“The Five Star Animation Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We visited Tropicana sea beach resort for 2 weeks with our disabled son and young daughter, the Animation staff were out of this world including the children in all activities, going out of there way to ensure that activities were suitable for Dominics difficulties, Beth Cockle was exceptional and built up a fantastic raport with both children and we were more than happy leaving them in her care whilst we had a few hours relaxation.

In an evening the family entertainment was great, Kimo who was lead animated was so enthusiatic with all activities and ensured the children were entertained, there were different themed nites and kiddies discos.

Kimo was great through the days ensure any sports the children wished to be involved with were made suitable for them and our sons disabilities, and the aerobics lessons were just like a show. Fantastic

Dear Lesley

Thank you very much for your nice comment on Trip Advisor.
I am delighted that you and your family had a lovely holiday with us all. It is very nice to read that the animation team looked after you and ensured that your children were entertained and happy. In the hotel we strongly believe if the children are happy on there holiday then there parents can relax and enjoy themselves as well.
I will pass your lovely comments on to the people you have mentioned and I do hope to welcome you back to the hotel one day in the near future

Best regards

travelled june 7th 2013, definately was not expecting the heat although i cant complain....hotel was good, checked in quick and early evening, shown to our room, bags were taken for us which i always like, not so much when they hold their hand out for the tip though, even though i had every intention of tipping its rude to beg/wait for it! definately always carry some small notes on your first few days, for tipping, its important here and will determine how you are treated i found, look after the pool boys, get a good sun lounger early on the first day, tip well and expect the same spot every day, getting up late can be difficult to get a lounger or a spot but again grab a guy and he will find you one! food was ok, i always had something to eat, the missus was more fussy, always some meat an pasta an chips, usually some fish too, usuall salads and cakes, breakfast not as good but again always eggs toast beans etc! go for the italian restaurant in the morning for brekky and lunch as this is only for enlgish people......go to the seahorse late for any of them and fight the foreigners in the queues, be prepared to wait and get pushed in front of constantly....staff always favour the arabs/egytians here, english come second, but it was ok you get used to it!

Nemo (woot woot) or Kemo whatever his name was is a lovely guy, very entertaining and the evening shows themselves were ok but very basic, day time activities basic also, darts, water aerobics etc, Emma the english girl was great, very helpful and lovely, easy on the eyes too which is nice ;) Waleed the first choice rep was great also, helpful and genuine!

rooms were good, we requested a double bed instead of twin which we booked, sea view and a high floor, there are only three and was in the middle with an awesome view, very pleased with this (2257) beach was ok, man made i think but very nice being private, always space and the water was unbelievable.....crystal clear and boiling hot, like a bath almost, we bought some water shoes and a snorkel and walked right out to the ship wreck in the sea, can go on the pontoon but sea more in the water, watch out for the snakes and big black urchins though, the dont hurt you but im sure im you step on one it maye be different! amazing fish and coral so grab a camera......once you get to the wreck the water changed from knee length for almost a mile to bottomless, we saw some crazy creatures out there so decided to walk back! be warned, there are no life guards or nothing out there.....your on your own, go with someone or when others are over there!

sun was immense, too hot to handle but nice with the breeze! roomsa cleaned daily, water not so much but is ok if you ask, again tip well, we got some amazing towel creations left for us! every one is mohammed so names are difficult but staff were all generalaly great!

local market/shops outside the hotell are ok, the few immediately outside the gate are great for bags, watched etc over the road theres more but be prepared to be hassled, they are a fu**ing nightmare! pushy, rude and clearly dont liek the english except for their money, we bought some bits but this put me of shopping, bit further down at the hard rock cafe and TGI fridays was nice, great for a cocktail! didnt travel any further or do any excursions etc.....

met some lovely people, water park was awesome, very quiet too no pushing or queing just on an off an on again whenever you like, loads of rides and lazy river was nice too.....definately go!

all in all a lovely hotel and greatt holiday, manager was also there when we checked out which was nice, very pleased and happy!

thank you tropicana sea beach........
QUESTIONS WELCOME

:)

Room Tip: 2257, request a high floor, double bed and sea view, we were lucky to get all three! Tip well, ever...

Dear Aaron,

Thank for your very kind review.

Your business and holiday with us is very much appreciated and the staff would be delighted to see you again considering the nice comments that have been noted.

