“5 Star I don't think so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

This hotel was sold to us as a 5 star hotel by Teletex Holidays, we enjoyed our weeks stay but!!!
The Staff in the hotel are definately 5 star, nothing was too much trouble for them in any department.
We ate in the Italian restaurant for the entire week and it was first class both food and service although I must say the young female waitress has a bit of attitude but this was more than compensated for by the 2 chaps they were excellent.
Breakfast is another matter the choices are diabolical and this desperately needs improving.
Terek our waiter in the lobby bar was first class - our wine glasses were never empty - well done.
The beaches and snorkling are 4 star.
The building itself is rather tired and could do with an overall make up particularily the guest rooms. We were in room 1137 - the toilet bowl has a large crack running round it. The bath is fairly new but the installation was very poor - no grout around some of the tiles and grout all over the rest of the tiles this could have been done better by someone blindfolded. The two chairs on the balcony almost collapsed when I sat on them and I only weigh 12 stone so they were put to one side and we used the arm chairs from in the room. One of the wardrobe doors is almost off it's hinges and the whole room deperately needs a lick of paint. There were no plugs in either the bath or wash basin so I am afraid that the buildings are only 3 star (just).
However we still enjoyed our stay as it was a break from the english weather although we did have a rain storm which required sand bags at the hotel lobby doors ( sandbags should be CLOTH/HESSIAN BAGS NOT PLASTIC BAGS)
The area itself is heavily under construction but this did not interfere with our break. This hotel is predominately used by Russian visitors so you should be aware you are very much the minority

Room Tip: Outside rooms on the right wing and inside rooms on the left wing have sun on the balcony all day.

I was sold this holiday through 'Holiday Gem's' as a 5 star hotel but 3 is being generous. Dirty toilets, horrible food in main and Italian restaurant. Uninterested staff. Perhaps the worst holiday I have ever had.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

I am going to be honest about our stay, after all this is what trip advisor is all about, but i also want to let you know that i have stayed in many top hotels around the world and middle east, so im basing my points on experience and not just having a moan for the sake of being petty, after all a great holiday is how you make it overall.

I booked this holiday, all inclusive a week before we went on (3rd - 10th Feb) as a surprise for my other half for valentines and in our shortish time together, ive taken her to Paris and Amsterdam, but in her life she has never had a dream holiday or been very far (bless her) so with me traveling a fair bit with work and staying in some great hotels i wanted to her to have a great holiday and experience some of that opulence.

We had a great time overall, but a few gripes about the hotel, which really should have been good considering its rating. 4 star it is definitely not, compared to the European standard of star ratings, i would say that as a comparison to other hotels in Egypt is the only way i can assume they can warrant the rating. A couple we met were staying at the Hilton which is a 5 star, but as they say a 3 star max lol.And they work in a hotel in Mayfair London, need i say more.

Upon arrival early evening i was shown to the desk for check in, filled out a few forms as you do then told to wait until someone comes with our wristbands, ok after half an hour im now getting annoyed and frustrated to be just left hanging and waiting, no offer of a drink or a warm welcome, just left to our own devices.
Eventually we got our wristbands and not shown to our room, but shown the direction in which the room is located, so already my initial impression of 4 star hospitality is more like a 2 star.
I asked for a mid to high room with sea view and in fairness i got that but the double or king size bed had planks of wood sticking out and had those horrible fleecy blanket and sheet style bedding, even a travel lodge have quilts and comfy beds.

Room was ok, clean and overlooked the sea, so had a great view, but an ancient TV and a minibar with 2 bottles of water in it, although you can pay extra to have it filled, no hairdryer and aircon with a temperature that wouldn't adjust, so left it off.
After the first shower the floor was flooded, so had that sorted and we had a couple of cans of coke and fanta with some extra water as an apology i guess.

