“Winter sun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

We wanted a week away from England's miserable January weather so booked late (1 week before) to Makadi Palace, as it was featured by the Red Sea tour operators, thro Travel Zoo - at a really bargain price.
Our requirements were primarily sunshine, in an all inclusive good quality hotel. A relaxed quiet week. We got virtually all of our requirements! This hotel along with the four others in the chain of Red Sea hotels were, and are, desperately quiet thro Jan/Feb, so heavily discounted deals are available if you can leave your booking till late. Can't see that changing for a year or two either. If you can still go now then go, otherwise earmark perhaps for next year?
Others have commentated on room standards, location of them etc and really we agree with those views. We were initially located on the ground floor close to reception. Consequently this proved very noisy at night with guests and luggage coming and going at all hours. The management were only too happy to relocate us and gave us a choice of three alternatives. They couldn't have been more accommodating. Although all rooms are generous junior suite sizes, you will be disappointed if you are expecting European '5 star' standards within the rooms and bathrooms. Our assessment would be much more akin to 3 star UK rating.
That is the only downside we can offer and is more than made up for by our enjoyment of all the remaining contributions of Food, Gardens, Location, Staff courtesy etc. The sun shone all week with temperatures around 30 deg rounding off a memorable week!

What a perfect place to totally relax ! We went in January 2013. The grounds are stunning, the rooms 'almost' a little tired but spotless , the food caters for everyone and the staff a lovely. Can get a little chilly at night sometimes. We will definately go back ....only small negative - the evenings could do with better entertainment certainly if your going for 2 weeks.

Room Tip: ask for a room over the Dome looking over the pool as you will get a sunny balcony all day :)

Egypt is the nearest place to go to if you just want a guaranted sunny vacation.
For a sum of less than Euro 700 you will get a trip from Sweden all inclusive.
As we are not particularly fond of buffet dinners, we appreciated the possibility of the different choices of A la carte restaurants. You could choose of Thai, Egypt, Italian, Indian, Mediterranian and French specialized restaurants. The were very good all of them.
The rooms were a little bit worned out and should need to be refreshed.
The snorkeling is fantastic just down the hotel. You have to use special shoes not to hurt yourself on the coral reef.
If you are a golfer you should try the magnificent golf course 15 minutes away with a taxi.
We had not any stomach problems during our stay.
This is our fourth visit to Egypt and we will surely come back in a neat future.

Room Tip: Don´t use ground floor rooms if you are not fond of mosquitos.

This was my 6th stay at a red sea holidays hotel. First time at the Makadi palace. Nice clean room, nice to have a choice of a la carte dining in hotel and also in the Mall. Nice friendly bar staff in the evening especially in the Joker bar. Looking forward to my next trip there in February.Would recommend

We stayed at the Makadi Place in November 2012.

The room was large and kept spotlessly clean and tidy by Hasan.
Credit to Red Sea Hotels for not charging for the safe in the room plenty of hotels do.

A bag with pool towels in is provided and fresh towels are delivered to your room every night.

The hotel itself is nicely laid out, with several swimming pools stretching from the main building down towards the sea front. There were plenty of sunloungers and umbrellas available everywhere.

The beach is nice, with water shallow enough that you can snorkel amongst the coral and fish safely enough even if you are not a strong swimmer. Alternatively, you can snorkel from the jetty that goes out to the edge of the coral reef.

The food is great. There are ten different restaurants to choose from in the evening, two buffets, a show cooking buffet, and seven a la carte, We ate in nine of them.

We preferred breakfast outside by the pool at the Discovery restaurant, but you can eat inside or outside at Discovery, Melange or the Dome and the food is much the same.

There are plenty of lunch options, the main buffets, Rendezvous for a sandwich, the reef if you want a burger and chips – get there early if you want a table, the Thai is also open at lunchtime

I the evening, the two buffets (Melange and the Dome) are pretty much what you might expect, plenty to choose from, nice enough food. We only ate in each one once.

We ate in the French, Italian, Egyptian & Chinese restaurants in the mall, and they were all very nice, and the service was excellent.

Inside the Makadi Palace, the Botanical Gardem restaurant was excellent, both inside and outside, the food was great and the service was wonderful.