I have to agree to dis-agree with you though regarding your comment "staff always favour the arabs/egytians here, english come second" as this is not the case I can assure you and we are very active in providing our UK based guests with areas of additional services and eating spaces exclusively for them.

However the General Manager Mr. Ehab Samir and his Assistant Mr. Karim will ensure that your kind comments are passed directly onto the staff you have mentioned for making your stay so enjoyable. And we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to the the Sea Beach Hotel and Aqua Park very soon.

Kind regards

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We've just returned from a weeks stay at the Tropicana after booking a last minute holiday through First Choice.
Upon arrival at the hotel, check in was slow - over an hour with a tired 3 year old was not a great start. We had booked and paid extra for a family room. I'd emailed ahead and requested a ground floor room (I'm 6 months pregnant) and in a quiet area. Our room was on the 2nd floor next to the outside entertainment area. We got to listen to the dire music and 'animation' until 11pm every-night as it pounded through the walls. We tried to move and were offered the room NEXT DOOR to the current room we were staying in! The hotel manager finally admitted that they had a problem with the noise levels and the position of the family rooms and it something they are looking to rectify in the future.
So apart from the noise our room was just OK, huge area, lots of clothes storage space, safe, mini fridge restocked with water everyday, Separate bedroom for our son. Very clean. The bed's were fine if you like super hard beds and bruised hipbones. No bath in the bathrooms which seemed odd for a family room. Great Aircon and black out curtains though.
The hotel grounds are very clean and tidy - there's a lot of building work going on but the noise wasn't an issue. There were people cleaning the paths and gardening everyday. The pools are a bit rank the small paddling pool within the quiet pool isn't filtered so its pretty murky, someone had an accident in the main pool, it wasn't closed for cleaning - the offending floater was just scooped out. Also we all suffered small cuts from the tiles and their unfinished/deteriorating edges in the quieter pool.
The aqua park is fun - a bit tired looking but we enjoyed it and it's slides.
The biggest let down for this hotel is the food. It's pretty rank. The buffet in the main restaurant is fascinating. It's survival of the fittest to not only get to the food but to secure a table. The waiters don't really wait on you - you're best off getting your own drinks from the bar. The English guests are given the option to eat a parred down version of the buffet menu in the a la carte restaurants. Which is fine if you like under cooked chips and fried chicken.
We ate in the Italian restaurant one evening but had to leave, my calamari tasted like deep fried elastic bands on a bed of brown lettuce - the pizzas were devoid of any flavour and dripping in oil we didn't stay to see what horror they unveiled for dessert.
The Beach BBQ was another shocker we had the misfortune of attending terrible food & service and a guy with an electronic violin murdering Adele covers and Neil Sedaka classics!
We spent most evenings outside of the hotel seeking edible tasty food.
Some of the staff were really helpful - mostly the ones we had tipped, the guy who cleaned our room was nice, the reception staff need to go check themselves and understand they're working in a service industry.
It was also a bit of a culture clash with the western bikini clad holiday makers mingling with the burka clad Egyptian families staying at the resort (who didnt look happy with the amount of flesh on show). Our son enjoyed it though, he ate chocolate pancakes for breakfast and made friends at the well run children's club (The First choice one not the international one) but even he at the grand age of 3 complained that the children's entertainment in the evening was 'Not fun'.
Overall we were really let down by this hotel. We've traveled all over the world and are pretty relaxed but couldn't wait to leave this place!

This hotel is just the great the staff are so friendly, especially Amr 2525 he was always making sure we had a drink and gave us plenty of laughs also Mohamed 266 (our cleaner) he always made sure our room was clean and stocked us with plenty of water. The pool boys would always get you a sun bed if there was none about. The animation team work hard here too trying to get you involved in activities during the day and take you clubbing at night, we had a great time with Dan at a night club called Space. Walid and Emma work for First Choice and they both make sure that you are enjoying your holiday and if there is any problems they will sort it. The manager at this hotel is such a lovely man always talking to you making sure you are enjoying yourself and looks for ways of improving the hotel.

We just arrived back this morning and can not wait to go back.

The food at this hotel is fine its not the best but there is always something for you to eat. The management at the hotel put on British nights on a Sunday and Wed these two nights the food is great.

