“Very nice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

The resort is huge and there is all kinds of activities. We we're given a family room for two people, so we had plenty of room. The service was very friendly and good, the all inclusive-package was wonderful!

We loved this hotel, we read the monologue posted in October but have to say we had none of the problems discussed with speaking English, animations, room size or tipping.

All the staff spoke English and were most happy to do so, even to the extent where they seemed to prefer serving us to the Germans, later in the holiday they did explain that it was easier for them to speak English than German, we always were served quickly and never left tips.

The animation team was excellent and hard working, the dance lessons around the site should not be missed, suitable for all ages, well, most of them, big kisses to wacko and his friend, who's name escapes me now!

Our room was not big but it was quality and very clean, we booked a standard room and asked for it to be on the ground floor, and it was, in block 3000, we had a private terrace and a view over the river which runs through the hotel giving it a unique appeal.

If you like company most Germans speak English, just go round saying hello and y will meet the nicest folk, yes mainly German but losts of Dutch too and the odd English person.

I will also say that we were never bothered by anyone trying to sell anything, even on the lovely beach.

We loved this hotel. The highlight for me is the beach. With most beaches in Egypt you can only get in the sea via the jetty, this beach has both jetty and walk in waves. The food was good too, I am a fussy eater but managed to find something every meal. The best chef has to be the egg chef in the German restaurant, very friendly and funny. The Italian restaurant not so friendly, but there are 5 different restaurants to choose from so you should be able to find one to suit. Rooms are functional and clean. The river down the centre of the complex is fab, something to look at whilst walking round and you can feed the fish too. The boat taxis are good for getting down to the beach when you feel like being lazy.

Room Tip: A room facing the center of the complex would be nice.

We traveled Egypt, Israel, and Jordon. Five weeks total. Oct./Nov. 2012...We stayed at this and several other Dan resorts...And for the the most part we were pleased. We are Americans and non-smokers so the permission to smoke just about anywhere was not pleasant. Non-smoking rooms smelled like smoke. The Staff was friendly, the rooms had plenty of space and the amenities on may need. Comparing it to other Resorts we stayed it in was just average. The others were like Palaces. In fact when you plan your trip look for the word Palace in the name of your accomadations! Prices are similar. Overall the Palace chain is Five star plus!

Room Tip: Ask to be close to the elevators. Unless you like spending your time on a long trek down hallways to...

Dana Beach is a large resort. The rooms are all tiled and have low quality furniture. The bathroom is large an nice (we had an oceanfront superior apartment). The beach itself is ok, there are some nice riffs for snorkeling nearby. We didn't like the food, quality was poor and every restaurant served pretty much the same. Internet did not work since there are technical problems with Apple iOS. Overall a nice sunny holiday, but we wouldn't visit this hotel again.

This hotel amazed me and gave the best impression of all hotels I have visited in Egypt. I spent there two weeks in 2009. I loved service there, food was delicious, servis very friendly. There were several restaurants with fresh, nicely served food with very gentle service. Nice animations - so we spent there an interesting time.
Surroundings were nice as well, close to shopping street, disco's - people from other hotels came there by. It was close to Hurgadha and located so, that in the evenings we could have had a walks along the streets. Hotel was full of rather old people so it was quiet and perfect for relax.

Room Tip: Best rooms are close to the swimming pool.

It was our first time in Egypt so we don't have any comparison, but we've been to several hotels during the past few years so I truly believe that we could make an impression about Dana Beach Hotel. I have previously read all the reviews on tripadvisor and looked out for the best of it, thinking that those people who claimed that the hotel is poor or average are just exaggerating.

Therefore, lets start with the beginning.

We arrived at Dana Beach Hotel at 5 pm, with Tez Tour, and even though our plane landed at 14.30 local time, we managed to make a 2 hour trip to the hotel. People at the reception don't speak English at all. We completed the form we were given in a couple of minutes and before we could put some money into the passport for the bell-boy, the papers were taken from us. The other couples saw this and put 10-20 dollars in the passports and got a room with sea view or a deluxe room. No extra costs. After he gave us the key to our room we gave him 10 dollars and asked for a room closer to the sea, but he told us that standard rooms cannot be found anywhere near the beach. Therefore, with our money taken, we were given a room somewhere in the back - in 1000 building, we have 3 beds instead of 2, no balcony, a window which had a view to the garbage area and ... that was about all. We went back to the reception, gave to the receptionist 20 dollars (besides those 10) and the managed to gave us a room in the 6000 building, which is across 1000 building on the 4th floor. Now we had a balcony and a spectacular view of the resort, and even though we were right near the entrance of the hotel, we said it was ok. The rooms was incredible small, we almost did not have the space to put our luggage, but then again, we said it was fine as we were tired and not in the mood for a quarell - which would have been interesting as no one speaks elementary English.

