“Nice Hotel, Bad Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Just returned from a ten night stay at Il Mercato. Lets start with the good points. Met some lovely folk, and was made very welcome. The staff are great whether that is front desk, waiters, cleaners, or animation. I could find little to say against them, my own cleaner for room 2241 was great, always a happy word, good service, and some amazing towel creations! The hotel looks good, with good clean pools, a good lobby, and pool bar, overall it is very presentable. My room in particular was very nice. Food, I would say was of the quality you would expect. If you are looking for "egg and chips" you best go back to Benidorm. Entertainment was as you would expect, the usual line up of quizes, comps, and of course Belly Dancing. Ok so thats the good points, on the negative I would say the location was poor, the immediate area was run down, with loads of rubbish, and half complete, and partially demolished buildings. My travel agency said the hotel had its beach, and it does, but not attached to the hotel, you go there by bus, one to be aware of. Would I go back? Probably not. Not because it was bad, but would like a better location. In particular loved the area around Soho sq.

Room Tip: area near lobby can be noisy, but only till about 2330hrs

We have just spent two weeks in this hotel(17-31 Jan)on half board basis as we like to try other restaurants&we do not drink a lot so didnt feel the need to go all inclusive. It was our first time to Egypt so not too sure what to expect. We were impressed with the entrance to the hotel, the reception area is lovely. We had booked a superior room,we were taken to first floor room 2221 which was large and impressive. Our balcony was overlooking the front of the hotel, which was ok but there wasnt a very good outlook across the road. The staff were very helpful and courteous, they went out of their way to make you feel welcome. We went to dinner in Giardino restaurant it is self service, not that we have a problem with that but we do like an option to be waited on.The food was ok,each evening there was a theme ie.Asian,Oriental,Italian but to be honest it was same old same old every night. My biggest gripe with these buffets is watching people pile their plates up then not eat most of what they have taken. There are also the people who fill their bags with food that would feed an army! The breakfast buffet was fine,we did enjoy this especially the freshly cooked eggs, omelettes etc.scrambled eggs were a bit watery. The beef bacon just doesnt work(I appreciate it is a Muslim country)One morning I saw some smoked salmon which a Russian lady was just piling on her plate,I told my husband as he likes it with scrambled eggs.By the time he walked to the counter the plate was empty,he asked the chef where it had all gone.He was greeted with a shrug. So unless you were quick off the mark you could miss out(I wont mention the Russians anymore)After a couple of evenings we decided to eat outside the hotel.Over the two weeks we tried all the restaurants within walking distance, the Chinese was good and reasonable.Onions was nice as was Charleston the Italian resaturant. The seafood restaurant was ok,the steak house across from hotel was fine.We also had an Egyptian meal in Soho square which was very good.
After a couple of nights we realised that our room was in a bad position for the noise reverberating from the reception area and the roof area where they also had entertainment. Then to top it off some guests who had overindulged on alcahol decided to run amok around the building. My husband went to reception and asked could we be moved,Susie in customer relations was very sympathetic to our request but couldnt do anything till the next day after new guests arrived. We were moved to a room overlooking the unheated pool,1127.It was smaller than our other room but so quiet it was wonderful. This made the rest of our stay much better. All in all I would say it is a good hotel for maybe a week, but we felt it was not somewhere we would like to come back to for two weeks. We visited Old Market, and Naama bay and used the hotel taxis which were very reasonable and the drivers most helpful.Sorry to go on so much but I felt it needed to be said.Applaud Hilal our room steward, and Susie customer relations.

Room Tip: do not go for promo rooms as they seem to be away from main building. If you want peace&quiet avo...

Just returned from a week at the Iberotel. It was a great week. The staff are fantastic in making you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble.
The room was lovely, quiet and clean ( I would suggest upgrading for that few extra pounds and try to get one near the main building as some hotel rooms were a long way from reception).
Food was quite good and had different themes every night of the week. We enjoyed the BBQ night best. But if you did fancy eating out for a change, I recommend 'Onions', very nice and very reasonable at £40 for a three course meal with wine (for two people).
Outside the hotel, its a short walk to a small shopping area so enough to get out for a little while if the weather wasn't too good for sunbathing.
If I had any critisms for the hotel it would be: 1) to put a kettle and tea/coffee facilities in the rooms 2) more waiting/serving staff would be better in the restaurant as they were so busy you didnt seem that much if you were down the end of the eating area. 3) the same entertainer was in the lobby bar four nights out of the seven. More variety please.
overall, pretty good for a bargain week and will probably return in the future.

we stayed here for xmas and found it a great value for money holiday. Normally we would go to the Caribean for xmas but found the cost was rising, so tried sharm for the first time.
Iberotel is not the caribean but is a much cheaper alternative with great weather at christmas, i would say it is a 4 star, the hotel its self in places is a little bit tierd but is kept verry clean.
food in the hotel was good but we got a little bit fed up eating in the same place everynight so started venturing out.
In the strip by the hotel are a few good eateries, we favoured onions the italian ran by Adam who we found very friendly and served great food which was very affordable
all the staff in the hotel were excellent and could not do enough for us. Mr azziz moved our rooms as requested no problem or fuss
The guys working the bars are so much fun and again nothing is any trouble for them, we had some great nights with Hanny Wali Akmed and Mohamed
The roof top pools were great for chilling out in the day and we were looked after by Ali and Super Mario, sun beds everyday same place no problem.
overall a great affordable holiday. staff and management are fantastic and we will be returning to this hotel

