“Would love to go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

An excellent stay. Nice clean rooms and excellent breakfast. The view of the sea from the room was superb. It had lots of activities for both adults and kids. The staff was very nice and friendly. It has a private beach which was not very crowded.

Why come to Hurghada? The weather - always sunny - and the beautiful transparent sea are the main reason, so you might as well have direct access to the beach. This hotel has a sandy beach directly in front of it. It is not too far from the airport; supposed to be central but there is nothing going on nearby. However there is a small supermarket very close and some shops and restaurant a bit further.
I suggest going for half board because the dinner buffet was really worth it, and the restaurants in the street didn't seem appealing.
There is free wifi (limited time per day) only at the café next to the pool.
Another tip: if you want to book a boat trip like Giftun, don't hesitate to ask a tourist shop in the street. The price offered by the guy at the hotel was almost 3 times higher and the trip ended up being postponed because not enough people signed up.

The best time to go is October to December. End of November it was 20 to 28°C outside and water was about 24°C, still warm enough for snorkelling without wet suits.

Room Tip: Most rooms face East (sea) but if don't want the sun in the morning you can ask for a room facin...

We stayed in the Mariott apartments for 3 days. It was a last minute decision to go to Hurghada as well during our stay in Egypt and we picked the apartments because they were amazingly cheap for what they are. When we arrived, we were not disappointed at all. At the check-in desk everybody gets a non-alcoholic welcome coctail drink, that is very yummy. The apartment was very big for the two of us with a huge balcony. Although we stayed in the apartments and not the main hotel, we could use all the facilities of the hotel. It has a very nice private beach that has a small island as well. The water is very clear and has an amazing colour.
We got a wellness treatment in the spa (that is not free if u just want to try it out:S ) and it was very nice also. The stuff is quite friendly...I would recommend it to everybody and if we come back one day to Hurghada, for sure we will have the same choice!

My wife and I had some very relaxing days in this Hotel.
The Hotel itself is nice, the sorrounding area rather not. Very nice artificial island.
All staff were very friendly and serviceable.
Especially Magdy in the Buffet Restaurant was always very friendly, ready to help and kind.
He's certainly one of the reasons that will make us remember our stay with fondness.

Room Tip: not 6th floor - it's way too loud

I stay at the hotel for just one night, so I can't realy jugde the whole hotel. They try to keep it up to the standard of Marriott, but the hotel and the rooms are a bit run down. They need to be refreshed.
The breakfast is OK, but as Marriott is normaly know for, but there is what you need. I only drink a cup of tea and eat a slice of bread.
All in one a good beach hotel, the staff try there best to give a good service although it seem that there welcome greetings is somekind of welcome speach they must stay - no personal touch.

Room:
Spacious and well maintained. A but a bit worn and dated, but convenient. Safety box easy and free. Minibar. Two big comfy (a bit on the hard side) beds with good pillows(one hard and one softer) and blankets (scandinavians often prefer this type when going to warmer climate). We did not need to use the AC, but it worked well. Well cleaned, spotlessly done by a serviceminded maid everyday, even if he often forgot to give us new hand towels or cloths some days. Nice balcony with two plastic chairs and a table, but we had room facing the fountain-garden that has little sun and some noise from the waterfountains. We were three adults in our room, but it did not feel cramped. Satisfactory with power outlets in the room. Light proof curtains give a pleasant sleep quality. Low water pressure in the sink, but good in the shower. The toilet and the shower/bathtub is in time for replacing I think. Both had broken or/and lose elements. Enough of light in bathroom and room, with several mirrors. For the price we paid (ca 650 EGP/night for 3 persons incl. taxes & breakfast one week) we found it acceptable, althought it is not a five star resort worthy.

