“Ok for the middle of the wilderness!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

I read about this place and was prepared! I think that is a good way to be - there are few options here after all!

The hotel really does have charm and is just incredibly located (see pics for view at night). You stay, after all, where the Israelites camped! Just don't expect too much from the hotel and you'll be fine. The beds are decent, the linen seemed clean. There was dust over everything - but what else can you expect!

Our issue was the bathroom - our toilet was leaking and by the time we left water was covering a large part of the floor. Also, there was no hot water - the hot water system in our bathroom seemed to be broken and with a big group coming in we knew that it wouldn't get seen to for hours, they might also expect a tip for their work (as they did for assistance with bags) and so we thought we'd cut our losses and deal with it. Other people's bathrooms were fine I'm sure.

Please be careful with the food. Don't eat the custard or milk based products at the restaurant ! A friend of ours got sick from it. Stick to grain based things - breads, etc. We had a little meat as it seemed well cooked, but that was it and we were fine. Read up on what not to eat in Egypt before you go - food poisoning has been a problem for many of our friends visiting there. The coffee is generally horrible - if you can buy coffee bags in your country - bring them.

As a quick stop over to get you to the top of Mount Sinai - this will do! It is an experience of a lifetime so one night in 'not so great' accommodation is no big deal (unless you're fussy of course).

We were really nervous about staying here after we had read all the negative reviews on Trip Advisor. Hey people, this is the middle of a desert!!! The rooms were quite adequate and as clean as you could expect in a very dusty environment. Plumbing worked well and food was edible. At least the hotel had a bit of character!!

Well, the hotel is very outdated. The layout is good and views are very nice but once you step into your room then it all changes. Room deco are very outdated, the rooms were dusty, bath room was ok considering the other rooms. We had a dead bird on a balcony.
The restaurant was a walking distance with average menu. The service was very poor. No one wanted to work. The hotel is 2 minute drive from the foot of St Katherine, which is the only plus side.
We are not planning to go there again

Stayed one night during our visit to Mount Sinai. The scenery from the hotel restaurant is excellent. It is also located bit away from the town centre. Quality of food and the room facilities are below average. We checked into the hotel in the late afternoon and left early in the morning. So one night quick stay can be tolerated.

When we arrived we couldn't decide if it was rustic or run down. The latter very quickly became apparent. The sheets were clean - nothing else was. One pillowcase was torn. No amenities at all (lounge, pool etc.) and it was a bit of a walk (through the desert!) to town. Friends had stayed in the Plaza Hotel. Apparently it was no hell either - but at least it was in the small well-paved and friendly town, and has a pool and bar/lounge (and neat bazaar).. Unfortunately, the picture makes the Wadi Raha like a neat place to stay. But. DO NOT STAY THERE !!!

I can only say that the previous reviewers who thought the place was disgusting were UNDERSTATING!
I agree with everything they said about the filthy, bedbugged and mosquito-ridden, hole in the ground that pretended to be a place of lodging. Even Moses would have prefered his tent, and we found it more comfortable at the top of Mt sinai. I've never been that sick.
The only comment I can add is, we saw the kitchen before breakfast!! We wouldn't eat in the restaurant after that.

We were with a large group and were told this place was the best in the area. If so, should stay anywhere else within reasonable driving radius in order to climb Mt. Sinai. Much of the group (there were 88 of us) had food poisoning, many had bed bugs, toilets didn't work, sheets were filthy - it was just terrible in every respect. We climbed Sinai for the sunset, and were to eat upon arrival back at the hotel at 11:00 pm. Even though starving, most of us couldn't stomach even a piece of bread, the food was that revolting, and breakfast not any better. Don't stay here!
