“Fantastic winter escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

Have just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel, covering both Christmas and New Year. The whole family really enjoyed our stay. The staff are friendly polite and very attentive. The food, we found to be varied, good quality and really tasty. The 7 themed a la carte restaurants offered a lovely alternative to the main buffet style restaurant, it really helped to keep things exciting throughout the fortnight.

Our room was clean, spacious and functional, and serviced by the cleaner everyday. The shower was the only negative point with the water flow being a bit hit and miss - not totally unusual at peak times though.

We were really lucky to have enjoyed the two gala dinners over the festive period. The effort the entire staff had put in was amazing. We were totally impressed and had two wonderful evenings.

Overall I feel we had a real value for money holiday. I would recommend this hotel especially to families and would consider going back.

We have been to Egypt a few times and this was the best hotel we have stayed at yet. If some people do not think it is 5 star then it must be at least 4 star plus. everything was either new or in the process of being refurbished. The restaurants were all to a very high standard and staff were all friendly and hard working. nothing seemed too much for them. most of the pools were heated and there was no shortage of sun loungers! If I am going back to Makadi bay I would definitely use this hotel again! What more needs to be said?

You can be sure of a right Royal welcome at the Royal Makadi. From the moment you step from the coach until you step on to go home, you will be made to feel special, nothing is any trouble for the friendly staff to make your stay memorable.newly refurbished it now lives up to its 5 star status. With seven al a carte restaurants to choose from included in the all inclusive holiday you will be spoiled from choosing another hotel. We have been10 times in 3 years.I must mention Hashim front desk manager he is awesome....good for a laugh.....and does he know is stuff.Mohammed Ali,yes that's right. He is amazing and cannot do enough for you.The GM is always around and very approachable....not usually so in large resorts.

Room Tip: all the rooms are of high standard.if you need a room near reception just e.mail them and they will...

In the period 11-22- December 2012 we (my wife and me) visited for the 3rd time the Sunrise Royal Makadi Bay resort in Hurghada, Egypy. We selected this hotel again because of the service we receive, the excellent food in the ala carte restaurants and the very helpfull and friendly staff. Many times were helped by the friendly and skillfull mr. Sayed at the reception. The (minor) problems we had in our Jr. suite were promptly addressed by him. On the beach t the VIP pool bar we were helped by the friendly mr. Saleh. From 10 o'clock in the morning until five in the afternoon he served (always with a smile on his face) the drinks. Most times we where at the beach around 8 o'clock in the morning (the sun is then already very nice) where we were helped by mr. Abdallah (from the recreation service). All in all, we had again a very pleasant holiday at the Sunrise and we will certainly visit the resort next year again.

From arriving and being made welcome with a juice and a smile after a long day travelling it didnt take the hotel long to get us sorted and moved to our rooms giving us plenty of time to have a mooch about albeit in the dark and a bite to eat. I cannot enthuse enough about this hotel... the cleanliness, the standard, politeness and all the staff each and every one never failed to smile and make you feel welcome. We had such fun with the animation team who always popped by to say hi but never pestered you and if you wanted to join in then you were very welcome.... and this we did after slobbing for the first week, Archery with Marley and a spot of Latina Dancing and Aqua Aerobics. Kastella, Jon, Marley, Midoo,Boca etc all made for a fun time. The pool bar was manned by the best barman Whaleed (even tho it wasnt busy being winter and the water chilly) he came round every morning with water and by the end of the hols he was bringing our usuals without asking :D The food was of high standard even in the buffet restaurant... a bit of a free for all with the Russians but elbows at the ready and you were fine ha ha... we found that breakfast in the Mexican Restaurant was much more civilised and Nesma was an Angel with a coffee pot in hand and try and book your a la carte restaurants early as they get booked up and i would highly recommend the Asian and Tratorria.... the food was out of this world ....there was a lot of choice for food in the daytime too and if u get chance go see Amhed in the pizza station...what a lovely happy chap..made the lads hols by letting them make there own pizzas...(these are fully grown men - not boys) and the bar staff were brilliant too, always attentive and when your glass was empty they were there to ask if you needed a refill or anything else...Khaled in the lobby bar made a mean coctail and would make u anything you wanted. The accomodation was lovely too we did ask for a move as we were put in the family section as they thougt we were 2 adults 2 kids lol ( well i suppose if u looked at the blokes they were probs right ha ha) so they moved us no quibbles to a lovely block (25) and these were lovely. We had the best time and i cannot wait to return although i will go earlier in the year as it is pretty chilly on an evening in December. Our one and only grouch from this holiday was there were no international brands to drink and you only had a choice of local ones.

