“Attentive, friendly staff at a fun and well situated hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

My girlfriend and I have just returned from our holiday and I couldn't get on here quick enough to say how much we enjoyed our stay at the Coral Sea Resort.
The hotel itself has a gorgeous garden and pool area with great outdoor facilities including it's own beautiful sandy beach [we had 35 - 38 degree heat in early March, the sea was warm and the fish come right up to the shore!] The room itself was clean though a little basic - the main difference between this hotel and five star hotels we have stayed in, though the wonderful little surprises we found made up for this in abundance - creative towel characters and a birthday cake for my girlfriend who was celebrating her 30th! Assuming you won't be spending too much time in the room itself, this shouldn't be too much of a concern given the value you get elsewhere by staying here. For starters, the level of courtesy, friendliness and the immediacy of a genuine welcome that was extended to us by all hotel employees; whether bar staff, reception staff, security, cleaners, the brilliant animation team and the incredibly knowledgeable reps, far exceeded our expectations. A smile and a 'hello' is worth a thousand in Egypt and if you are friendly you will be made to feel like royalty. The [Thomsons] reps' expert advice really helped us to get the most out of our excursions [MUST do snorkelling and quad biking trips here] and provided excellent advice on how to handle shop vendors who in some parts of Sharm can be quite persistent, though they are well briefed local to the hotel that a 'no hassle' approach works well and is appreciated by us Brits :)
I was personally sceptical of going all-inclusive and this was our first time, as I always thought it would be quite restrictive [I like to find nice little local restaurants out and about], but I would recommend it here, as the food was excellent, provided a great deal of variety, and importantly is prepared under a controlled testing environment, meaning you are very unlikely to get ill - a common concern for travellers to Egypt. We had no problems at all in terms of stomach cramps or sickness and ate [and drunk] incredibly well all week!
Finally, hats off to the 'animators', who never failed to put a smile on our faces. Sure, the shows are a bit naff, but are enjoyable in the same way as a children's nativity and if you have made the same effort with them as they have with you, you should get a real kick out of watching your new mates drop their ego's and do their best to keep you entertained.
If you like people, sunshine, good food and nice hotels by the beach - this resort is for you.

Just back from this hotel & everything we expected from the reviews on trip advisor! From the short ten min journey to the hotel from the airport, this resort is excellent! Staff are extremely helpful, the animation team work very hard to please both day & night! The rooms are large and very clean, only fault is the hair dryers ! Take your own, there very old and take ages to dry your hair ! Food was very good , wide choice of everything & also theme nights ie- they have a British night, Italian night etc! Plenty of food all day long! Two lovely pools & a mixed age group! Evening entertainment could have perhaps been a little better but on the whole this hotel is a must for families, couples & young ones ! A huge Thanx to the animation team for making this a lovely week for us xx Donna & Brian, hope to see you all soon xxx Many Thanx x

There is a reason that there is so many plaques on the trees from repeat guests and it is due to the staff! this is by far one of the most friendly hotels I've been to and we were really made to feel like part of the family.
We had a new-ish room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool area, good size, big comfy bed and cleaned everyday by our cleaner Ahmed. The rooms themselves are being updated for summer and they really do need it as starting to look a bit tired and dated. Food was good with a different theme night every night in the main restaurant and the two al la cartes were lovely - indian and itallian.
A special mention to Julie the guest relations who is in the hotel practically everyday and always stopped for a chat when passing to check everything was ok.
One thing that needs to be improved in this hotel (which it seems most of the reviews on here disagree) is the animation team. They are lovely people but have no talent and are certainly not what I expect of an entertainment team. Daytime - brilliant, quizzes, water polo but evening time is dire with Kareoke being one of the best nights... now that is saying something.
Very excited with the new aqua park being built and new rooms, looking forward to returning.

We booked our 3rd visit very last minute and very a little worried about the building work etc however glad we went back as this hotel is still unbeatable for service, location and food.

