“simply wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Just back from 2 weeks at the Grand Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh Egypt. Now I am not one for writing reviews and you can read most of the details about this wonderful hotel from all the other detailed reviews before me but I have to write this review to tell people that I have travelled all over the world and stayed at some very expensive hotels and have never experienced such fantastic service.
From our arrival to our departure nothing was too much trouble and we were looked after like royalty. I have to give most of the credit to the wonderful Miss Dee (Duty Manager) who organised everything from a change of room for us on arrival down to a sewing kit within minutes at 10 o'clock at night when my wife popped a button on her blouse!!! Dee you are a star and you made our holiday vey very special and we can't thank you enough.
This is a wonderful hotel at a great price. Its not brand new or flashy but its a huge hotel with everything you could wish for and in my opinion unbeatable.

Had such a good holiday, the staff couldn't do enough for you! The food in the restaurant was average but the Ali Carte meals were delicious apart from the cliff restaurant. The animation team made my holiday a whole lot better and were up for a laugh, all of them were great!

We are a family of three. Our son is 12 and we were a little apprehensive about going because of all the media hype, we shouldn't have worried at all. The flight was good if a little cramped for leg room. We arrived and were picked up by our rep from Red Sea Holidays. Coach to the hotel was air conditioned if a little scruffy. The journey to the hotel was a little scary only because there is a lot of litter and rubble everywhere. When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted and sat down to fill in our registration paper. Shown to a clean, cool room which already had clean towels and toiletries ready for us to use as well as Cold Water supplied. The buffet restaurant was good, we ate there 3 times, enough choice for all of us to eat (my son is a faddy eater and even he found something to eat every day and evening) the waiting staff in the Sharme restaurant couldn't have been kinder or more attentive, Thank you to Ahmed especially as he kept us supplied with drinks, x thank you also to the bar staff in the main hotel bar (Hamada, Ali Aboud) and to Hosney in the Reef Lobby who was the best cocktail maker in the whole complex. All the staff at all the bars and restaurants we ate and drank at were very attentive to our every need and we never felt we were putting anyone out at any time. The Fusion restaurant was amazing and although the portions looked small we all came out feeling satisfied. The Coral reef was memorable with shoals of beautiful fish swimming all around us as we snorkelled. It was good that we could hire mask, flippers and snorkel at £6.00 a day, or you could buy them from the local shops for next to nothing. We did invest in an inflatable bed for the pools which I think is a must. We did the Bedouin nights excursion and it was a memorable time especially the star gazing with an astronomer explaining the stars to us and then looking through telescopes and seeing Saturn. We went all inclusive and although we thought it was a little expensive at the time we really were looked after very well and we think we had our monies worth.
Tips for would be travellers; tip a waiter 20 Egyptian pounds (£2) if you are going to stay by the same pool or at the beach, we never had to move as the waiter would automatically replenish our drinks for us and would even bring us ice creams, waffles, crepes or anything else we asked for ( it's like being a celeb!) it wasn't what I would call 5 star maybe 3-4 but it was very clean well presented and the food and drink were good. As a family I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to relax by a pool and be pampered and looked after, there were a lot of extra things we could have done had we wanted to and it wasn't,t overly expensive, we realise it was only 40% capacity due to the media hype and we are glad because it meant we had the attention of the staff without having to wait for anything. The bars all had something different to offer in the way of food from pizza, sea food, burgers, salads, crepes, and ice cream on tap. What a lovely holiday we would definitely return.

Room Tip: There are a lot of stairs at the resort as it is on levels. We stayed in a junior suite in block 4 w...

