“Excellent Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

I only have excellent thing to say about this Hotel. The courtesy of the staff and the excellent views and the Cleanliness of the rooms. Myself and my wife stayed here for one week. We has a problem with the shower and they moved us with no hassle. Then my wife didn't like the view of the new room she wanted to stay in the old room. They then upgraded us from the 2nd floor to the 4th queen size bed the works and the view was even better. Also we didn't eat meat so they catered for us very well. Would definitely go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: south side better views

We stayed in this hotel for a total of 7 nights. To make it short, if you get a great deal (we met people who paid € 350 incl. flight for a week) this hotel might be an option. But if you expect a bit more, you will be disappointed.

The room is ok, clean but old. No coffee maker in the room and a single small bottle of water - that's it. Food is ok but variety is very limited. The hotel does not offer doggy bags. Staff is overall not friendly but you do find nice people there too. The reception staff is arrogant and incapable to answer a straight forward question.

The all-inclusive is very limited and only available from 10am till 24pm. The bars are on regular basis out of glasses. It is not allowed to take drinks with you into your room (!!!). Prices for not included beverages are high and here is the best thing... you are NOT ALLOWED to buy drinks or food outside and bring it back to the hotel (!!!).

The free internet is available (theoretically) only in one bar. If you want to use it, wake up either really early or stay up very late. For most of the time, either it was not at all possible to use the internet or the connection was so slow that it was unusable.

This place will never see me again. Not even close to a 5* Hotel and I rather pay more in the future and enjoy my holiday.

Where do I start???? As previously stated by other reviewer's, AVOID!! Not as advertised - you will be extremely disappointed.

On arrival (around 20.30 Friday 23rd Aug), after checking in we headed to the Mahara buffet restaurant. First impression's, we were not impressed.

The hot food, located on either side of restaurant, was served in large silver tray's with extremely heavy lid's. After the food was cooked/prepared they lay in the tray's steaming. This was extremely dangerous & could easily burn yourself.

The cold food selection was displayed on the centre island's & uncovered! My husband who was a health & safety / food hygiene officer was appalled that the food was not refrigerated /on cold plates & "open to the element's". He flatly, refused to eat there except breakfast in which he had 2 fried eggs & toast every morning!!

The serving spoons/utensil's were left on a plate in front of each dish covered with food & not routinely cleaned. Yoghurt's & creamy sauce's were forming skin's & fruit such as melon & apple's were turning brown!! With optional extra's of the flies!!!!

The "choice" & quality of the food was extremely poor & mainly inedible which is not surprising as it did not look appetising at all.

The room was not adequately ventilated & had a number of flies around.

We had eaten at the restaurant for dinner on 2 night's only, however, on both occasions we all ate spaghetti bolognase as this was the most palatable. We only ate at this restaurant for breakfast as we knew that the toast & made-to-order omelettes were passable. Although, we did notice that some of the previous dinner's menu was on the breakfast menu!!!! Overcooked & dry sliced beef from dinner was deep-fried for breakfast???!! Fried potatoes - re-fried for breakfast!! (although these were fried & then steamed in the serving tray's)!!

The children's buffet area was a good idea, although too young for my 9yr old daughter, if it edible food!!! Nothing different from the "adult" buffet - poor quality food, overcooked /steamed & served in the same large, silver tray's which we were too heavy & dangerous for adult's!

Fortunately, we were offered to eat in the Nigma & Mediterranean restaurant where the food & service were slightly better than the Mahara.

The waiting staff were lazy & initially too interactive with us. Two waiter's especially would not leave our table whilst we were eating telling joke's & trying to be funny even though it was difficult to understand them. They outstayed their welcome for several minutes watching us eat. We had to be quite firm with them in saying we wanted to eat & could they leave us!!

Our table was never cleared of plates. My 9yr old daughter ended up placing the plates on nearby tables as the waiters passed but did not collect.

They were not busy & had plenty staff due to the low occupancy of the hotel.

Lastly, regarding this restaurant & staff, my daughter was asked twice by a waiter for her email address. She told me this & asked why a man would want this. I spoke to the waiter & he replied "so we can talk everyday"!!!!!! I was astounded as to his brashness & totally inappropriate behaviour.

The hotel amenities were non-existent. The main bar in the Orange Club was dark, dated & very unappealing. It's bar was even less so - no display's apart from a couple of spirit bottles & the soft drink & coffee dispenser taking up space on the small bar. The AI snack area in this bar consisted of a hot water dispenser, a few cups, handful of teabags & a side plate of small biscuit's! The milk had to be requested from the Orange Bar if you were lucky to find a bar person. Again, nothing covered nor replenished.

The non-existent entertainment was a body-odoured challenged DJ! Although, it appeared he changed his clothes his personal hygiene had not. His repertoire was very limited & dated. This started around 20.30ish & was soon tedious so we went to bed.

On a couple of night's there was an Egyptian dancer with a belly dancer & the other night was a "dancer with a snake"? Amateurish & uninspiring.