I think because we did book late we were actually given a Jacuzzi Room rather than a standard room (possibly because of the amount of rooms currently being renovated)? The room was huge with a balcony and directly over looking the beach, with an additional jacuzzi bath tub in the bathoom (a bit novel but we gave it a go one, very nice treat!). These particular rooms had not yet been renovated but were still very comfortable with a huge bed, desk, chair, armchair, extra table, mini fridge (Which asked to have emptied which was done promptly to allow room for our bottled water), coffee/tea facilities and a large wardrobe.

The first 2 days were very very windy which kept us awake quiet a lot at night (downside of a room facing directly towards the sea) and also meant the stayed around the pool area rather that then beach, our preferred spot. There is 2 pool, one large which is cold and one smaller which is heated in winter. Due to this the majority of guests and activities are happening there. However as we prefer it a little quieter we stuck around the big pool. And yes, it is freezing but once you get used to it you have a huge pool to enjoy almost all by yourself ;)

The first few days after you arrive you will be approached by the Spa, Beauty and Aquarius Staff trying to sell you massages, treatments, excursions etc. These guys are very nice and charming but if you are not interested it can be a bit frustrating to get this across. However we did have a massage at the spa (after we agreed a very good price I must say!) which was very good.

And if you do plan to do an excursion I highly recommend the Aquarius guys as they are superb and the prices are better than First Choices. We went on a speed boat / snorkelling trip which was amazing. You're only on the boat for 2 hours but the groups are limited to about 6-7 which means you get a very personal experience when out on the 2 snorkelling stops and of course what's more fun then a speed boat!! We even saw a Dolphin, just wow!

We also booked a last minute excursion with First Choice to go on the Submarine to see yet more fish which I can also highly recommend.

Now to get to one of my favourite parts of this hotel: The food. I know some people complain about this but I have no idea why because I certainly always enjoyed this very much.

Breakfast is probably the only "samey" buffet option but there was certainly plenty of options: Omelettes and fried eggs freshly cooked to order, all the usual full english options (pork substitures mind), croissants, breads, cakes, cereals, fruits, yogurts etc. Our favourites were the donuts - just yummy!

For lunch you have 2 options, either the set menu at the Mermaid Cafe or buffet at the main restuarant. The set menu at the Mermaid Cafe is very limited: Fish & Chips, Burgers, Pizzas, Grilled Chicken etc however what we had there was delicious and it certainly makes a difference from the buffet option which is very just scaled down version of the dinner buffet.

The dinner buffet is themed every night however these can be very loosely based. I recall one being "candle light" which just meant there was a candle on your table, however there was a candle on the table every night...but who wants to argue about that ;) The food itself consists of some items that are there every night: salads, chips, vegetables, breads, potatos, steamed fish, pasta etc and then the addition of extra items that would vary. There would always be one main meat or fish freashly carved in addition to all sorts of other dishes (too many to recall to be honest).

And of course how could I not mention the desserts. These are visual master pieces. The majority consisted of cakes, tarts, jellies etc. However my personal favourite: the crumbles. They looked odd but my god they were yummy! I highly recommend the pumkin crumble ;)

We also visited the Indian Restaurant one night which was included in the AI package (food only!) which was very nice and again a nice change from the buffet option. We did not try the Italian this time but have been on the previous visit which was also very good.

But that's enough of the food before I get carried away and to also make a mention of the drink: Bottled water is available at lunch and dinner to take away and use as needed. Hence why getting the mini fridge emptied is recommended. Alcohol is local and of varying strength. My boyfriend had serious doubts if there was any alcohol in the beer at all however I can vouch for the wine, whisky and vodka being drinkable ;) Coffee and tea is also available.

The entertaining is probably the only downfall to this hotel. There is a singer and a guitarist that occasionally provide entertainment in the lobby which is very nice and enjoyable. However the majority of the evening entertainment is based on the First Choice Animation team, for example: "Animation Dance", Bingo, Karaoke, Mr and Mrs Coral Sea, Comedy, which take place in the least Irish Bar imaginable. We did not attend any of those and the one we did actually wanted to see, "Danger Man", sadly did not turn up.

However we were happy to play cards, go for walks on the promenade or just take some drinks back to the room and watch some movies on various channels of which a large amount amazingly were all very recent and in English!