The only complaint I have about the hotel is the people who try to sell you beauty treatments during the day they just wont take no for an answer and try to put you under pressure. I had to be rude to them for them to leave me alone.

Thank you Tropicana for a great holiday and hopefully see you soon :)

Dear Kilpatrick family,

Thank you for your kind review here on TripAdvisor. I have read your review with great interest and will take up your comments with the Management team regarding the staff attempting to get you into the spa being on the pushy side, this should not be any more than a courtesy invitation and explanation of what is on offer and I will ensure that this aspect is discussed and acted upon for the benefit of future guests.

I will also ensure that all your points are passed onto the General Manager Mr Ehab Samir, who I can assure you is taking on board all of our guests comments and feedback.

We as part of the Management team will also ensure that the members of staff that you have mentioned will be notified of your kind words.

It is always pleasing when guests wish to return and we hope to see you again really soon.

Thanks again for your review

We arrived Friday evening at 8.30pm to walk into the very grand entrance and greeted by the loveliest of staff and just thought Wow...this is going to be just perfect and it was in many respects but there were some issues also. My husband and I had a fabulous room facing both the beautiful pool and beach and with a view that took my breath away. Breakfast was very nice, we did choose to eat in the main dining room but the management team have opened the Italian Restaurant should English guests wish to eat there. The choice was very good from omelettes to fried eggs, toast, fresh fruit and yogurts to international options. The speciality restaurants are Italian and Chinese and you may eat there as many times you wish during your stay, the staff are wonderful, food delicious and décor to match. The bar staff are exceptional especially Abdel @ the pool bar who was fabulous, Simon the bar tender was amazing and customer relations inspiring...what a great team Wahleed and Emma..both exceptional people. The Animation Team...WOW..Dan and Kimo absolutely fabulous lads....very sincere and did all they could to make our stay at The Tropicana what it was. Kimo takes the Aqua Gym daily and is excellent putting the fun and laughter back into a workout...Dan, was just fabulous getting all involved in the water polo and volleyball.......I do think these 2 are an inspiration to the hotel and an asset to any management team....2 amazing lads. Fabulous staff, very attentive, very friendly..an excellent team of people. We had 2 spa treatments from Hassan...WOW..out of this world, never had anything like this, TOTALLY HEAVEN.......
The problems arose at the poolbar which is approximately 6 ft deep, little visible signage to tell you the depth and consequently people just jump into it. One set of ladders at either side to get out or if you swim into the middle and get into difficulty you cannot hold onto anything to help you and the side is just too deep to pull yourself up out of it. One afternoon a little Arab girl was trying to hold onto her little brother who was about 8 years old and struggling to stay up, the father had to dive in to get them both. Another day someone jumped in to the larger pool landing on the head of a little Egyptian girl swimming below knocking her unconscious and requiring her to need chest compressions, causing an absolute uproar in the complex. Another day when I and my husband were sunbathing, my husband bolted upright from his sunbed and told me that he thought I needed to help. A young Egyptian Guy was being pulled from the pool. I ran around to were the commotion was to find another English lady doing CPR, she had stopped the poolboy doing mouth to mouth but hey quickly moved her out of the way. As a nursing sister I knew this gentleman needed imput. I told them I was a nurse and they let me tend to him. I cleared his airway of vomit trying to support his little 2 year old son at the same time. Monitored his pulse, although this was thready it was palpatable. 40 mins later a Dr arrived. The gentleman did survive and I now understand that there was other issues surrounding him getting into difficulty. He was taken to hospital unconscious. My husband and I did draft a letter and hand it to the manager of the hotel who quickly responded and met with us both. He was keen to find out what we thought were the problems with the pool ie...not enough ladders to get out, very little signage, NO lifeguards on duty, staff unable to perform safe life support or CPR. The Hotel Manager was very attentive and keen to resolve the problems. The following day a Lifeguard in red attire was on duty, although he did spend the majority of the day with his back to the pool chatting to a lovely lady sunning herself at the pool. Later in the afternoon, he was asked to manage the pool slides from the top.....What on earth? When the pool slides closed a line was fastened across the bottom into the pool before a little child had went down, my husband began screaming at the pool attendant to release the line before the little one decapitated himself on the way down and into the water which he did, although a little late....On our last day (yesterday) another Egyptian boy got into severe distress at the pool, his relative was screaming and the childs father had to jump in with his clothes on to get him out, No sign of the lifeguard.......14 day holiday and potentially 4 drownings...........As I am sure you can sence the issues are at the pool, fabulous staff, wonderful holiday makers, beautiful beach, outstanding animation team, rooms and views to die for, nice food and a lovely manager........My advice to everyone is.......If you know that you can watch your children every minute at the pool then you will have a lovely time, if your honest and you cannot then please don't go.................Util there is better signage stipulating the depths of the water, extra hand grips and ladders for access in and out of the pool, staff that have been trained in CPR and life guards that are watching what is happening in the water rather than fratinizing with the holiday makers then The Tropicana Breach Resort is a Disaster just waiting to happen where there pools are.........would we go again....the simple answer is No until the issues at the pools are relsolved.