Room Tip: Block 25 was quiet yet close enough to the main area

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Enjoyed a pleasant stay at this resort over the Xmas break. We were a family of 5 - three children aged 4,2 and 8 months.

Although classed as a 5 star resort do not think it is Dubai standard 5 star. More like 3-4 star accommodation although the service and value was excellent.

Top tips for travellers below:

1) exchange cash into Egyptian pounds BEFORE you go. The resort is far from town and the hotel have a machine which exchanges cash but not at great rates. Bear in mind As everything is included cash is only really required for external trips, spa treatments and tips.

2) on arrival at the airport DO NOT join the Thomas cook line with the masses to purchase your visa. You can buy it from the bank in the left hand corner of the hall. You will save the £3 TC admin fee PER visa. (We made this mistake with a party of 7).

3) we were in the family block 34 opposite the family pool area. The rooms in this block were quite run down. Imagine 3 star standard although they were of a good size - two interconnecting rooms with the other room having 2 single beds. We saw a family room in block 38 which was more modern and had two washrooms although further away from pool. No bathtub.

4) TC will heavily encourage you to purchase excursions through then and discredit any of the operators on the beach side. Take this with a pinch of salt and enquire with the other operators before booking. Despite the TC stories the other operators are credible and would not be allowed to operate on the resort site if they were not. We went on the Mahmiya island day trip and a discovery boat ride which had a panoramic screen in the hull to give a fantastic view of the underwater marine life in the Red Sea. Kids loved it.

5) there is a special offer on laundry for 9 euros a bag. This is excellent value which we made use of a few times.

6) out of the 7 a la carte restaurants the best ones were the Arabian, Asian and Italian. Excellent fine dining style experiences. There are two booking slots available every day - 1830 and 2000. Booking is done by an efficient automated system from the lobby area.

7) try the Turkish coffee in the 24hr lobby bar! We only discovered this the day before departure. Worth having.

8) use of the sauna steam room and jacuzzi in the spa is included. Nice spa. Treatments are also good value ie massages etc. negotiate hard and you'll get a good deal!

TOP POSITIVES

1) EVERYTHING IS INCLUDED! All the a la carte restaurants, drinks , pool bar snacks throughout the day. With young Children the ability to get food on tap was a great advantage. Honestly don't know how they make money with the amount of food and drink consumed by guests!

2) three heated pools allowing you to swim even in their winter - although weather was still a pleasant 25 degs. The unheated pools were empty! Ice cold

3) water is replenished daily in the mini bar. Soft drinks weekly. Again all free.

4) service is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. There is a kid friendly eating area in the main restaurant which is a nice tough. Small table and chairs adjoined to a parents table with their own buffet. Also available is a microwave here and bottle warmer. Service in this area is great. Drinks are brought to you and always asking if you need anything.

5) buffet in main restaurant is great. We went there for breakfast and lunch most days and few times for dinner. Selection is excellent and never spoilt for choice. In the morning fresh egg counter and pancakes. For dinner there is a fresh pasta counter. Every night there is a special food theme. Sundays is Sunday roast english style. Meat chicken fish vegetarian all available. You name it!

6) free kids club is available for children over 3. We used this a couple of times. There is a dedicated one for TC UK. Also available is a playground area with climbing frame swings etc.

7) beach is nice and sandy and shallow bay which was not too cold to swim in December. Very calm too. Although heated pools were a couple of degrees warmer.

NOT SO POSITIVES

1) rooms are tired looking (well the one we were in).

2) can't think of any others! Oh although the staff are very accommodating and friendly they do struggle with understanding English at times. The reception staff fully understand though.

Overall great value resort for some winter sun and really convenient with kids. All on one level with buggy access via ramps etc. Would go there again!