The few shops in the hotel are very good if you are looking for some souvenirs, clothes, snorkelling gear, snacks, toiletries etc. at good prices with no hassle. You can haggle but prices are very low anyways so we often didn't need to.

Outside the hotel you would find a variety of shops (expect to be asked to enter every single one as you pass. A "No Thanks" will do.) and bars and also the Metro supermarket with fixed prices. We visited the newly opened Hard Rock Cafe which was very impressive and prices reasonable for a big chain Restaurant. We also visited the "Bus Stop" bar right outside the Coral Sea for the football one night and also to make use of the wifi which I highly recommend for price and service.

Ok, what else...oh yes the beach. Still as amazing as always. The water was warmer then the pools and the fish still as beautiful as always. The water is very shallow very far out depending on the tide however there is a Jetty to make access to the deeper waters easier. The atmosphere is definitely a lot more laid back on the beach compared to the pool and we love it!

There is probably a million other things I can say about why we love this place but I'd be here forever. If anyone has any questions however feel free to contact me and I will try to help :) So please everyone visit this fantastic hotel and experience it for yourself but be reminded that is not UK 5* hotel and that the renovation works are ongoing and probably will do for some time but the staff will do everything they can to make it an unforgettable stay for you.

We've been here 5 times and know people who have been here 20+ times so that in itself speaks volumes as far as I am concerned.

The service from the staff is second to none. The entertainment team works tirelessly & the weather is faultless. The diving is fantastic. We can't wait to go back. We've made some wonderful friends at the CSR both staff members & guests whom we've kept in touch with.

We can't wait to go back! :)

On arrival you are treated very ell, your cases are looked after for you whilst you book in, the they are carried to your room for you, which is great.
Was very pleased with the size of the room, it had lots of space and a very large balcony with a small table and chairs. It was all very clean and i was made to feel welcome. The beds were very comfortable, we had a twin room and the beds are bigger than a 3ft single more like 4ft, slept very well.
The layout of the hotel was nice , you couldn't get lost, there are 2 pools we stayed mainly at the quiet pool rather the one with the music, you could still hear it but for me it wasn't a problem, the pool was very clean and the pool guy was very helpful with helping with pool towels and for a little tip he saved us the same beds, whether he would when its really busy i don't know.
The beach was very clean and again you were well looked after. There is a bar and a toilet near by. There is also another restaurant near the beach which you can eat in door or out.
There is the main food hall where you can eat, the food was perfectly edible i had no complaints at all. There are 2 al a Carte restaurant's, Italian and Indian, you do have to pay for you drinks in these though, which i do feel if your all inclusive then these should be included although the wine is of a better quality.
The only thing i wish i didn't do whilst there is the manicure and pedicure, if i was having it done at home i would have walked out, it cost £40, you were sat on a couch, not a comfy one either, no refreshment was offered, they used foot spa bowl things to soak your feet in COLD water. They were rough in how the rubbed your feet and filed them. The colours were not extensive and the one i chose ran out so i didn't get a second coat on my toes. I didn't find it an enjoyable experience and am glad i didn't go for a facial!!!!!, a total waste of money, also my friend had it done and she made her foot bleed, not professional at all.
The entertainment was good they were entertaining and did a good job.
Would definately return but they are building a water park to the side of the hotel, i would hope this doesn't mean there would be lots of children running around, we picked this hotel hoping for there not to be too many and there wasn't.

Just returned from another great week at coral sea resort. Yes they are in the process of upgrading and extending the hotel. It is a bit tried and really needs it. We were in a room where the works were being carried out above and below us didn't cause us a problem. It is certainly not the fault of the hotl management or any of the staff. First choice took our money and had every opportunity to tell us there might have been some disturbances.

Anyway we had a great time room was very comfortable, room man cleaned the room changed towels every day couldn't fault it. There was plenty of choice in the restaurant even the fussiest of eaters will find something to eat.

The animation team work tirelessly during the day, Richard, louigi and joe deserve a special mention. The whole team work hard at getting everyone involved. Evening entertainment is not terribly good one evening the act simply didn't turn up but the animation team stepped in and did their best to keep everyone going.

All in all a great holiday and we will deffinately be back.
