“Most Fantastic Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Having just returned from Makadi Palace after many many visits, this time was even more special than ever.We were a party of six, on a 60th birthday holiday for my wife. On arriving at the reception area,we were met with a cold refreshing drink, and a warm welcome.
The reception staff are so freindly, two of the reception staff Haytham and Mohamed made sure all our party were in rooms close together. We chose this hotel because it has a laid back atmoshhere, perfect for relaxation. we have been to this hotel numerouse times in the past , and have watched the grounds maturing over the years. We are early risers, but even if you arent, there will be plenty of sunbeds available even after breakfast.
There are three breakfast venues , lots of choice for everyone, you can eat out in the sun or sit indoors with air conditioning , if you like it cooler.
There are plenty of choices for lunch, the sunset bar near the beach, offers burgers hot dogs and the chips are great. We would change from day to day , But we loved long liesurley lunches in the Thai Garden , you wont be dissapointed if you try there, the food and staff are both amazing.
The pool boys, will offer you their services, always with a smile. We like to reward them for their service with dollar notes.as they have a problem with exchanging pound coins. You wont get a lesser service if you dont tip them. But Its nice to be nice.
In the evening there are plenty of restaurants to choose for dinner. Our personal favourites are the Thai Garden, and the Botanical Garden, service and food are to a high standard. After dinner you could relax at the Joker bar. The piano bar, or the rondevous bar, or relax on the terrace near the reception. The gin and tonics are good, but the whisky is an aquired taste. the egyption red and white wines are very good.the girls in our party loved the rose wine. the beer is very good too.
If you need any advice about your holiday, then speak to Amanda in customer relations, she is very very helpful, and very scottish.
Our party of six all had a wonderful holiday at the Makadi Palace, and i would like to thank Searge , and John . and Mr Hatim and Mr Antor, and everyone who made that 60th birthday holiday so great. You will see us again in may.

we stayed here for a week from sept 7th we had the best time i can not understand the bad reviews yes the rooms are a little tired but really clean and spacious. we had a junior suite which had a large balcony there was only a bit of a view due to a large tree .i am sure we could have been moved but enjoyed watching the wild life in the mornings including the resident gecko. wally our cleaner did a fab job with the room and some good towell art. the red sea reps are excellant and georgesr econised us from a previous trip to hurghda which was a nice suprise we tried the thai botanic and the italian at the sunwing the italian has the best views and the hotel was lovely but it seamed very empty .we spent our evenings at the piano bar and rendevous the waiters were brilliant we spent our days on the beach it was 36 i was concerned but the sunlounges offer enough shade and i still came home with a tan the snorking is wonderfull even my husband who cant swim managed to snorkle as its shallow i would definately recomend this lovely hotel with friendly staff and i will definately return

We chose Makadi Palace for a guaranteed sun and relaxation holiday because it looked great on the internet and in brochures. However in reality neither do this hotel and complex justice. We loved it.
Very well organised on arrival, straight onto a/c coach after getting cases and visas. About 30 other guests on coach so filling in arrival form and getting to our room took under 30 mins. We had emailed direct to the hotel earlier requesting a quite room with good pool views, and boy did we get what we asked for. For great views go for the top floor near reception, we were room 4320. See picture 1 to share what we saw every day from our balcony.
ROOM: As with other reviews the rooms are clean, and spacious, but showing their age, but acceptable as a clean, quiet, comfy base. Fresh new towels (both room and beach) every day, and a good room cleaner who made us lovely towel animals most days, bonus.
EATING: Plenty of restaurants to choose from, from buffet to Al la carte, we tried a good selection and all served freshly cooked and prepared selections of food. Yes some had both AL (all inclusive) and priced courses for starter, main and desert, but very reasonable prices throughout if you like something a bit special as we did a few times. Special thanks to Viktoria, restaurant manager at the Discovery restaurant, for looking after us so well. The Dome, a buffet style restaurant, where we enjoyed breakfast and lunch most days, all the waiters were very efficient and kept on their toes by the manager Abdelsalam, again plenty of very well prepared food throughout the serving times.
POOL AREAS: Pools cleaned daily and warm, with plenty of variety for all ages. Sunloungers cleaned every evening ready for the next day, and always plenty of choice whether full sun or shaded, or both as in our case. Grounds constantly being cleaned and plants trimed back, and lovely trees and shrubs make the grounds some of the best we have ever experienced.