Time for some food and after a long windy walk towards the main hotel, we came across what we thought was the restaurant we have to eat in most of the week (all inclusive) to be then told, you have to go to the Italian restaurant, at this point im thinking surely we can eat where we want free or not, its my choice... but it became apparent that as the Russians have virtually taken over the place it was better for us Europeans to eat in a waiter service restaurant,
The food was really nice the first night and we had seconds, the local wine and beer left a little to be desired, but tasted slightly better as the night went on. No draught beers and i hate warm beer, wine was very acidic and tasted like paint stripper lol.
The food got gradually worse so no consistency, but did have a nice bbq night, which we had to pay for, but included belly dancer and a guy doing a local folk dance which involved spinning around on the spot for about 20 mins, but an enjoyable evening.

Went to the fish restaurant one night, which had the same food, but did have a dish of fish if required.
Breakfast was a joke really, not even what i would call continental, but as long as you dont mind a long queue for a fried egg or pancake, the other choices are poor attempts at fresh croissants and lots of varying types of pastries, a cereal bar, queue for tea and coffee and wait an age for the crap toaster to toast a round of bread.
Lunch was in the same place as the evening, although a more buffet style help yourself affair. The sign saying potatoes was chips everyday bar one, but a good salad bar, again eat as much as you want.

The hotel lobby bar where the noisy mob of drunk Russians seemed to congregate and queue for drinks was one of two bars to sit, we got a table and had a great drinks waiter, who looked after us all week, lovely guy Eslam and we decided to work our way through the list of cocktails, which pretty much all had rum in apart from one which also had some ouzo in, it seems pot luck on what juice you get served, we asked for orange and got mango, then pineapple, but all good.

There was another venue to drink in, no cocktails and if you don't get in early you won't get a table and we fancied seeing some of the shows on offer, first of all let me just say im in the entertainment industry and ive never laughed so much or been so disappointed in what was described as a show.... everything was the something (pause) SHOW lol, i wont be too hard on the animation team as its obvious they work hard day and night and cannot be judged solely on the evening SHOW but who ever is responsible needs sacking, appalling and lack of continuity was the theme of each show, apart from the Saturday night, which i guess is their welcome show, now that was so much better and i would call that a show, slick, interesting and enjoyable. Im not into someone pretending to sing a song that is clearly all on CD, but hey thats entertainment...apparently.
This will make you laugh though, there were two shows in the week that we were sort of looking forward to seeing and were on at 11:30, instead of the usual showtime at 10pm and as the showtime was approaching and we settled down to watch, we saw lots of people leaving and it dawned on us that they were trying to charge to watch the special show and coming around each table for money, im on all inclusive, im not paying sorry and i guess neither was anyone else as after about 20 mins the room was cleared, empty, so no audience for a show and a hotel lobby bar now packed.
Both nights they tried to charge and the same thing happened, cleared the room, although i felt sorry for the poor cabaret who were about to perform to nobody, i also felt smug in the knowledge that i wasn't the only one who felt the same about having to pay.

Pool area was nice, always a sunbed to get on and the lagoon was good for practicing snorkeling. constant annoyance of sellers though, for a massage or trip out on a boat, these sellers have outlets within the grounds of the hotel and we were lead to believe by the write ups that they only did it for an hour a day, not so.

Wifi...... what a bloody joke that was, you are given the impression that you have free wifi in the lobby and can get wifi in your room, you don't....
There is a nice guy on the first floor of the lobby who will give you wifi for your own tablet or android, or time on the in house computers for a fee,

There is no cash point in the hotel, you have to walk up the driveway to use one there, as you walk past several shops who try to entice you in to spend it, the reception didn't have any small notes (Egyptian pounds) plenty of American Dollars as the Russians and Ukraine's seem to have plenty of, so dont bother taking Egyptian pounds, take dollars or use the cash point out there, you get a much better exchange rate than buying in the UK

We took a couple of trips out, one was snorkeling and the desert safari. Snorkeling, well i would recommend practicing before you go as you are literally thrown in at the deep end and can be scary if you are not used to it, but a great day out in some crystal clear waters.

Best value day out was the desert safari, quad bikes, spider car ( like a beach buggy), camel ride and a trip out into the mountains by 4x4 to see the Bedouins and how they live and survive in the desert, back to a bbq and belly dancer and another guy spinning around on the spot, very enjoyable for all ages.

