We booked this hotel on a late deal for seven days half-board. Transfer from the airport to the hotel and check-in was smooth, quick and efficient. Our hotel rep, Samry, was very helpful and had a sense of humour. The hotel is conveniently located about 10 minutes from the airport.
Room service were polite, generally helpful and friendly. Most staff speak english. Our room was clean and very spacious. One minor fault was that the bathroom shower was not working on our night of arrival. This was fixed on the following day, but did take a few calls to chase up. The room was cleaned thoroughly every day. We also had a lovely pool side view from our room.
There is a wide selection of food at breakfast and in the evening buffet. Pool-side dinners and those in the hotel's smaller restaurants are much quieter, romantic and away from the hustle of the two main dining halls - Mahara and Marrakech. There are also a-la-carte restuarants inside the hotel and just outside the hotel. Drinks are not included with half-board and we thought slightly overpriced at 20LE (£2.30) for an orange juice and 190LE for a bottle of local wine (£21), although wine. There are more reasonably priced bars just outside the hotel. There are a number of pool-side snack-bars in the hotel for lunch and are reasonably priced. Buffet and a-la-carte food was a reasonable standard, though slightly salty for our liking. The selection and freshness of salads was particularly good. Vegetarians are well catered for.
The hotel has two large pools with free sunbeds, towels and pool-side service. There are also a couple of smaller pools. Guests can also use the beach at the sister hotel (Grand Hotel) across the road, though facilities are noticably older and more standard at the sister hotel. The beach has water-sports including diving excursions (not included with hotel).
There are a number of souvenir shops and bars just outside the hotel. There is a supermarket just opposite the entrance where prices are fixed, very reasonable and read by bar-code at the till, e.g. 3LE for a can of chilled coke, 2LE for a 1.5l bottle of water. The hotel asks that you do not bring drinks purchased from outside onto its premises, but staff are reasonably relaxed if you do. Be wary of stores were prices are not labelled. Store-keepers have a tendency to ask where you are from and overprice by as much as three times if you say you are from the UK.
The hotel is about 15 minutes form the centre of Hurghada and the new marina. Cost to gte there by taxi is 15LE and by bus from 2LE. There are local tour shops which offer excursions to Cairo and Luxor. These are about half the price of the hotel tours but be wary of travelling with them without being happy about how much time you will have at each site and time with the tour guide. We got a raw deal on a day-trip tour we booked to Luxor with Shahin Tours for 350LE each although they later acknowledged the poor service and gave us a small refund.
Overall, we had a fabulous holiday with excellent hospitality. The area is now very commercial with the local economy driven primarily by tourism. We loved staying in the hotel, lounging by the pools and food. We least liked the tenacity of the street traders, particularly in the down-town district (if you venture that far) although most will remain friendly if you politely move on. We would definitely go back and recommend this hotel to friends.