The resort was 80% Germans and 20% Russians - we spoke to no one for 8 days. The personnel spoke to you in deutsch or russian and of course, do not speak english at all. We were annoyed for that fact that you cannot go to the bar and ask for something or take one for yourself as the personnel will come and take your glass or cup from your hands and bring it to your table. That would have been ok if I could have a conversation with them and tell them what I would like to drink and it would take them a small amount of time to bring it to the table. But asking them for mineral water instead of soda was a long trip. I don't drink alcohol so I cannot express myself on the drinks, but my boyfriend said the drinks were ok - especially the Stella beer and the red wine. Stella beer was served in bottle. The wine could be drunk in bottle of glass.

The soft drinks are pretty good - you can drink them from the machines or you can ask the bartender to give them bottled. They have Cola at 1litre, Fanta the same, orange juice and peach juice in carton boxes, which are pretty good.

The food is dull. Completely dull. They reheat everything and many dish courses and not entirely cooked. They make cookies and cakes only on Thursday and those are for the whole week. I saw chefs bringing at the restaurants cakes from which people have eaten slices, covered with plastic foil and were put on the buffet table with no shame. The cream is some cakes was so hard you could barely eat it. And it had a certain smell and texture of "old". The same thing also happens to vegetable - all cut vegetable are put in the bowls for several days until they get oxidized and drain out.

The best restaurants to eat are L'Asiatique and Don Camillo (italian restaurant). In the morning, the only place you can get a fresh orange juice is Le clef de l'orient. The sausages from the breakfast are being cooked for dinner in the dish course and so on. I didn't manage to eat almost anything except tomatoes and they local white cheese (which is lovely) in the main restaurants. In l'asiatique and don camillo there is very good food. The waiters ask your every couple of minutes if everything is okay and if you want anything else, which is extremely annoying as you cannot enjoy your meal or speak with another person. I understand this is a 5* star hotel, but if I need something, I can ask you, you don't need to nag me every 2 minutes.

The beach is extremely nice. You can find a place to stay even at 12 pm, but I recommend to stay near the beach bear and not close to the sea, as it is very windy. The water was very warm and you can walk for about 400 metres in the knee-length water. You can do snorkelling where the water gets a little deep or in the head of the ponton and it is pretty amazing. You don't need to pay 30$ for a 2 hour trip by boat in order to do snorkelling. The beach bar is opened from 10 am until 18 pm and serves all kind of drinks and has a 2 hour break for serving meal.

The animation team does not exist. You have only 4 or 5 people who are almost bored to death. And I can understand them - given the fact that the average is somewhere about 45 years, there is not much animation you can do. But they don't have a proper stage for evening show - they don't have any evening shows at all. Even the mini-disco for kids played the same songs for 7 days. Really?

The staff is not that friendly to you if you don't tip them. Maybe because the germans and the russians always tip them for everything - bring the sun bed 1 eur, bring 1 beer 1 eur, bring a bottle of wine 1 eur and so on. They assume you are german or russian and when you try to say something in english they roll the eyes, speak in arabic and is very hard to understand.

Enough with the cons, therefore the pros:
The place is spotless clean. Is very big - 181.000 sm but is well maintained. Cleaning service in room is ok - they put us water and 1 or 2 :)) soft drinks in the minibar. You can sit and relax for 7-14 days and enjoy the sun. There are not many kids so it is quiet most of times - but if you stay on the beach or in the big pool you will be harassed by those wanting to sell you anything - mani/pedi, massage, safari trip, boat trip, scuba, snorkelling, camel and so on. I think we had almost 8 people per day of this kind. They are not allowed to go in the pool from the Castello restaurant so its a tip :)
The beach is very nice - it has a fine sand. The sun beds are comfortable, the umbrella is very big and you get a large ashtray. Many people smoke - including germans, which was good for us, as we are two avid smokers and could smoke almost everywhere, except the indoor restaurants.

All in all, it is a bit expensive for what is has to offer. But if you a German in your late 50's or 60's or 70's it is an oasis of everything you could ever want. If you tip the staff they will even carry your bag up to the beach, bring you sun beds, water, beer, anything you like.

If you want something more, I advise you to go to resorts where you can find other people than German and Russians and look for a little bit of action/entertainment/anything.

Room Tip: Tip the bell boy. If you don't tip the bell boy as soon as you get there, you will get a small r...
