“Beautiful Resort - Worth every penny.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2011

I visited Stella Makadi during Oct 2008 with my mum and me needing a 2 week girly holiday. Booked through Thomas Cook who I always travel with for inclusive holidays. This resort is in the middle of nowhere pretty much the local town is 30-40 mins away but the hotel provides a free shuttle. Inside resort you will never feel secluded inside the grounds.

First off the Hotel drive and reception is absolutely stunning - absolutely massive and right on the beach. check in was ok, we were given a room which showed the dry dessert which wasn't to our taste so we went back to reception asked to change and with a little fuss we were given a garden view room which was much better. Theres a massive shopping area on site buy unfortunately some shop keepers were very rude and unfortunately to the point where we complained! The reception staff were also not so friendly. But this didnt faze us too much.

Our hotel room was really clean, spacious and modern complete with mini bar (which they refilled every morning) and tv and all the luxuries you would get here in the uk. Rooms cleaned every single day and the maids are so lovely if you can leave them small tips or your left over toiletries at the end of your trip.

The balconies were also really nice and me and mum often dried off after a shower on the balcony under our towels of course.

The breakfast, lunch, dinner buffet, nightly bbq was so nice, plentiful and tasty, Bar staff were also lovely (all males though). DONT drink the tap water or brush your teeth with it and be careful with hygiene - I was bed ridden for 3 days or so but a quick trip to the chemist helped me out. My mum had a dodgy stomach for a day or so too - probably more so the change of habitat!

Hurghada main town is amazing and me and my mum regularly took the free bus there and we even booked our Cairo excursion in the town with a great travel shop (much cheaper than with Thomas Cook) although unfortunately i don't remember the name. Note to please be extra careful in the local town as some locals will try rip you off and trick you with your change etc. Its always best to book taxis etc through your hotel. There are also some great restaurants in the main town and they are ridiculously cheap - x2 two course meal for £10!!!!

Hotels a la carte restaurants are not included you must pay extra which we didnt want nor feel we needed to! buffet was great.

The pool is fabulous, really clean and pretty to look at and the best thing is it leads upto the beach. Take snorkelling gear because on the beach theres a pier where you can snorkel from the fishes are beautiful. Theres plenty of watersports to do and diving also.

Night entertainment could be better and after two weeks got repetitive but hey what do you expect your on holiday!!! Daily animation team were fab too and I did most exercise classes.

There was an amazing gym overlooking the sea which we b=never used lol and also a spa but it was pricey so we didnt use this either

If you love quads like me book through the sales guys around the pool and get a good deal £15-20 is good don't pay more!!! They will barter with you so you should with them too.

All in all a fab holiday. I recommend highly :-)

Just returned from a week at the Stella Makadi and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Food was excellent with lots of choice and a different theme every night ensuring we didn't get bored of the food on offer. The chefs all wear plastic gloves too, keeping food service hygenic. No upset stomachs for us! Yes, it can happen in hot countries but they are clearly doing everything they can here to minimise this. The buffet-style restaurant did mean that there are lots of guests walking round and it can be a little chaotic but we just went along when it seemed less busy or took our time walking round and not rushing to get food. There's no need to rush, if something runs out it is immediately replaced. The pool bar also offers pizzas and snacks for lunch so sometimes we went there for a change. (All part of the all inclusive package)

Rooms were a good size and beds were very comfortable. Our room was cleaned daily and the cleaner always checked to see if there was anything else we needed. The shower room was also a good size but probably the one area in need of a little updating. However, it was still clean and tidy and everything worked. It was also my birthday whilst on holiday and the staff arranged a birthday cake with candle delivered to the room, and made a display of petals and towels shaped as swans on the bed. A very nice surprise! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and looked after.

The pool areas and beach are great with lots of free sundbeds, parasols and windbreaks. We never had a problem finding somewhere to relax for the day in the sun. At the moment there is a breeze coming in but it is a nice balance against the 20-25 degrees and means you don't overheat in the sun. You will need a light jacket and trousers for the evening if outside as it can get down to 12-15 degrees. But it is their winter time and only similar to what England gets in the summer!

