“Overall excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

We have just returned from a week at the Sunrise and would definitely return. Firstly the animation team were brilliant really friendly and always asking if we were O.K and if we had any problems they could help with. Top of the class was Bob what a lovely man, then there was Kersha & Gigi always nice and chatty. As for the hotel don't expect the same star rating standards as Britain but having said that the room and hotel was very clean and comfortable. Food is as some people have said is a little bit limited but there is always something that is to your liking and we never heard of anyone having a dodgy stomach. The beer was very drinkable and the soft drinks were branded Pepsi, sprite etc. Service in the bar areas is waiter service which is very unusual for all inclusive. Look out for Omar serving on the 4th and 5th floor bar area, very good most times the drinks turn up before we could ask for them. The beach area with the lagoon was lovely which made taking a dip easy and safe. Also keep your eye for a turtle that sometimes make an appearance between 07:30 to 09:00 wonderful to see, and certainly makes the hotel stand out from the rest. The hotel management staff were always around asking if there were any problems and if we were happy, which was lovely, Met some lovely people some of whom return year after year and I think we can happily say we will be amongst those who do this now as we had a very enjoyable holiday. One of our best

Room Tip: We stayed in room 307 big balcony with 2 chairs a table and a lounger

Visited for a week with a female friend. We both have travelled separately with our husbands previously to Egypt and enjoyed it and so felt comfortable visiting on our own. However from the moment we landed until we got back on the plane we both found the men extremely familiar and sometimes downright rude. Even with wedding rings on we were constantly made suggestive remarks and even from staff at hotel and trips through our rep. I would definitely not go to Egypt again without a man and when we have travelled to other Muslim countries such as Morocco and Tunisia have never accounted this
The hotel itself was comfortable, it does need some TLC as a bit scruffy. The end of the first week they were rolling out the free Wifi in the lobby with some difficulty which will be a big plus as we kept having to go to other bars to use it for free. The food was very good for Egypt I would say. The lagoon was lovely and great for snorkelling for beginners before venturing into the sea. We did the boat trip from the hotel which was great value for the money and well recommended. We also did a dolphin safari with our rep which was an adventure to say the least. Although we were given a sea sickness tablet on arrival I really didn't think it would be so rough. An hour and a half hour away from mainland we came across the dolphins. I would say it's an excursion if you are quite confident in the water as the boat does tend to drop and leave you out there . I wouldn't have brought my children on it as definitely would have been a nervous wreck.
Overall we did have a relaxing hotel as we tried to not let the persistent men ruin it for us. But if we had been young female travellers it might of put us off such a lovely country

Just returned from an 11 night break. The hotel is a bit tired looking in places but it is excellent value for money.
Rooms are very nice although on arrival our bathroom was flooded but credit to the staff they did sort us a temporary room whilst we waited for another to become available a day later.
Good variety of food.
Hotel very clean
Staff really friendly.
Hotel not really lively enough for us. Very good if you are collecting your pensions.
Mohammed the rep. What a lovely guy.
A special thank you to nahed the lobby bar waitress. She is absolutley amazing and made us feel very welcome. Always has a smile for everyone. Purchased a pair of earings as a special thank u for her. Hope u liked them.

We have just come back from our 4th stay at the Sunrise (the 3rd this year) We arrived back to be welcomed home and it certainly does feel like home, the views from the hotel are breath taking, the food is delicious and all of the staff are fantastic and do their best to please you.
On an evening we have been highly amused by the annimation team Kersha, Browne, Mido and Bob and have thouroughly enjoyed the shows especially the comedy show Keep up the good work guys

Room Tip: Sea view floor 4 upwards to get the benefit of the view

Before I start.. i work in the travel industry, I travel abroad and around the UK a lot. This hotel is a bit of a conundrum to me. First the excellent points.

1. Food if this could be awarded 6* I would- I would defy anyone to find a problem with the food at this hotel - the choice is outstanding and of a very high quality. The restraunt staff work very hard and are more than polite and seem to really enjoy their jobs. we also tried the special sea food meal which was more than worth the little extra for lobster and cavier. Try all the outlets they have something for everyone and the Egypt Nights are delicious. Try the Om Ali - it is a hot dessert, may not look great but wow it is amazing. If it wasnt for the diet we would have had some every night.

2. The rooms are spotless. I have never known staff to work so hard and nothing is too much trouble. Beds comfy with lots of pillows and space. Tea and coffee in room (if not when you arrive just ask). Several English channels on the TV. Bathrooms again spotless and the towels nice and soft. The room staff always ask if they can do anything else for you - def a 5* service!

3. Location , great on its own manmade beach just a short walk from the town - do go into town and visit the shops there.

4. Entertainment - mixed some of the team are fabulous and I must make mention of Kersha who is a credit to the hotel, genuinely friendly and makes a massive effort to all guests. In general this team work bloody hard and are always visable. They are let down by a couple of members of the team though.

5. Do go on the tropicanna snorkelling trip (dont go with the rep) it is cheaper and a much better day - excellent and well worth the money.

Now the downsides:

Some people may find it funny, but I do not enjoy the male members of the animation team impersonating accents or how you speak. Neither do I enjoy the clearly drunk russian member of the team making snide remarks about myself and my partner whilst speaking to other russians (next time dear make sure the person your slagging off doesnt speak russian). Nor was I pleased to here one member of the team tell someone that the trip I had been on with the hotel had less insurance and safety than one booked through the resort rep.

The shops in the hotel are far too expensive - go down town and save a fortune.

As I said a fantastic hotel with a few rough edges.. Well worth the money. Book with an independent though and save some money.

Room Tip: Sea View floor 3 - it is ideal to get about the hotel and reach all the facillities easily.
