“Luxurious holiday resort with only few issues”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

I'm writing this review while still on our 3-week stay at the Grand Resort, and here's our main findings:

Room service:
They have three different visits to rooms on a daily basis: one for restocking the minibar in the mornings, one for cleaning the room around mid-day and one for changing the beach towels in the evening. Tip: if you don't want to get woken up before 9am for the minibar restocking, put the "do not disturb" sign on your door before going to sleep. Also, we noticed that tipping the cleaner had a big impact on the quality of the work, so the few euros per week were definitely well spent.

The restaurants:
We had the half-board option, and the food was generally very good at all the restaurants. You can surely find enough to eat at the buffet-restaurants for all kinds of diets. We visited the Mediterraneo ala carte restaurant few times, and although the food was great, you quickly run out of the options that are included in the half-board option. Tip: try to visit the breakfast and dinner buffets as early as possible. We found that the food is more fresh and simply tastes better then.

Places to visit around the hotel:
Our favourite establishment was definitely the Candy Bar (located right outside the resort, on the right-hand side in the Grand Mall). It serves very cheap drinks and waterpipe, and has a free wi-fi for their customers (through which I'm also wiritng this review now). There is also an Internet-cafe next door, but usually the quality of the connection is the same everywhere so I wouldn't pay extra for it. The sports bar on the left-hand side of the Grand Mall is also nice for the sports fans, although the drinks over there cost almost triple compared to Candy Bar.
For shopping, the Cleopatra Bazar about 1km on the right-hand side and the Siva Mall about 1,5km on the left-hand side of the resort are very good options for cheap, fixed-price souvenir and clothes shopping.

Beach and pools:
Are simply awesome! The pool boys assist in arrangng your towels and the umbrellas, and the pools at the resort are probably the best in Hurghada (even compared to Hilton and other much more expensive options). They also have enough sunbeds everywhere, so there's no need to reserve them (this is also not officially allowed by the rules of the hotel). The beach can be found by walking through the sister hotel, The Grand Hotel. You can also find various sport activities at the beach.

The drinks issue:
As stated already by many others, the drinks are not included during the dinners, and you have to order them from the waiters. The drinks at the resort are the same all over, and ridiculously expensive: they charge prices that are 3-10 times more expensive than in the next-door supermarkets (also on the right-hand side of the Grand Mall). You are not officially allowed to bring your own drinks and food to the Grand Resort. However, the doormen are not enforcing this too heavily, so you can make your your own conclusions what to do with the drinking water etc. The shop and bar owners know this, and usually help you in hiding the groceries in your bags.

The guests at the resort:
Most of the guests are Germans, and we also found the best price through a German travel agency (last minute 3-week half-board stay inclusive of flights for a little over 500€ per person). Besides the Germans, the rest are mixed between Nordics, British and Russians, but be prepared to get approached in German by all the staff at the resort, as it is clearly the main language there.

So all in all, The Grand Resort is 100% recommendable for an affordable, luxurious and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: We had a room with a street view on a 4th floor, and this proved to be very good option for us. The...

This was my 3rd visit to Grand Resort since 1999. The hotel is still very well maintenaned.
Pools are clean. 1 big pool for adults and 1 small pool for kids were heated.

Try Mediterannean a-la-carte restaurant - it's FREE for HB guests. Though the choice in free menu is not really mind-blowing, all the dishes are nicely done. I bet you try finger-licking Hot Calamari Appetizer and Fish Fillet "Cote-d'Azur". In all oulets around resort service is quick and efficient.

Special thanks to Mr. Erwin R. Popov, the General Manager, for excellent VIP-customer approach, room-upgrade and fresh fruit baskets.

Also thanks to Ms. Galina Aleksandrova, Guest Relations Supervisor, she delivers quick and professional customer's support and always provides a helpful info about hotel features.

Overall, my stay at the GR was splendid. Would I go back again? Definitely!

We've been to egypt several times and stayed 2 times at this hotel.

When you get there the first time (normally at night) you may use the hotel complex map to find your room (could be tricky).

Since it is so hot in egypt we always just book half-board because you won't be able to eat a lot for lunch. the pool bar provides snacks during the day, so thats a good choice if you are getting hungry.

There is one big buffet restaurant and a smaller buffet restaurant where you can eat. There is a "rush hour" sometimes where anyone goes to eat - so better you choose to eat a bit later than the rest. You can choose from various egyptian, italien, asian buffets - there is just for everybody something to eat! However - the quality of the smaller buffet restaurant is better. We always chose this one. Outside the hotel (but still hotel complex) is also another snack bar where you can smoke shisha plus an italian restaurant > the pizzas are very good!

the normal double room provides a balcony and is very spacious. the cleaning service is very good. there is also a mini bar in the room.

The Grand Resort is not directly on the beach - you will need to cross the street and use the beach of the sister hotel "Grand Hotel". So far no problem. the beach is Ok - there is also a beach restaurant and they provide snacks to go.

The Grand Resort is not directly in the center of Hurghada. But you can catch a taxi to get there (Sheraton Road) - about 5USD. You MUST negociate the price BEFORE you get in the taxi, otherwise you pay too much or it leads to long discussions. The center (Sheraton Road) has nice bars to sit and smoke shisha, some bazars and tourist shops, mc donalds... the new marina has several, good restaurants if you want to eat outside the hotel. Also there is a ministry of sound in Hurghada and some other discoteques. Its safe at night - never had problems.