Furthermore, with regard to entertainment there was no evidence of the Kids Club. I asked the Sea Holiday's representative & he was unaware, however, he stated there may be one across the road at The Grand Hotel!!!

We visited there but could not find one & asked the receptionist at the Grand Hotel & he stated there was not one running! Even the water park/chutes on the beach was closed. Therefore, we were left with a very bored & unhappy 9yr old for our week's stay.

Although, there were not the volume of client's due to the disturbances in Egypt, facilities for those client's that had paid & were still willing to travel to Egypt should be provided.

Overall, we were fairly happy with our hotel room's although, again dated & could do with a refit. The floor tile's in our bedroom were loose & rattled when trod upon. The television was very old with a few UK channels but mainly German focused. The bathroom needed a deep clean, dirt between tiles & in corners of room. The basin was cracked & tap was temperamental. No light in shower once curtain was pulled so fairly dark.

The balcony furniture was dated & faded. The wicker style chairs were tatty & uncomfortable. The balcony itself had crumbly concrete & cracks & paint work needed attention. The outside light had been removed & the wires left exposed.

By the Wednesday, we had requested to see the Manager as we were uphappy as the week progressed. We spoke with Elliot & relayed our concern's including the attitude & behaviour of staff. He agreed that we should be spoken to respectfully & not sniggered at or spoken about especially in front of us. We experienced this on a number of occasions in both the Orange Bar & Mahara restaurant. Staff were in abundance & any request we had i.e. clearing our table, more teabag's, etc, should not have been met with a disdainful look, snigger or "what"!!! We felt the staff more favoured the German clientele as they did not seem to want for anything & nothing was too much for them.

Our issue with the poor food quality, variety & serving area's was met with "thank you for your suggestion's".

Elliot agreed that the point's we raised & there were many more regarding the staff which are too numerous to mention, (being told not to take a cup of coffee up to the room, being told to wake up a member of our group & move sunbed's, not to take drink's from the Orange Bar to reception, etc) was unacceptable. He said he welcomed our comment's & would relay them to the relevant department Manager's.

The following day, we had the repeat performance at the Mahara restaurant with the staff. We spoke to the Executive chef & pointed out about our table & service. He stated that he had sight of the email & called staff over to clear our table. He then said "is this better?" !!

Later that day, the General Manager was at reception & called my sister & my husband over to speak with him. He stated that we had a good night the night before in the Nigma restaurant ( he had come to the restaurant without our knowledge) & that we are having a good time now!!! We stated we had already told Elliot that we did not have a problem with the Nigma restaurant & this was the only place we received good food & service. He stated that the relevant staff would be "punished"!! This was not our intention only proper & adequate training was required. He was not interested in any other of our comment's & we were duly "dismissed".

The Grand Resort is NOT a 5* hotel rather a 3* maximum. The overall experience was a poorly run & dated establishment. The food & staff were one of the same - poor quality, poor variety & left a bad taste & one never to be repeated.

We have holidayed in Sharm-el-Sheikh & have never experienced any problem's with both food & staff quality.

To say we are disappointed is an understatement. We had paid in good faith (not a discounted/cheap holiday) & expected a relaxing & carefree holiday which we did not get. Holiday's are expensive & are looked forward to - this experience (not holiday) we would rather forget. We have "wasted" our holiday & money on something that was not sold as advertised/offered.

We are currently waiting for a reply from Red Sea Holiday's & 2TemptU ...............

I cannot emphasis enough - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS HOTEL.

Room Tip: Room's 1217 & 1218 overlooking Oasis pool - near Pergola entrance - good position as you do...

My Wife and I Stayed at the Grand resort on the 30th of August for a week. Overall a really great time. The benefit at the moment unless the German and Russian Foreign office have had a change of heart is that the place is extremely quite, so if you want a sun bed without fighting for it etc now is the time to go. The pools are some of the best we have seen especialy the one around the Pool bar The Food was superb with a massive range that would cater for anyones appetite, yes the service was a little slow to get a Drink but ive had a lot worse in the Uk and lets be fair you are on Holiday - What's the rush ! A tip: Take plenty of £1.00 coins for the tips you will be obliged to give, it will make a great deal of difference around the pool, to the guy cleaning your room, and waiters etc. We enjoyed it that much that we would go back and for the price it's great value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the lagoon pool. You will get the sun 1st thing and it's a lovely vi...

This hotel needs to go on holiday watch dog!! As they claim it's a 5* hotel doesn't even come close may be a 3* I will just say to any one who is thinking of going stay away they have no food very poor run out of drinks they want you to pay!! Hygiene they don't even know what that is!! The manager of the hotel I's a con-artist this hotel could be a really nice hotel 1st he needs to replaced with some one who cares about his guests! He couldn't even run a bar let alone a hotel of this size!!! Air con doesn't work we had 4 rooms wifi doesn't work no beach you have to use a 3* one across the road and that is the worst hotel I have seen in my life just please stay well away until they get this sorted out you will thank me there were mice in the main restaurant it goes on and on!!! Worst week of my life and will NEVA return to Egypt it's a shame because Egypt and most of the people Are lovely!!!!!!!!!! It is run down and all they are interested in is your money even tho you have paid to go all inclusive!! I am taking action against this hotel and Red Sea holidays don't be fooled by the pics in the broucer and how's it says they have all them restaurants and bars you can only eat at 2 of them with 3 things on menu every night