Having arrived at hotel the facade of it looked lovely ,walking into lobby ,it was still ok ,check in no problems,Next taken to our room, we walked through a concrete city of apartment blocks all downhill to our block, when we opened the door and surveyed our surroundings I Could of cried ,the room was so tired and rundown, toilet leaking ,shower head and enclosure filthy, telly not working,we went back to reception Uphill climb,to ask for a change of room and fairplay it was done within the hour, our next room was a bit better but still tired ,the headboard was placed into the wall and poorly fitted lots of broken plaster surrounding it and something that looked like blood smeared along the plaster, the balcony area needed tending too the tiles were botched at being put back in,all of the units were even damaged or stained, we had to hire a kettle for tea n coffee which for a five star is unbelievable, the pool areas were fine except for the fact the parasols must be the original ones from when they first opened as they were so thread bare n full of holes it was pointless having them up and what really made me laugh was they were still putting the covers on them at night, the buffet restaurant, waiters brilliant, but cigarette burns on table cloths ,wobbly tables not a good example, then we have the lobby bar, torn upholstery on settees a big let down, dwn in the reef bar ,settees with the cushions hanging out, glass tables with broken glass jagged edges and glasses with chunks missing out the bases,When you asked for bottles of water at the Terrace Bar and the Crepe Bar they vere begrudging in giving it, the boys around the pool were attentive but not regular sometimes having to wait for over a hour for a drink,we were advised not to approach bars as they dnt like it ,so we waited, on the upside our waiter at breakfast and lunch was amazing, even made us special lime tea for our dodgy tummy which occurred from having a cold dinner at the olive restaurant ,The jetty was brill for snorkelling, the complex could be so much better but I can only say as we found it, we could have continued to change rooms but as we were only there for a week i was not prepared to be traipsing all over and up n dwn the many steps and steep road to find a room that was not ailing ,I would also like to say this is not a hotel it is a complex of apartment blocks which has a separate reception and lobby area with a few bars before it expands to the pool areas and other bars etc,I know it has come over as mainly negative but I feel my comments are warranted having actually stayed in a proper 5 star in SAHL HASSEESH last year The Grand Hotel I cannot call it. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR ROOM CLEANER IN BLOCK 4 HE WAS SO UTTERLY AMAZING ,FRIENDLY, COMPETENT AND ATTENTIVE THANK YOU !!!!!! and thanks to Ga ry n Sam for your company n insect repellent .

We have haven't missed a summer vacation for over 20yrs. We have stayed at hotels all around the world. This hotel for the first time as left an ever lasting memory. Even more we will stay there again on our next vist to Sharm.
On arrival....... we were great by managers and drinks, checkin was completed at the bar. Keys and paperwork was alll ready waiting completed. What a fantastic way to welcome new guest. The management are very friendly and professional.
The hotel...... layout is very nice. There are quiet areas and not so as as well. The restaurants are very clean and well presented. During your stay you will see a lovely lady called Dee who will put alot confidence in what you about to eat because her role there is food and hygiene and patrols all the restaurants all day checking food temperature and hygiene. The gourmet restaurants are fantastic. You can choose a different one everyday. Reef bar is cool for chill out evenings. The bar staff automatically bring your next drink. Now that's service...Rooms are nice and AC'd and cleaned with pride by a friendly cleaner.
The staff....always smiling and ready to assist. I would say if you don't ask you'll never get so don't be shy, we came across a lot of guest who had something to whinge about but not willing to speak to management or customer relations. We did.......and that is why our vacation became the most memorable ever. Manager Mike and a beautiful coustomer relations lady called Sam took control of a couple of small dietary issues we had on the first day and suddenly things changed drastically. The entire hotel warmed to us and knew where we were every minute, ready to serve and assist. We felt like VIP's for 2 weeks. Sam we all miss you.....can't wait to see you again....btw...Sam likes to be pushed into the pool.
The entertainment.....what brilliant bunch..made us laugh so much and even spent their time off with guest. Lots pool entertainment everyday and they'll even take you late night clubbing...fantastic
Location is good and tourist areas are cheap to get to. Use the hotel cars to get around to places like Namabay, the old town and Soho square is also worth checking out on evening visits.
Will we go to this hotel again....he'll yes. a beautiful hotel full of beans.. If you want 5 star snobby pomp then this is not for you.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a superior room. We will next time. Standard rooms are very basic.

Could be an amazing place, if the rough edges were smoothed. By this the standards of the rooms, our shower was poor. Water was not replenished. No tea and coffee. Lots of food choices. The staff were super friendly and shared useful information.
