Returned from the Mercure on the 27/05/13. We have to say that the standard of service from ALL the staff was the best we have ever experienced. Immediately greeted by the management team with a lovely fresh fruit cocktail,painless check-in followed before being shown to our large double balcony room with all the modern facilities you would expect including a lovely walk in shower room, tv with sound that could be played in bathroom or shower, free room safe " Although it never felt like it was needed".
The Hotel has a modern upmarket look and has a genuine luxury feel, we are beach people but the pool was lovely and spotless, sun beds were always available no matter what time of the day it was with a pool side bar for snacks, ice cream, beer and soft drinks from 10 am onwards, with great friendly service again.
The main Restaurant is very well laid out and combines an inside or outside dining experience which you can choose as you wish and sit anywhere there was a table free. Service again was excellent, I do have to be honest and say the food was slightly plain for my taste and a bit repetitive, but I feel harsh saying this as its only my opinion. There are however lots of lovely fresh salads and a choice of soups at lunch and dinner & lots of lovely fresh fruit everyday. The hotel uses only branded soft drinks Coca-Cola, Fanta etc, fresh chilled drinking water, and if you enjoy a G&T it's Schweppes tonic, the local beer is perfectly acceptable " but no fear of a hangover"
Red, Rose & White wine with meals. We also dined in the Oriental restaurant which was very nice and makes a pleasant change, impeccable service yet again, with more food than you can eat.
The Entertainment team work tirelessly to interact with the guests and put on activities all day and a show at 9pm which we went to every-night. " when was the last time you went on holiday and didn't get fed up with the entertainment?" You never get harassed by them to join in, if they don't genuinely enjoy there work then they are the best actors I have ever seen, and they love kids too! We were up on the stage on the second night for what I describe as " it's a knockout " with couples from Russia and Germany, being Brits they seem to know we were up for it and all the tricks were played on me, if you we're there you will know what I mean.
The Beach is just how I like it, lots of sand plenty of sunbeds with brilliant shade and with temp in excess of 40 degrees you need it, the water is lovely and warm and clear which is perfect for snorkelling, the coral is breathtaking and the sealife is unforgettable " I have never seen better anywhere " PERFECT
To sum up, the whole experience was superb, I would recommend the Mercure at Hurghada to everyone, if you want a lovely SAFE modern hotel with great staff and service then come here, I can't thank the staff and management team enough they all were SUPERB.

One Observation I do want to share with people arriving over the summer are the beach activity company FUN-FLY " Not part of the Mercure set up" they sell a beach trip experience via boat that lasts lasts seven hours and costs 75 euros for 2, do yourself a favour and don't go. They take you to a totally uninspiring island called "PARADISE" it's NOT, it's a "DUSTBOWL" out at sea which I renamed " BOTTLE CAP ISLAND" you can guess why, the promise of Dolphins never materialised even though they said " There were 17 yesterday" blah blah. Food on board was OK no better and drinks were in short supply, we were filmed and photographed throughout the trip for the eventual hard sell of your day on the boat priced at 20 euros for the photos and 20 euros for the DVD, or 35 for both, we were duped and bought the package, being assured that both would be on the disc we were given. When we got home the pictures are average and surprise surprise NO VIDEO.
Basically we were ripped off, but you will obviously make up your own mind, I think the selling practices of this outfit should be looked at by the Manager of the Hotel. " RANT OVER"

We regret the boat trip DVD case; the aqua sports, excursions and some other activities are not managed by the hotel but the quality of service remain under our supervision, as we do not tolerate such incidents as soon as I did read your review I have conducted a serious investigation and we finally managed to find a new copy of the video which will be sent to you by mail.