We'd highly recommend you (if the political situation allows it) to visit cairo or luxor!
The hotel provides 1-2 day trips > please choose those! > there are locals who provide tours like that as well but they use mini buses... The official tours cross the desert in armed convoys. the mini buses dont do that, they literally avoid the checkpoints! Please for your safety - use the tours provided by the hotel!

It's a nice hotel providing good value for money, even during the New Year holidays the prices were affordable. The hotel is clearly not new but still pleasant and clean. I also liked the a la carte restaurant, the food was really tasty, the food in others was ok but not great.
Advantages include:
- nice bed in the deluxe room;
- the room was spacious;
- nice view;
- nice territory and pools;
- the nearby beach;
- the staff was ok.
The downsides were the location, the hotel is far from the city centre; and paying for every cup of tea or coffee. We were on FB but I never expected to pay for tea or coffee during lunch or dinner, it's not that much but leaves an unpleasant impression.
Besides there is no Wi-Fi which is also disappointing.

Room Tip: I followed the advice to get a deluxe room and never regretted. It was very comfortable and the pric...

I stayed with my friend in the hotel a week ago and the hotel grounds and the rooms are lovely. Bed was really, really comfortable to sleep on and hotel is quiet, no noise in the evenings or nights.

Service was in overall good but the staff was sometimes a bit slow and difficult to understand. Probably their lack of english caused that problem. Room cleaner boy you "must" tip if wanting to get good and clean service. Otherwise we did not tip the staff.

Heated pool was enough and the beach was just opposite the street, system works well.

A few big minuses:
- you are not allowed to bring beverages or food into the hotel, including water. They were reasoning it with hygiene reasons but in reality it is just a rip off as a water bottle in the hotel costs 15 LE and just outside the hotel 2 LE.
- We had a half board and the breakfast was mediocre at its best. Croissants were dry and the fruits were boring (majority of time just apples, 2 days we had tangerines and bananas). Yogurts were nice. Water in breakfast you had to buy separately. Breads were good, excluding pastries and croissants did not touch the warm breakfast bit as at dinnertime you get enough fat.

Dinner buffet was plentiful but really salty and salads were too oily. Meat and aubergine salads were nice. I gained weight in one week 3 kilos. I also managed to get diarrhea from there (just ate in the hotel, no where else). They could do more healthy options. Dessert table was a real disappointment. Cakes looked delicious but all tasteless and dry. I tried once and that was enough. My friend tried them in all 7 days and said they were same s..t every day.

I recommend the hotel to all who wish to have a lovely, relaxing 5 star accommodation but truly recommend to eat outside the hotel, food is not worth it unfortunately.

Hotel located in new hurghada so not much to do or see in the area directly by the hotel. Easy to get a taxi to sheraton street for 15 EGP.

Huge hotell, can be e bit tricky to find ones way around it at first. Many guards and plenty of staff to help. Good service and helpfull staff, but slow if one do not tip them. All pre bookings are to be made one day in advance, not more, not less.

Big room with very comfortable bed and nice balcony. Be sure to choose room with a view over poolarea and garden oterwise you will only see/hear construction areas. The whole hotel is very worn down, well cleaned but many small things are broken. Exeptionally nice garden and poolarea! A bit too few sun beds by the heated pool in the winter. At our visit 1 pool was 16 degrees, 1 was 28 degrees, 1 pool closed for construction and kids pool closed. Lovely beach towels and a bag to borrow is included in the room.
Minibar is not expensive, it is rather more expensive to buy a beer at the bar and bring to the room than to take one from the minibar. Room is cleaned, new towels and refilled minibar every day if wanted,oterwise just tell your room mantainence guy or put the "do not disturbe" at the door if you dont want service every day. Laundry service. Security box free of charge at the room.

Half board - 3 restaurants are included, but be aware that you have to pay for drinks and in the restaurant mediterraneo only a few selected meals are included in half board (no meat), check the last page in the menu! one have to pay for the rest. Food is mainly tasteless but plenty to choose from at the buffet at breakfast and dinner, so no need to go hungry.

One have to cross the road and go thru Grand Hotel to get to the ocean. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free of charge but "bellboys" will take your bags and towels for you and show you to a sun bed and expect a tip for it.

Room Tip: choose room wit view over garden and pool area

The Grand Resort is very good. Nice rooms, nice area and good service, (tips not mandatory). Food absolut ok. Just walk over the front road into the Grand and you are at the Red Sea beach. Sun beds is for free, well you payed it at your agency, the men att the beach grabs your bag and take you to the sunbed you want and puts out the towels, tips yeep. But even here you can be cheated. My wife ordered a non alcoholic drink named jhhhhphfd6sod or so but was charged for the alcoholic one. BUT.. if you go outside the resorts areas....... I just say be very very carefull, absolutly not regarding crime but in the aspect of being cheated. One week and this is the cheating list, well they tried, taxi-change money, dutyfree shop exchange rates, Mall shops vodka turned into water (thought that was thousens of years ago and the other way), the above beach drink, Prices in minimarkets changed from day to day, (NASDAQ??) BUT (number 2) If you can handle that... Its a nice place!

Room Tip: Choose the minisuites it´s wourth the money. Give the cleaninga guy tip the first day. Well spent mo...
