“Great again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Second visit to this hotel - just as good as i remember!
Staff very helpful, food good, service in restaurant and bars very good.
Swimming pools very clean and enough shade for everyone
Only niggle really is that you can be hassled by people trying to sell you trips etc when you are trying to relax during the day. Tip: get yourself a red flag!

The resort is very nice, relaxing and interesting for kids, the room is very clean and comfortable.
food is very good especially the snacks.
the best thing is that u don't need to go far from the hotel area for anything, even shopping , u can go to bazaar shops just in front of the hotel gate or go to senzo mall by shuttle bus from the other side.

I have just returned from a week at this resort with a friend. As a whole I was very impressed but there were a few issues unfortunately. We found the best way to have a problem resolved was to go directly to the guest service centre as the staff didn't seem able to resolve issues themselves. To be fair this occasionally was due to the language barrier but the reception staff speak English very well.

There is plenty of choice of food but due to the different nationalities the hotel has to cater for we rarely found anything we wanted to eat. We managed to get into the Italian restaurant (after a confusing mix up when we were booked into a restaurant down the road instead of one of the restaurants in the hotel). The meal was lovely but an upset stomach did follow!

In general though this hotel is lovely. The rooms are kept very clean and my bed was very comfy (I was in a twin room and my friend had a very firm double bed so might be worth requesting a twin room). The air con worked very well and despite being in block 9 which is near the entertainment and right by the kids pool the room was very quiet and I was never disturbed by any noise. The pool areas and gardens are kept immaculately and are lit up by lanterns at night which is lovely to walk through.

The staff were all very friendly and almost always said hello and good morning as well as trying out a few cockney expressions they have picked up which was very funny. The only shop I would recommend going to in the hotel is the small one in the main building at the bottom of the stairs by the restaurant. The man in there was lovely and even let me hold his pet turtle! I made purchases in the other two shops but left feeling ripped off. When you are by the pool staff keep coming round trying to tempt you to the beauty centre or the spa which was very irritating. There is the option of putting up a red flag but we spent most of our time by the adult only pool and they only came round there a couple of times a day. A firm no thank you usually got the message across. I would recommend this hotel due to the cleanliness, beautiful grounds and the excellent staff and would definitely consider returning in the future.

Room Tip: My twin bed was very comfortable and not as firm as my friend's double. If you want a sea view r...

My partner & I have recently returned from a 1-week stay at this hotel and we had very mixed feelings. We went independently, so did not book through a tour operator. Flew EasyJet, can't rate them enough, thought both flights were excellent, efficient and the staff very friendly and helpful (I'm actually in shock that I am writing that!).

From customs to our taxi took approximately 10minutes, not sure going to the bank on the left helps, there was a massive queue so we went to the booths (simples!).

I've been to Hurgharda before (4 times, Egypt 16 times), but I couldn't help thinking what a dump it has become in the daylight, looks better at night!

At the hotel check-in was a little slow, but we were greeted with a drink and a slightly efficient, slightly unfriendly 'Guest Services Rep' although he did warm a little after a while. The 'Bell Boy' was friendly and chatty and on arrival to our room, was good to point out all the amenities. We were given a 'Sea View' room on the ground floor.... you had to walk about 10 paces outside of the room and there in the distance was the sea! 1st impression was not great!

The room itself was:-
- A Reasonable size
- Large, slight overly firm bed
- A tiny weeny little safe (not big enough for a laptop - be warned)
- Clean & tidy, however the bathroom was in need of a bit of renovation
- In room TV, we gave up! There are a few English speaking channels, however the reception on it was lousy and we couldn't catch up with BBC World news.
- NO Wifi!

Service
Overall it was OK. Some staff were friendly and happy to help, however this usually came at the cost of a couple of $’s. Most seemed a little fed up, but perhaps this came from repeated shouting at from the not so friendly & harsh Russians.

I did have a run in with the management at the hotel after a miss communication regarding a local guest we paid to come and have dinner with us (ie my brother, he lives in Hurghada). In fairness the Manager dealt with the situation quickly and politely.

Food & Beverages
If you like to drink spirits (whisky, gin, vodka etc), take your own duty free with you! We tasted all of them, trying to get to one that was palatable and in conclusion resulted in tucking into our duty free (they don’t serve tonic water) and the local beer (which is quite nice).

Regarding the food! On entry to the ‘All Inclusive Buffet’ there looks to be a great selection of foods. Lots of breads, fruit, salads, various hot meals (including pasta & various eggs in the morning), soups and desserts. Unfortunately it is either over cooked, over seasoned or over dilled (yup they have a love of dill!) We only really ate in the ‘Buffet’ restaurant 3 times at the beginning of our stay (at which point my partner became extremely ill and spent 2 days in the bathroom, not a result of dehydration as I have never known him drink so much water). Lunch we would have by the pool where they make fresh pizza, this was OK but you have a choice of cheese, tomato and ham (which isn’t actually ham, being a Muslim country).