Room Tip: Request a pool and beachview if possible.

Dear Jan,

Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure to read about the wonderful treatment you have received from the staff during your stay with us.

Your comments will be passed onto the staff noted with thanks. With regard to the difficulties encountered whilst you were pool side I feel it is only fair that we offer a considered response in this aspect.

It is never nice when any of our guests get into trouble and I have looked into the matter and the circumstances around the incidents, and yes one child had additional problems I am informed rather than just being in the water unable to swim.

Your attendance was very much appreciated on the day in question but I have had to question why a member of the general paying public was allowed to take care of another guest when we had staff on site. Please do not get me wrong, I am extremely grateful for your assistance and my staff stepped aside when they knew that you were a fully qualified Nurse and felt at the time that your input would serve the troubled guest better and on this occasion they were undoubtedly correct, although going forward it is clear that further instruction and training is needed on our part as all volunteering guests in the future may not be as competent as you.

One of our recent problems and it is not an excuse is that at present due to many other hotels introducing water parks, slides etc as an attraction in Sharm, top quality pool staff / lifeguards are a current scarce resource, plus one of our other challenges is dealing with groups of local Arabic children which during summer holidays do not have enough experience of swimming or having responsible adults with them that have the experience of supervising the children under their control. They also as was clear have the competency of adhering to Health and Safety rules around the pools or in fact following the regulations of the pools and Aqua Park.

So what action have we taken since your visit, well

1) We have employed two pool attendants at the big pool
2) We have employed a lifeguard at the Island between the two main swimming pools
3) We have re-structured the locations of the pool attendants to have one pool attendant, or a lifeguard every 3 meters
4) We have put in place training of all staff in the recreation department in both First Aid and CPR
5) We have commenced training of the staff on the correct working procedures and duty of care to the safety of the guests and we are of course attempting to continue employing new and experienced staff.

So to conclude, we are in the process of moving things forward and we will continue to make improvements and we do sincerely hope that these measures will go some way to convince you that should you return to our resort in the future you will see different procedures in place, and if we can convince you to return then we will ensure every courtesy is shown to you and family from all the staff and the whole Management team.

Thanks again

Dear John,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review about our Hotel and Resort.

We as a Management team took over the running of the Sea Beach Hotel and Aqua Park from October last year and we are adapting and changing aspects of the resort through various sources, including getting positive reviews on TripAdvisor to build up our UK based clientele.

We do realise we still have some way to go to achieve our goals but we are working on various initiatives to make our guests stay with us more enjoyable and to attempt to attract new UK guests.

One initiative we are moving towards is a fresh British themed Public House on the beach, run by British staff and we will hopefully be running Karaoke style nights and other UK based themes for both adults and kids alike, with all of the latest top class sports available in Pub like surroundings.

We are also in the process of opening new restaurants in the hotel to try to relieve the burden of excessive diners scrambling all at once for the available buffet.

Anyhow we thank you for your business and should you decide to visit us once again you will see improvements in the fields you have noted that were not to your original tastes.

Kind regards and thanks again

Thank you for your kind comments regarding our Hotel and resort, it really makes all of the hard work worthwhile when such lovely reviews are posted on TripAdvisor.

Mr Ehab the General Manager will not only be absolutely delighted to hear your thoughts about your stay but will also take great delight to pass on the commendations to the staff you have noted, Emma and Dan regularly receive special words of note from recent guests and they are very valuable members of our staff and when people take the time to write commendations then it is only correct that we in turn commend them.

We do hope you will come back to the Hotel and Water Park very soon to visit us once again.
