Just got back from a weeks holiday,we had a great time.The hotel is very clean,all the staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble,some of the rooms could do with some new furniture,but was kept spotlessly clean,The food was very good plenty of choice,we never had a bad meal something for everyone,The pool was very clean and lovely and warm plenty of lounges and windbreakers if you wanted one,The barman MAHAMOUD was fantastic very friendly and always bringing us great cocktails,...The entertainment was out of this world very very good entertaining round the pool during the day playing games and having fun and at night they put on a show every night in the jungle bar which stayed open till 2.We all had a great time and would stay here again......

Stayed in this hotel for a week for my Mums 50th birthday, went with the all inclusive option... Below are the positives and negatives of the hotel;

Location - real good location, a short walk from a busy road with lots of shops, Mcdonalds and the usual shops
Beach - Private beach which was nice, and like a lagoon, was nice getting sun beds outside our room which was on the ground floor, just odd with the sun, as the sun changes direction the shade does too
Food and drinks - I enjoyed the food, good variety and to suit different tastes, non alcoholic drinks were good, the usual, lots of bottled water which was nice too.
Tv in the room - We didnt go on holiday to watch tv, but every evening on the tv at 9pm a good English movie was on, was nice just chilling in the room watching a film
Adult only hotel - A nice touch, no screaming/crying kids

Negatives;

Staff - Were okay, some were rude, some never smiled, some didnt like it when ordering drinks and they had to do some work, Management seemed friendly though
Spa - pathetic and a joke, paid a lot for a hamaam and massage, was rubbish, Mum didnt like hers either, dont be fooled by the discount they offer you on the beach, its a joke
Room - Small, very small! No way 5 star more like 3 star - when did a 5 star hotel have a single bed?, but clean however we had issues with our shower, kept over flowing and leaking all over the floor, we reported it so many times to the hotel reception but were always ignored, and they did nothing but then finally half fixed it two days before we were going to leave
Charge for wifi - A 5 star hotel in Egypt charging for wifi is a joke, not even in the lobby... Not 5 star at all!
Lifts - One was out of order the other one was real slow


I wouldnt ever go back to Egypt, nor would I ever go back to this hotel...

I enjoyed my stay at SHR.
Food/restaurants - the variety of food was great and the food itself very well prepaired. As well it was very good that there were more than couple restaraunts where you were able to eat. It did not get repetitive and boring.
Stuff - Alltought on our arrival there was a missunderstanding with the rooms, the stuff was always smiling and helpful when needed. The roomservice was fun too: everyday there was an interesting animal from towels made on the bed making us smile even more.
Animation Team - all day every day were like on Duracel batteries: running, smiling, communicating, entertaining, organizing activities etc.
Room - Our room, suite, was to the street side, with a balcony, sixth floor. Alltought the view was not so fantastic at it would have been if it would have been on the sea, it was still interesting. The room was greate and had all the nessesary comforts.
All the holiday - it was an incredibly relaxing and best holiday in a long time for me. Full of positively charged people, smiles, relaxing and geting to know new culture.
Plus the weather was excellent!

At best, the Sunrise Holidays Resort is distinctly average.

Our first impressions from when my wife and I checked in at the lobby were that the hotel was tired-looking. This theme continued into our room. Whilst we were on the top floor which gave us a good view of the sea, the room is in serious need of modernisation. We decided to give things a chance and hoped that, although it looked fairly old, it might be one of those places that turned out to have some character. As it turned out, Sunrise Holidays Resort is shabby without the chic. Examples of the sorry state of affairs include old tiles and grotty grouting, cling film wrapped around the vents in the ceiling in the bathroom and a hole around the door handle to the bathroom.

This theme continues in the bars and the restaurants. The food is average and the menus have no imagination. Granted you won't starve, but the offering does not inspire you to try something new and different. No matter what the theme of the evening in the El Sol or the Arabian restaurants, at least 90% of the food was the same for lunch and dinner - rice, boiled vegetables, very dry meat, chips, etc. Strangely enough, there wasn't a falafel in sight all week, even on the Lebanese evening!!!

Despite all of that, our main purpose in visiting Hurghada was to escape from the sub-zero UK temperatures and get some sun but with a relatively short flight from home (5 hours). Whilst we realise that you get what you pay for, there are some basic standards that one absolutely expects. Primarily these relate to food hygiene and customer service.

In terms of food, we were at the Tex Mex evening (nothing really Texan or Mexican about the menu) at the El Sol. There was a chicken station and a chef dropped a piece of chicken on the floor and picked it up and put it back on the grill!!! We asked to see the head chef who, to his credit, immediately apologised. But then, after speaking to the culprit, he said that he had thrown the piece in the garbage. We told him this was not the case and is unacceptable in a food establishment. He could do nothing other than apologise, although it obviously left a bad taste in our mouths and put us off our bland dinner.

All in all, the weather was great but the establishment poor. We were unable to reconcile the 5-star rave reviews for this place with our experience. Unfortunately, this has made us wary of giving too much credence to the reviews which have usually been very accurate in the past.