Although we were initially concerned about mosquitos esp in the evenings, there were only a handful throughout all 2 weeks of our holiday. Pool waiters always on hand kept us well supplied with free drinks, and understandably no glasses were used outside the bars themselves for safety reasons, excellent service every day made for a very relaxing holiday. Showers next to pool steps, and near the beach proved great especially to rinse of the sea water after our swim and snorkel times. As we read, water shoes are essential to walk through the shallow water out to the deeper water and coral areas. In quite shallow water the fish gathered around in large numbers, so we didn't have to swim far to see loads of beautiful species. Underwater camera captured dozens of different sorts.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing break at Makadi Palace, and want to return in the new year. Special thanks to the Customer Relations representative, Amanda, who helped us no end. So if anyone has a problem or requirement, Amanda will sort it quickly and efficiently.

Room Tip: Rooms on lower floors sometimes blocked by trees and shrubs, so for great views ask for top floor...

Not the best holiday start with only one bag making it to Hurghada (the other went on a wee trip to Frankfurt) then the other bag got taken off the coach at a different hotel. Thankfully all sorted thanks to the amazing service provided by Red Sea Holidays staff. Be warned if your luggage goes AWOL you have to travel to the airport to collect it personally, cost us £35 and a couple of hours round trip.

No welcome drink on arrival and they forgot to give us our wrist bands, no big deal but a bit annoying after the stressful start. We had requested high floor and quiet room and got exactly that so we were very pleased. I was very happy with the room, lovely view over the waterpolo pool, good size, very clean but agree bathroom needs updated and the shower was the worst ever (have had better in budget hostels in Mozambique) We didn't bother complaining as didn't want to shift rooms. We were never disturbed by housekeeping which i note others have complained about.

The hotel itself is stunning, truly arabian nights architecture and the pools are wonderful. Sadly I have to agree with some of the grumblers about the food and drinks. There is a huge choice with all the different restaurants BUT with the exception of the Thai the choice of all inclusive meals is limited especially if you are a carnivore. We enjoyed the Thai, chinese and botanic garden but there were disappointments with nearly all our meals especially with Tam Tam the middle eastern, i couldn't eat my main dish, the local Mousakka, it really was nasty and I'm not a fussy eater. I like to enjoy local cuisine and was looking forward to the middle eastern dishes - not an option really after the Tam Tam experience. The additional amounts you pay are cheap but i agree its not all inclusive if you are having to always pay extra for a semi decent meal and its not just prawns or lobster you are paying extra for. The buffets have been well covered by other reviewers. The food is ok but a long way off the Sofitel Hotel, a very similar hotel, in Taba for example. I think really they have compromised quality for quantity of choice. Like most all inclusive hotels you need to get to the buffet early if you want decent food and especially breakfast if you want a cuppa as there were never any mugs available after about 0830. I disagree that the food catered only for Germans, the breakfast and other buffets served fairly standard fare in comparison with other Egyptian all inclusives and the owner is Swiss after all! I really can't avoid responding to the very ignorant reviewer who ranted about there only being chicken sausages and beef bacon - please, if you are not aware that Muslims, like Jews do not eat pork then maybe you shouldn't be holidaying in an Islamic country.

The other big issue was having to book the restaurants in advance, this was annoying as different places had different set times when you had to go and book which was confusing, also some especially the italian were completely booked up days in advance. The best thing is to go the day you arrive and book up all the places you want for the whole holiday - a bit rubbish when you are on a 2 week holiday and you aren't sure what and when you want to be eating 9 days in advance! Drinks were also a bit of an issue, miniscule plastic cups - basically 2 mouthfulls, would agree take your own mug. Also quality of drinks seemed to vary hugely between the bars, no idea how a tonic water can taste so different between different bars in the same hotel and no 2 cocktails were the same. Very difficult to get a cold drink anywhere even if you ask for ice. However pool and bar staff great and they are coming round offering drinks at the beach and pool all the time.

The beach is builders grade gravel and its very difficult to walk over the rocks/dead coral to get to deep water even with beach shoes but there is a lovely beach a few mins walk away at the sunwing and prima life hotels where you don't need beach shoes. Jetty at the Grand looks like it might be finished in next few weeks. No showers at the beach and the spa staff stopped people using the spa's beach showers and pool even though we had been told we could use the facilities at the other hotels The snorkeling is fabulous - no need to go on a boat trip really and the dive centre was good as well with diving off the beach at prima life.

Trip to Luxor and snorkelling trips (Dolphin) booked via Red Sea Holidays were absolutely brilliant and good value for money.

