view over the pool and the red sea was simply breath taking. Khaled the buggy man who took us to our rooms was fantastic he is a real asset to the hotel. We were so lucky to be placed by Acapolco Joes the staff were absolutely fantastic nothing was to much trouble Saad, Hamed, Michael, Amen Sherif the chief and all the team really made our stay so memorable. You simply cannot get a better evening meal food was fantastic as was the cocktails!! I personally am really missing my iced tea. A huge huge thank you to them all. We spend most of our time between there and the Aqua bar and again a huge huge thank you to the team of Khaled, Ahmed Kadry, Ahmed Saad, Ahmed Khalad, Omer and Islam and chief Mohamed. To anyone whose name we have not mentioned we do apologise. All we can say to anyone thinking of going to Sharm you will not get better than this hotel and you will certainly never ever meet better staff. We are already planning our next trip back.

This hotel was a luxury, bit of a walk down to the rooms but you can get a golf buggy.
Spectacularly designed and set in a quieter part of sharm, so you will need a cab into naama although you can just walk 5 mins down the road for some local shops and restaurants.
The hotel is in a good position for diving the reef and you can walk out on a pontoon to reach it.
There is also a great Mexican restaurant within the hotel and very good pools.
We would defiantly stay here again if we ever returned to Egypt which is unlikely.

Room Tip: A sea view room with a glimpse of Saudi in the distance

Location: Its between the old sharm city/market and the new one Marina (Ne'ma bay).
Physical Security are excellent.
Room Service & Facilities (Bed, Furniture and AC) are very good but needs some maintenance.
Pools are great and there is a kids club and kids sandy play area :)
Buffet @ the main Restaurant: Breakfast and Dinner are delicious.
Sea beach is not sandy, only Rocky edges so its good for snorkeling.

Finally the people there are so kind and helpful.