We also did some scuba diving with the onsite dive team - Piano Divers - situated on the beach. They are PADI and SSI registered and run dive courses as well as trips for those already qualified. The guys there were great, very friendly and flexible too. We had two dives booked over two mornings but decided at lunchtime to do the second dive in the afternoon and they had no problem changing things to accomodate us.

A lovely holiday and great destination for some winter sun!

It's a shame that the review doesn't have a separate tick-box for food: it's such an important subject. I would have given it 4 stars because, although it was a bit samey, there was plenty of choice. The dining room was busy but never frustrating and the alcoholic cocktails weren't worth talking about, but the service was almost always very friendly and the people-watching was enjoyable. The beach bar was a bit disappointing for lunch, but at least it was an alternative. Never saw any alcohol-related problems, which I'd expected at an all-inclusive (this was our first one). Something that may not be well known is that you can go to the beach and smoke a shisha until 2 in the morning if you want a bit of action: there's nothing else. Everything there is 2 euros, though, which is a lot for a can of Coke.
Evening entertainment was weak, although the Whirling Dervish was something to remember.
For us the weather was absolutely perfect and the snorkelling was excellent for the first 2 days and only a little bit murky thereafter.
The trip to Hurghada was purely a shopping excursion (not the cultural experience Thomas Cook suggested - but at least a midweek chance to get off campus. Luxor was 4 hours away which seemed like a hard days work to us, so we opted out.

Arrived late evening but were served a meal and enjoyed the rest of the evening getting settled in. Lovely room overlooking pool. The grounds were really good. So many guests staying there but you never felt overcrowded. Meals were good, staff very helpful and our main thanks go to the staff looking after the rooms, always clean and tidy. Bar staff were excellent. Our special thanks to Hossam at the Pool Bar. He was very friendly, always smiling and always willing to help. He certainly helped to make our holiday.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I had read some reviews about the Stella Makadi before going, and was quite unsure of what we would find. We found a very pleasant hotel, the grounds are well kept, tidy and clean. We had a very comfortable room, which was very clean, the sheets spotless and the bathroom very clean. We had two room cleaners, who were very good and just couldnt do enough for us. Yes you do get a bit fed up with the food, but being a very picky eater I still found something everyday that I could eat. The food down at the beach was very good. Also the Al a carte resturants were good, although you had to pay for those. The staff were all very helpful and again couldnt do enough for you. The beach area was kept very clean, although you did have to be up early to get a wind break round your sunbeds. So all in all the was a very good holiday. The only downside I would say that there were very few English people there, but that didnt bother us at all.

Arrived 17th December for a weeks r & r with husband and two adult daughters. We have travelled extensively over the last few years and haven't reported issues on any website previously! On arrival, the hotel looked nice, rooms allocated were fine and bathrooms nice, however within 24hrs I was grounded with severe stomach cramps and diahorrea. Symptoms caught up with both daughters and husband over the next few days and illnesses continued throughout the holiday and remains ongoing! Never have I been so glad to get back on UK soil! The Thomas Cook rep insisted it wasnt a hotel problem and that it must be down to climate change. I think not! Having watched several guests leave the dining room being sick in bags - I beg to differ! Despite the illness, we felt the food was extremely sub standard. Everything on offer was tasteless and very unappetising. Boiled beef served in a variety of guises just doesnt do it for me.

Anyway - the positives were:- the staff were very good natured and provided good service; the rooms were spacious and well appointed; only 5 - 6hrs flight

negatives; food (absolutely awful), weather (sun gone by 2.30pm and windy beyond belief - ski jackets were not out of place on the evening); entertainment (rubbish and often inappropriate - aquagym verging on pornographic)

I always use this site prior to booking holidays and although i realise i sound extremely negative, i felt it necessary to put our thoughts back into the system. Never will I venture back to Egypt never mind this hotel. Wondering if I'm on a different planet to those who say otherwise!