We did try several times to book into the ‘A la Carte’ restaurants, however this turned out to be mission impossible. Bookings were taken in the ‘Guest Services’ area on a booking screen between 12am – 12pm. There was always a queue, would be fully booked by the morning and who wants to book a table at 3am! Note to the management, why do you not do 2 sittings?

Amenities
Several large pools to choice from, including an ‘Adult Only’ pool which I have to say, remained an Adult Only pool. The Animations team were friendly and helpful and seemed to give the kids a really good time. They have evening entertainment every night on the main patio (the Tom Jones take off was hysterical) and they also have an amphitheatre, although we didn’t go here.

Beach, was a little busy, sea a bit murky (mainly as the sand is like silt). If you want to snorkel out on the ‘House Reef’ do so at your own peril. I’m a seasoned Scuba Diver and I didn’t even risk it. It’s quite windy, so you get a bit of a swell from the main sea.

The beach bar, well stank! Sitting round it was fine, but having to go up and order something was terrible. I can only describe it as smelling like a Glastonbury portaloo!

Overall, thought the hotel and amenities were nice. Food & drinks poor. Service OK. Location, too far out of town (20min taxi ride).

Tips
DON’T go to the shops over the road, total rip off, you will pay 4x the price. Much easier to negotiate with the guy in the shop on site.
DON’T get a taxi on the street outside. A taxi from the taxi desk in reception will cost you about 40LE one way + the cars are well maintained & air conditioned. For locals it costs 25LE one way
DON’T join the crowd at dinner times. Dinner is at 7pm and its like someone releasing a horde of locusts! We found it was better to go between 7:30-8pm as the food had been refreshed, there were still tables available and you can avoid the hordes.

DO tip the staff, it doesn’t cost a lot, but the increase in service levels is dramatic and worth it – you can avoid the queues for food/beverages.
DO book a Sea View room, you might not see the sea, but you are away from the hustle and bustle, so can sit on your balcony at night with out having to listen to Euro-trash.
DO purchase a local dongle if you need internet access. You can’t get it in your room, only on the main patio and this is intermittent. It doesn’t cost much about £3 for 10GB. A must if you need to stay in touch with people at home or your business.
DO wake up at 3am to book the A la Carte restaurants

Room Tip: DON’T go to the shops over the road, total rip off, you will pay 4x the price. Much easier to negot...

Dear Mrs. Clare,

Thank you for your review and having the time to share your comments. We are happy that you enjoyed the warm welcoming, and regarding to the negative comment about the English TV channels it must be 4 channels but we can check if we can implement the CNN news channel, only alcoholic local drinks are available but the tonic is now available, because it was a problem with the transportation for the tonic in most hotels and it is solved now.
about the a la carte reservation the hotel management is already working on this issue to find better solution and Guest Service Center team is following all guests requests on spot.
we are looking forward to your next visits in the near future where you can see the improvement and we hope that your next stay will be much better than previous.

Best Regards,
Hotel Management.

this is 7th time to this resort . it is really wonderful , fantastic and one of the most beautiful resort on the red sea . you find what you have paid for in this resort . you will never regret to go there . they are very profitional and they know what the guest need exactly . the resort has wonderful beach . you will enjoy siting on the beach bar . if you want to feel calm there you"ll find it and if you want to feel lively and active you will find it too . so it gives you what you want .
one of the advantages of this hotel is that you can go or enter the hotel directly next to garden beach called al mamlouk palace and has wonderful landscape and swimming pool . you can eat there also so it makes you feel that you tried two resorts in the same trip . the resort always clean and if you look at the floor you feel like you look at mirror :) . and i would thank Mr.sameh reception manager for the big effort he did for helping us and make us feel satisfied he is really a very good man and loves his work and care much about the place . and thanks too for miss . marcelia for being nice with us . but i only have one request from the resort management please you have to change all the televisions in the rooms you have to renew it .

Our 6th time to this hotel and I'm afraid the hotel rooms are now looking tired they need up dating ie lighting, bathrooms and fittings.all the staff are still excellent ,they now have a new animation team at the hotel the do lots off activities during the day and put a show on most nights.( hello kano ) the a la carte restaurants are all worth a visit at garden beach and all so mamlouk next door. We are returning in October but we are going to stay in the crystal bay hotel next door to the mamlouk which is a 5 star and you can still use all the facilities at the other 2 hotels which we are happy about because we have many friends at both hotels. If anybody has any questions please post on TripAdvisor and I will answer them.