But i digress, Hurghada is essentially a holiday resort lined with hundreds of hotels and there are no doubt some nice looking hotels, a few seem to be geared up for different nationalities, there are alot of Russian, Ukraine, some can be rude, ignorant and loud and most cant speak English, not that i hold that against them, they don't need to where they live lol.

Front of house staff i didn't find particularly welcoming or helpful, but maybe that's just my view, but all the other staff are friendly, always have a smile for you and felt comfortable being there.

I would go to Hurghada again, probably a different hotel, only because its never the same twice when you go abroad, so its good to have a change, My other half loved it, i felt a little let down by the standard, but my aim was for her to have a great time, which she did..

It was an experience and our first time in Egypt, weather was great for the time of the year albeit a little windy in the evening, but really pleased to get away and sample some of the culture.

Cheers

This was rather good vacation stay with very comfortable hotel and good service. Food was also good. But there is still way to improvement . Hotel was almost full and it seems that management is not ready for that amount of people. For instance, there was lack of spoons in restaurant sometimes. We are lucky we had enough food. There is also difficulty to find free sunbed on the beach. And also there is shortage of beach towels constantly. As a friendly advise for restaurant - to add more fruits in menu. But in general hotel is rather good and worth visiting.

Room Tip: Rooms in buildings 1,2,3 with veiw to sea are more quiet and sunny but only 1st and 2nd floor. But...

Standard room has a double bed, forged furniture with marble or granitic surfaces, mini fridge. The bottom of the bed is not solid, so when you sit on the side – OK, when at the foot – the mattress sinks. The doors open into terrace, which leads to the beach. My advice is to ask for the room to the left side of the lobby (if you look at the sea), because this side is always under the sun so you don’t have walk around the lagoon to get to the sunny side of the beach. All wooden parts of the furniture are old, shabby and loose. Bedclothes were changed once in 9 days; the sheets are old a little bit, but got no stains, which I cannot say about the blankets. There’s not only a shower but a bathtub in the bathroom, which was not cleaned even once as much as a washstand. Near the bathtub there was rusty nail stick out from the floor (I believe it was what’s left from the door stopper) so you have to be very careful. The towel rings are so low that you towel is almost on the floor. As for the towels, they are very old and the threads are coming out all over. There is no hairdryer in the Standard room. The rooms are adjoining and the audibility is very clear, so you wake up in the early morning when people in the next room are dressing up for the early breakfast or just gossip, and later you will enjoy the sounds of flushing sewage when you walk along the corridor. At your arrival there will be 0.5l bottles of water in you room, one per person. Then, as info list says, you can fill those bottles in any cooler of the hotels. So as you see, there’s no bottled water like even in 3* hotels. Beach towels are available in tents on both sides of the lagoon, but you can use only ones that is on the same side that you live.
Main restaurant has a wide variety of food presented as a buffet. Lots of vegetables, meat and garnishes. There are no complaints for pastry at all. Plates and cups are old and chipped though clean. At the same time, the glasses on bar stands are often dirty and can have somebody’s lipstick on the brim.
There is Wi-Fi available in the hotel, but the signal is steady only in the lobby and a little bit around it. The price is 4$ per hour.
It’s a show running every evening in the club, sometimes you should pay for it (so much for All In). Also, you have to pay for the ‘Fish party’ which by the way had no enthusiastic reviews from the people who attended it.
There’s a certified PADI Centre. They say, it has a new owner, so now it doesn’t look good: the equipment and wet suits are old and shabby, and there’s no way you can rent a dive computer. Anyway, one dive day, which includes 2 dives, wet suit and equipment and a lunch will cost you 45$.
SPA, sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi are also available. 5 times of massages with essential oils will cost you 100$.
Most of the guests of the hotels are Russian and Ukrainian, only about 5-10% of the other nations.
In general, this hotel leaves average impression, which is not close to ‘4+*’ in Ukrainian and 5* in Russian catalogs.
My rating is a 3+*

Room Tip: Rooms to the left side of the lobby (if you look at the sea) is better in winter, because this side...