My boyfriend and I visited The Grand Resort for a week from the 30th Aug to the 6th Sept. We found the hotel to be quiet due to current political status, many locals mentioned how quiet it was (particularly as no many europeans were not permitted to fly out). This did not spoil our holiday as it felt more ‘exclusive’ – we didn’t have to fight for sun loungers, or wait days for a reservation at the a la carte restaurants.
Room - the hotel room was lovely, we opted for a standard suite (we felt no need to upgrade to deluxe as we had planned to spend most of our time out on the beach or around the pool) – the bed was huge, the room was clean and pleasantly decorated.
Staff – the hotel staff were great, really polite and helpful, however the majority spoke Arabic and German, and only a little English. Despite this, we managed to get by and this was not a detriment to the service they offered so please do not be put off by this.
Food – We went all inclusive. A continental breakfast was available each morning and there was also the choice of omelettes, eggs and sausages. For lunch there was a choice to dine at the BBQ area (The Waterfront), this comprised of barbecued meats and a buffet salad, or a burger and chips lunch at the Island Bar – this served chicken kebabs, shawarma and fish burgers which were also delicious! For dinner there was a large selection available at the buffet ‘Mahara’ restaurant each night as well as a choice of two al a carte restaurants.
We ate at each once during our stay – The Nigma was the better of the two, serving an authentic Egyptian menu of falafel, humus, lentil soup and a fish or kebab main. The Med served us tomato soup and fish and chips.
Resort – The pools were fantastic, lagoon-like, with many palm trees dotted around. Oasis is the bigger pool and where we spent the majority of our time soaking up the sun (and booze - the island Bar was situated there).
Inside, the hotel is grand – marble flooring, loads of ornaments – a lot of attention to detail! The only part that felt a bit drab was Club Orange (the 24 hr disco/bar) but we didn’t spend much time in there.
The beach is located over the road at the Grand Hotel – literally a 2-3 minute walk – and it was fantastic, lots of windbreaks, loungers and the sea is wonderful! Our time on the beach was made better by the fact it was quiet.
Outside the hotel grounds there is a strip of shops – we did our last minute souvenir shopping here and although we received some hassle from the shop keepers, it was a fairly pleasant experience.
At the beach and even round the pool there are many people offering massage and beauty treatments but this wasn’t a bother as a simple ‘no, I’m not interested’ would generally work and they’d go away.
Other than eating, sleeping and soaking up the rays – there is not much else to do around the resort so we booked three excursions with our Red Sea Holiday reps and were delighted with our experiences. The first was the Badawaya Safari Adventure which involved quad-biking, camel-riding, spider buggies, lunch then a belly dance show (we paid around £55 GBP each).
We then opted to do an introductory diving course – this was fantastic! We saw the wonders of the ocean from just 6m below sea level – this is definitely a must for those interested! (We paid about £70 GBP each).
Lastly, we went to the Jungle Aqua Park – this was good fun but no way worth the money we paid (£36 each). So bypass this or get it cheaper if possible.
I would not hesitate booking here. We had a magical holiday.
ps: it is must to book a Cleopatra spa package with the spa on-site - £35 and well worth it!

We had a good stay at the resort. We decided to pay for the deluxe room upgrade and were pleased with the room - a very large double bed, a balcony overlooking the pool and a clean bathroom. The rooms were cleaned every day by very polite staff and both bath and beach towels were replaced every day if we wanted.
We went half board for our holiday and this was a little confusing at times, but perfectly adequate for the week. If you have the opportunity to go all inclusive for little more, take it. There is not very much out and about in Hurghada and the half board is breakfast and an evening meal (you can't opt for lunch instead). There were certain bars where ONLY all inclusives could eat and drink, and certain bars / places where everyone (including all ins) had to pay. Take some time to study the guidance notes and by day three you may have figured out who can order and eat where! Our tip for dining in the restaurants (whether half or all in) - find your table first and order your drinks before going and getting your food. The drinks service was slow and we had often almost finished our dinner before our drinks had arrived. We were however pleasantly surprised by the choice of food for evening meals and always found something tasty to eat. Another tip is also to book early at the a la carte restaurants - medeterana and the traditional egyptian restaurant. Book early though as we had to wait three days to get a table there!
The pools were indeed the highlight of the hotel - there were two large pools plus a kid's pool and even when arriving around midday, we still managed to get two loungers together. You do get sold to from the occasional hotel employee trying to promote a massage or henna tattoo, but this wasn't really a problem. If you fancy a massage it is worth getting a package - then you can negotiate on the price a little.
Hurghada itself was quiet and had a feel of a deserted party town at times. There were a lot of shops on the strip, but few tourists. If you want a week or two of relaxation and doing nothing in good surroundings with alright facilities, then this is the place for you. If however you want a little more action, go to Sharm instead.
