RGS is a 5 star hotel set off the main road with it's own private beach. Stayed for a week all inclusive first week in Feb. 6 days of blue skies , 1 slightly cloudy day and a couple of days were quite breezy. The temps were in the mid 20's all week and the sea temp was ok for gentle snorkelling despite my concerns at going at this time of year.
Room; I was in a block to the side with a back view over the tennis courts and a balcony view over the sea - best view from the hotel and offered unbroken views of the town , the bay and Tiran Island as we were on the top floor (2nd floor). Room was huge with two double beds - tv , hairdryer in the bathroom and large sliding patio doors to a large balcony with table and chairs - the sun rose over the sea and straight onto our balcony - superb! The baggage was lugged upstairs by the bellboy as there were no lifts so consider this if you struggle with stairs . (The main building had lifts to all 6 levels though.) the tv wasn't great - yes it was modern flat screen but only really had BBC World news and CNN. Despite this it was enough to know what was going on in the world and keep an eye on the weather. The bathroom was also huge with a large sink and mirror - separate shaving mirror and a power point for razors etc. Toilet bidet and large walk in shower but no bath. I wouldn't have used a bath in any case. The shower had a removable head and was powerful and always had hot water . If you were fussy , yes the grouting needed sprucing up and the paintwork needed livening up but I had paid less £274 all inclusive for 7 days - yes that was £137 each - so less than £20 per day via travel republic! ( if you use them our room was a superior double with pool/ garden view.) Our room was cleaned meticulously everyday and new towels available if required every day. We also returned each day to a new towel design decorated with flowers . The room had an air conditioning unit with all the normal controls but as it ranged from 15 to 18c at night I didn't use it.
Food & drink; Grest selection of hot and cold food and drink on tap all day! If you want your finest blended 15 yr old single malt, captain Morgans rum or your normal selection of home branded beer and wine you pay extra. I found it quite nice sampling the various drinks on offer and didn't spend a penny at the bar. There was food and drink available from a variety if locations during the day so you were never far from one - even the beach bar did snacks in the afternoon . I never queued for long but ice creams and large bottles of water were available without this - you simply helped yourself from the fridge or freezers! Breakfast lunch and dinner were all buffet style eat as much as you like affairs with a wide selection of foods available . I avoided salads as they are washed in tap water and also had no icein drinks and had no tummy troubles . They even made you fresh omelletes, pizzas , wraps and a selection of barbecued meats as you watched. There wad a separate indoor a la carte restaurant if you wanted to be seated and waited on - I never used it as the food on offer at the buffet was superb. Finally you can eat right on the edge of the top floor overlooking the pools and the sea - magnificent views !
Staff were ultra helpful- information on trips plentiful and an excellent taxi service offered from the lobby area - I used them as the drivers were excellent and their rates cheap - cars were clean and modern. I avoided the blue & White cabs - unprofessional and dangerous drivers use them at your peril!
Good selection of activities with a beauty salon table tennis, snooker/ pool room and a daily list of other activities posted daily. The evening entertainment was questionable but was pleasant background noise! The diving centre was at the jetty and offered free use of mask snorkel and flippers for a returnable deposit. I'm not much into snorkelling but I went off the long jetty 3 times in the week. The fish and corals are truly spectacular.
On arrival you are given credit card type vouchers for beach towels -exchange these everyday for fresh towels for use on the poolside and beach loungers at no extra cost - a vast array of pool or beach beds most with sun shades and cushions etc.
The hotel is full of Russians - if you can put up with them occasionally pushing in, ordering their drinks from 5 places back, abusing the hard working staff and being very loud, I did, then you'll have a great time.
You had to pay 25 Egyptian pounds for 30 minutes wifi or 45 for an hour and only accessible from the lobby area - shame as you'd expect it to be free at a 5 star hotel.
All in all a very good hotel taking all into consideration - I would go back there and I recommend you try it too.