Hotel:
The hotel itself is situated outside city centre. Good for a relaxing and not stressful holiday. The con is that you need taxi wherever you want to go, t.ex. if you want to eat outside the hotel. We had problems finding good restaurants with the standard we felt safe to eat at, but we googled a lot and found some. The hotels italian restaurant has good (and PRICEY!) food, but has a limited menu, and no pizza, lasagna or bruschetta, so we only ate there twice.

Fast check-in, but because they had charged us for two persons, even if we were three, we had to come back and pay twice... Not a big problem, but unnecessary.

Breakfast was superb. Not much meat to have on your bread, but much else. Fruits, yoghurts, juices, egg station, jam, pastries, varied sorts of bread+++ and attentive waitresses. Nice breakfast area with view to the sea and a terrasse to enjoy your morning coffee.

Service overall is good, but be warned about some things. You will feel everyone(not especially in the hotel, but also in the whole city) wants your money. You have to pay for whatever you ask for and not ask for. It is not a good feeling on a holiday. My advices are:
-Avoid the hotel's taxi service!!! It is VERY pricey compared to the official taxis in Hurghada that is situated outside the hotel(black and orange in color). But the worst is the bad service. Even if we said no thanks many times to their offer, they guided us out to their car, and we did not feel we had any choice. We should to Pizza Hut/KFC in Village Road and they sent us to any dirty place in Sakkala even if we protested to the driver many times during the journey, and said it was wrong direction. We should the direction to Hard Rock Cafe. He rather called the hotel than hearing on us, so we decided to go back to the hotel, and take an official taxi instead. Funny enough we had to pay the hotels taxi driver 30 EGP for the trip. The local ones take 10-15 EGP to Sakala in a like or better car...
-The spa-lady is veeeery fussy, even if she is smiling. She do not take a NO for a no. The massages are PRICEY too.
-The beauty salon is not very skilled. I just had to laugh at the extremely poor hair trimmer that did not cut my hair short. After 15 min my headskin was so sore that I had to say it was enough now. 120 EGP for the job is more than I pay home in pricey Norway, haha...

The wifi internet in-room at the hotel is HORRIBLE and RIDICULOUS priced. What can I say... When thinking on it again, I laugh just more. They charge ca 150 EGP for a day and ca 750 EGP for a week. And this is just for one device!!! Home in pricey Norway I pay ca 350 EGP for a month to comparision:-) My sincere advice to Marriott: Make the wifi in-room free! If I had knew the costs before I booked, I had choosen another hotel. Free wifi in-room, or a reasonable low price, is a important criteria for many Europeans when choosing a hotel for their holiday.

At the Marrnet Cafe you will get free wifi-passwords that work for two hours in the cafe-area. Satisfactory internetspeed althought not superfast. They who work there is attentive, serviceminded and friendly, especially Mahmoud does a great job. They give you passwords if you ask for, you do not need to buy anything, but they serve ok coffee and sandwiches.

The hotel public area is well maintained and nice with enough and pleasant sunbeds for us in December. Nice little private beach, and a island. Good availability for persons with mobility problems. Serviceminded bar and cafe workers. Water in the sea was nice althought a bit cold for my liking in December:-P The pool area was also fine but the water could maybe be cleaned better.

Hurghada as a holiday destination was ok, with good stable weather, but I think this was my first and last visit to Egypt. You get tired when you all the time must handle all the visible and invisible fussy sellers that look at you as a walking wallet. Yes, I am Norwegian and on holiday, but I am NOT rich! I did not feel 100% safe outside the hotel area. Tip for area with several restaurants: New Marina! Sakkala also have many, but the atmosphere s very hustle'n bustle there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool, then you will get sun on your balcony during the day and you avoid t...

As I was only at the resort as a day guest and then one overnight after the liveaboard diving holiday, the hotel was fine for my needs. The staff were excellent, all friendly and helpful, especially the young man and woman at the coffee shop who helped with access to the free wifi (VERY VERY useful).

The breakfast was vast of course. I really liked the sheltered beach area. The decor and standard was fine, for me, not 5 star (especially the beds), but perfectly adequate.
