We arrived at 11pm and were told that there was a problem with the air conditioning in our room, so they were preparing another room. Waiting in the reception area for over 40 minutes without the offer of a drink wasn't very hospitable, particularly after such a long day travelling. The room we were finally shown to was absolutely awful, more akin to a broom cupboard. The bed and the wardrobe were about the only things in the room. The curtains were missing a few connections at the end and hung half down and the net curtains had seen better days. As it was so late and we were so exhausted we accepted our lot and lay down our heads. The next day we found out others that had booked with the same tour operator (Tony Backhurst) had a magnificent room, and so we asked to be moved and were moved the day after. The new room was twice the size and had a mini fridge that was warmer than the room and a hair dryer. In the 12 nights we were there we didn't have a single hot shower, but we assumed that it was because we were showering at peak times. The bed was comfortable - the replacement room was a twin, but after we pushed the beds together on the first night they made the bed up as a king, with one set of sheets top and bottom. You couldn't fault the cleanliness, but the decor, like most things in Sharm, was lacking in the finer detail. For example, not one single bathroom fixture was fitted straight, the curtains were not hung correctly, the tiling was badly laid, the chairs were falling apart, etc. etc. There was no private safe, but there were safety deposit boxes in reception at no charge.
The hotel breakfast was adequate, particularly if you are a carbohydrate junkie - all types of bread, rolls and pastries, but not delicate, more like bricks that helped weigh you down later when you were diving. They cooked eggs to order. Coffee and tea were stewed on the hotplates, juice was diluted powder and dispensed from massive coolers. We ordered jumbo shrimp from the pool bar and it was sent back immediately as it was so old it was rotten.
The pool was very nice, but was partly cordoned off for the divers. Depending on what side you were on, it was irritating. Doing our divemaster course, we were put on rope patrol from time to time, kicking kids off the rope and shooing them out of the diving section. We also had a near miss as one young lad lobbed a 2kg weight from the side into the pool for retrieval practice. We were constantly doing battle with the Egyptian kids in the pool. They also had the loudest screams that could curdle milk. Not that relaxing if you were sunbathing around the pool.
The roof top bar was on the bar crawl for the 18-30s type holiday schedule, so we watched in amazement as young nubile girls in towering pole dancing shoes walked up the hill for their drink as much as you can type night out. The music from the top was that monotinous thump, thump, thump that went on til midnight or 1am, but luckily we couldn't really hear it from our room, but I would have been mad if I had been on the other side of the hotel.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful, although one of the security guards on the front gate was a bit narky, growling "Room number?" at you when you returned to the hotel. One guest lost it in reception when his water was confiscated by security on his way in. I could entirely see his point (although I don't know how much he was trying to bring in). We always came back drinking from a 1.5 litre bottle and were never challenged, but I did hear that they would confiscate any drink and food that you tried to bring back. I think it is totally unacceptable to confiscate water. A bottle was being sold for 10LE in the hotel when you could buy it 100 metres away at the supermarket for 2.5LE. There was no complimentary water in any part of the hotel. That is not acceptable in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees. Even a water fountain in reception would have been welcome.
You could get free internet access on your laptop in the reception area but not elsewhere. You had to be careful to choose the right network, as there is also one that you pay for.
There's an ATM in reception. Laundry prices are very cheap - 4LE for a shirt or trousers.
Sharm is incredibly expensive. Restaurants are European prices, which is why there are so many AI deals. I wouldn't recommend AI at this resort.
Overall, I would say it's a no frills, comfortable, clean hotel with decent staff.