Let's get things into context here, a 5 star in Egypt / Turkey etc is a different prospect to The Savoy in London, however can you stay at The Savoy with all your meals and drinks paid for for £20 each a day....Let's be honest you can't get a decent B&B in Bognor for that can you????. Yes £20 each a day is all we paid for this lovely hotel. Yes if you are nit picking there are a few little things that can be better but staff very good, nothing too much trouble, rooms spacious and clean, tv in room caters for all the nationalities that go there. Food was very good you would really need to be extremely fussy not to find something at each meal time (always something cooked plainly if you didn't want to be more adventurous!!). Plenty of room to sit on the roof no scramble for sun beds. So look if you want a more than decent hotel, good food and drink, excellent polite service, in a lovely location for 20 quid each a day, you will not find better than this anywhere (even Bognor).. Just go there, chill out, not worry about a bit of dust or a little chip in the furniture, relax, and bloody enjoy yourselves!!!!

Stayed here Jan 15 to 29. We convey our thanks to Susie (Guest Relations Rep) for her help, and the staff in general who really do try to do their best for every guest. We would particularly compliment Sameh, Ehab and Beshoy who worked in the restaurant. The room we had was spacious, well equipped and clean. We did comment on the shower performance where the pressure and temperature was very inconsistent. Parents of young children should take note as sometimes the water became very hot. Once a week a survey is taken of visitor comments, and many guests complained about their showers; housekeeping staff ask on the following day if there has been any improvement and it's very easy to say a hopeful 'yes' - but in reality the inconsistencies continue.
We had no problems with food quality, quantity or variety. Good efforts are made here by all involved. Breakfasts, however, (unless taken early) are chaotic. The major problem for us was the unreliability of the coffee machines. On two consecutive mornings we, and many others, went without coffe due to machine malfunctions, and the separate urn also ran out of water.
On balance we would recommend this hotel to friends, and will consider it for future visits to Sharm el Sheik.

Room Tip: Our room in the main building was in the 2201 to 2210 group and was fine, but the balcony had no sun...

We stayed from 17th Jan-24th Jan 2013...
On arrival there were a fleet of statt waiting and ready to take our suitcases of the coach, we checked in very quickly and had our cases taken to our room ( 2109 ) . The room was lovely and spacious, immaculately clean and had a small balcony facing outwards to the front of the hotel, situated just behind reception we never had any issues atall.
Room service was fabulous at all times, whether you rang reception for milk or needed more of anything it was always dealt with very quickly.
Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff whatsoever, they are all very polite, pleasant and more than eager to please.
The food is superb and caters for even people like me who are very fussy eaters and I never once went hungry.Massive selection of food for all. Breakfast time has a fab little section for omelletes to fried or poached eggs all cooked fresh as you wait .
Dining staff could not be more attentive if they tried !!!!
Reception staff were brilliant and never faulted in a single thing, being British we asked for a kettle in our room and within 5 minutes it arrived !!!
Upstairs the pool areas were again superb and cannot be faulted, the towel boy was on the ball and Ali was again so involved with everyone it made a fabulous touch and made you more than at ease.. Danny the newspaper guy also desrves a mention as he again was lovely and went out of his way to get whatever you asked him for.. We sat at the pool to the left of the lifts ( quiet pool ) and found our stay very relaxing and peaceful..Pool to the left of lift is the pool where you can play games and listen to music all day again a fab pool.. The quiet pool is not heated but the other one is..
Entertainment is on the roof and also in the Foyer....most of the entertainment in the foyer is musicians who were fabulous, however we felt that there needed to be some of the dancers, bingo and karaoke down there aswell, as on the roof everybody was badly bitten by the dreaded mozzies !!!! So we actually didnt see anything entertainment wise except the musicians downstairs in the Foyer. There was no vodka available for the first three days of our stay much to my dissappointment, I am not a big drinker atall but all I do drink is vodka, didnt really worry me but as an AI hotel it should have been available.
Sadly on our 3rd night we received a phone call from home to be told my father had passed away xxxxxxxx R.I.P. DAD xxxxxxxxx When the hotel staff found out the next day I have to say they really were marvellous, they did more than they possibly could to help us out with everything, we were given a free late check out on our day of departure,,( we could not get home due to the airports being closed in the UK from the snow !! )
Susie in the customer relations ( british through and through! ) what a fantastic job she does, she makes time to come and see every guest and find out if they need anything. Any problems go and find her, nothing is too much trouble for atall..THANKS SUSIE :)
We will definately return to this fabulous hotel 5***** in all aspects...
Thank-you for looking after us and we will certainly be returning !!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room behind reception :)