The Discovery show cooking buffet was also excellent, better to sit outside if you can, slightly less service because of the nature of a buffet, but the service element was still excellent.

That leaves the Thai Garden, reading reviews of the Makadi Palace, everyone says the Thai is the best and with good reason. The food is fantastic with service to match. The all-inclusive menu is also more extensive than the other a la cartes. It also does a very nice four course lunch.

The evening entertainment is surprisingly good, though runs on a seven day cycle, so if you go for two weeks, you might see the same shows.

In the evenings, there is the Joker bar, where the entertainment is, the piano bar and the lobby bar. We mostly went to the Joker bar, it has the mini disco, then the show, then a disco, the service is, as I seem to keep saying, excellent especially Ahmed in the evening and the incomparable Mahmood who works the dayshift.

Luise (and Cleo the blue mouse) from guest relations runs tea parties, for British guests, during the week and asks everyone if they have any problems, what they like, what they don’t like etc. It’s all very proactive and so very civilised. You can complain over tea and a scone in the sunshine rather than going to reception. She’s very nice, always smiling, and nothing is too much trouble.

Animation is very subtle, there is aquagym and yoga and volleyball etc, but nobody comes around trying to encourage anyone to join in. If you want to do it, it’s there. If you don’t want to do it nobody will come and pester you to join in.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in the Makadi Palace, we had no problems at all. Everything was great, the hotel, room, food, pools, weather, beach, fish, turtles and especially the staff, everyone is incredibly helpful and nothing is too much trouble.

My boyfriend and I stayed here from 4th Jan'13 for 1 week. Having already stayed at its sister hotel, The Grand Makadi, we knew what to expect. Our previous holiday to Egypt was an awful experience and after complaining to Red Sea Holidays, we received a voucher for a holiday - hence why we returned.

Our initial thoughts of the hotel were we thought it was beautiful! Arriving at night, the hotels were lit up were hundreds of lights - making the hotel look fantastic and very posh!

The bell boys greeted us taking us to the welcome meeting point where we received our all inclusive bands and general info regarding the hotels facilites. After this we were escorted to our rooms - ten minutes later recieving our suitcases which were taken to us by the bell boys (be aware that they will not leave your room until you tip them).

The room we stayed in was 4402.. Beautiful view of the jokers bar, pool and surrounding restaurants. The room was clean and spacious. Cleaner came everyday. Unfortunately on arrival our mini bar was not filled correctly and on departure the hotel tried to charge us for items we did not use. Rooms, especially bathroom could do with some updating.

There are alot of different restaurants to choose from to eat in for breakfast lunch and dinner. However, the food was awful. Chicken was always raw, pastas were always cold, fruit was always brown and soggy... It was not great at all. We seemed to find that all the restaurants had a funny mouldy smell in them also. The only two restaurants which were semi-decent, was the chinese and italian in the little mall out the front of the palace. Most of the items on the menu are not all inclusive but there are some items which are. Both of us escaped sicky tummys - but we basically lived on crisps from the shops as the food was horrible.

Although advertised as an all inclusive hotel - we spent alot of money. Drinks from the MAIN bar in the hotel are not free - you even have to pay for water!

Staff were a hit or a miss - some were extremely helpful, others were downright rude and being blonde, I found alot of the men who worked at the hotel were very flirty and stared at me alot which made both my boyfriend and I really angry.

All in all.. This hotel is definetely NOT a 5 star! A 3 star at a push. Behind the beautiful scenery and hotel architecture is a very old hotel with horrendus food!

Will not return.

Our holiday started on 28th December for 1 week. The hotel is set in lovely complex. Amanda the guest relations manger was a fantastic help throughout our stay. We complained about the pool temperature being freezing cold, she then sourced wristbands for the neighbouring hotel which had warmer pools for our two families to swim in. The rooms as previously stated on trip advisor need plenty of renovation as the bathrooms are very shabby. We both had very dodgy stomach's on the last day so be careful to have your food cooked properly. There is absolutely nothing for the kids to do of a night. We would would go back to Makadi Bay just not the Makadi Palace!! And just an additional bit of info is we would never never fly with Monarch airlines ever again, they make Ryanair seem like Emirates airlines!!!