We scouted out the other hotels, the Grand looked nice but def not as good as the Palace and the jetty is not finished yet. The Makadi Spa was a building site - no idea why anyone would stay there at the moment. The sunwing looks nice from the outside but disneyland inside - one for the kids when its finished. Further round the bay Prima life and Fort Arabesque did not appeal to us but the cheaper prices probably reflect this. The palace certainly seemed the best locally.

We would certainly consider returning to this hotel as overall we had a fabulous 2 weeks holiday however preferentially i would go back to the Sofitel at Taba for a better room, beach, food and all inclusive package. We've spent 5 weeks now in Egypt cumulatively and we love it, the culture, the history, the climate and the people are wonderful, go with a good sense of humour and don't stew about the haggling, a firm "no" and a smile is all it takes. If that fails tell them you are from Scotland, we Scots seem to have a reputation for being tight over there and were soon left alone by the vendors!

Room Tip: rooms above waterpolo pool quiet and lovely views

Gatwick flight with Monarch was great. Hurghada airport is a bit of a madhouse!

Red sea Reps were very visible and the transfer to the resort was well organised and stress free. Upon arrival we needed to fill out a couple of forms (which took about 10mins) and then given the card to our room> When we got to our room, the view was obscured by a large tree so we asked to me moved. There was no problem with that and we moved to another room straight away. i have to say that the staff are helpful and attentive. If you are not happy about something just tell them and they will resolve any problems with the minimum of fuss.If you have any concerns about anything then speak to Amanda who is the Red Sea resident rep, she is such a lovely helpful person and will go that extra mile to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

The rooms are very spacious but in need of a re-vamp, this I have to say is the only quip we really had about this resort and felt that it makes the hotel more a 4 star than 5 star.

Food was plentiful and there are lots of restaurants to choose from, bottled water is available in all the bars and restaurants, you just ask for it (most of the time they will put bottles on the tables). Alcoholic drinks and wine is included. Don't bother upgrading to a 'black band' for premium drinks. My partner had a black band and I had the standard band and most of the time we could not tell the difference!

The pool areas are beautiful and are kept immaculate and very clean. The beach at the hotel is mainly coral but worth getting a snorkel and rock shoes to go out and see the fish, they are amazing. We walked along the beach one afternoon and it was lovely.

Overall this hotel is great and I would definitely go back again but come on Red Sea Holidays give the Palace rooms a re-vamp and her 5 stars will definitely be worthy!

Room Tip: The rooms above the Botanical Gardens restaurant are in a good location

Holiday 24 Aug – 07 Sep, our 3rd visit to this hotel in the past 2 years and can’t wait to go back again.

Have been meaning to write a review as soon as we got back, but other things took over. Then I saw a couple of bad reviews about this hotel and felt that I had to write something. We loved it and very one we spoke to there said it was great and would look at returning. If you want a holiday of relaxation, then that is what you get.

We have been to Makadi Bay 8 times and found this to be the best Hotel in the bay, maybe the complainers should try the others, then they may see why people keep returning to this hotel.

Snorkelling is a must, this visit was the first time we snorkelled and wished we had done it sooner. Next time we will make sure we have a waterproof camera as the fish are amazing. It is worth remembering that you will need sea shoes to go in the sea because of the coral reef.

As for the food, it is excellent with a lot of choice, I am a very fussy vegetarian, but I never went hungry, rather the opposite actually (gained a few pound). The staff are always willing to help with any dietary requirements.

For breakfast the melange was quieter than the Dome and the freshly made omelettes a better choice. The only downfall was the waiter reserving tables for the good tippers, don’t get me wrong I tip, but when they deserve it, not just for the sake of it so that you can get the table you want.

The Sunset Bar for lunch, fish & chips a must try, all freshly cooked while you wait.

The Rendez Vous bar is also great for lunch, with a choice of salad or hot food to order, there was also ice cream and crepes, but beware if the chef offers you a special, nothing bad just a large plate of crepes, ice cream and fruit it’s amazing but very filling.

We ate in all of the restaurants except the French, but another couple said it was excellent, so will try next time. Would highly recommend a visit to the Thai restaurant.

The Botanical Garden restaurant was a bit of a let down, didn’t seem much different from the Melange.

We take thermal mugs, which the staff are happy to fill, as the drinks by the pool come in small plastic cups, two sips and they are gone.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they are very friendly and helpful and always make you feel very welcome. Can’t wait for our next visit.

It is worth noting that when you get to the Airport you go to the bank on the left hand side rather than where the reps sends you as the visa's are cheaper.
