“Empty hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Just returned from Sunwing Waterworld after spending one week here with family. Beautiful hotel if a bit rough around the edges, which is a shame as its supposedly quite newly built. The staff are absolutely brilliant especially the two at Finos (Shem in particular). Unfortunately, due to it being so empty because of the current climate in Egypt several restaurants were closed during our week. Apparently they said it was only 6% occupancy. It made us feel as if we were getting a half service but we had actually gone and were paying full price. On the plus side it meant that we had the whole beach to ourselves and no problem getting a cabana by the pool. (cabanas are such a nice touch). The reef is wonderful, so many beautiful fish swimming up to you and we even swam with a big sea turtle. Magical. The Makadi Mall restaurants are, in our opinion, not even worth booking, especially when the guy you book with at 3pm each day gets it wrong! He was the one person we didn't like. Unlike other reviews we could book for anytime we wanted though not sure if it was because of lack of people. The buffet is ok and you're never going to starve. Funny how the people who complained there are the ones feeding their kids chips or pasta every day. The afternoon crepes and waffles are delicious, especially with the mango ice cream. All in all it was what it was - an all inclusive at a much cheaper price than elsewhere. Sunshine and blue skies every day and we got to learn Arabic too. Red Sea Resorts were very helpful from the start and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you're thinking of going to Egypt.

Room Tip: Away from the children's watermark is quieter but handy if you're travelling with little one...

We have just returned from 2weeks we arrived 29th July and left 14th aug. what can I say regards this hotel well we had such a fab time we are already looking at booking to go back next year. The staff on arrival were friendly and took our cases off us to go to the room. Our children loved the rain Forrest waterpark and the pools, it was definitely kids heaven. There was plenty of different kinds of food for all the family we had lunch most days at the tropical bar which did burgers spaghetti Bol fish and chips salads the staff here were amazing and brilliant with the children especial Ahmed. On an evening we visited sun and sea a couple of times they did different theme nights you could just help yourself, we also went to the BBQ where they prepared kebabs which all came with rice and chips. Then their was the a la carte restaurants finos Mediterranean, Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, German and Mexican these you had to book for And had to do this in reception at 3pm everyday you could book between 7pm and 930 with us having children we managed to get booked normally 7 or 730pm. I would definitely recommend visiting this as the food was amazing and the mall was a nice quaint place to eat with entertainment for the children they had different movies playing each night. The pool staff couldn't do enough for you, tip them £1 and drinks are on the tap Ali and Mohammed were so good with the children too. The lime bar, show bar and African bar were other places we spent our evenings with beautiful cocktails. Would I recommend this hotel to other friends and family 100% yes. We met some nice friends whilst we were there and the kids were in heaven so overall this was a fantastic holiday for us and will definitely return. All the staff at the sunwing made us feel very welcome and at home. Thanks again the spencer family xxxxxxx

Room Tip: Our room was 4021 fab room. Take a club point card with you and leave it in the key card slot as thi...

We have just returned from a weeks holiday there. I absolutely despised the whole experience here from the moment we arrived in the airport.

I have been to Egypt 3 times, Sharm El Sheikh is equally bad, but had a wonderful experience in the Jungle Aqua Park in Hurghada last year and then this resort this year.

Jungle Aqua Park is by far the best. Really friendly staff, clean pools and facilities and all staff spoke english and were fantastic with the kids.

I travelled to this resort as a family of 8, compromising of 5 adults and 3 kids aged 9, 8 and 3 years of age.

We were ripped off at the airport charging us 13 pounds for visa- should be 10!!

Then arrived at the Hotel and waited around for an hour to be shown to our room. The complex is huge and there is no sign posting and we arrived in the evening and there is very little lighting to see where you are going and to get a feel of the awful place.

Reception was very rude and unhelpful and just left us waiting around, kids were tired and wanted to sleep, I was really annoyed at the treatment. It gets worse, we arrive in our room and there's no air-conditioning, after 3 days of no sleep and constant complaining and them doing nothing about it we eventually got moved.

Pools were filthy and staff were rude everywhere, on the grounds and in the restaurants/ dining areas. Food was tasteless and on many occasions raw or burnt and selection was minimal. Kids and I are not fussy haters, but we really struggled to eat here.

Like the last traveller, we also ended up booking one of the restaurants in the sister hotel and had to eat at 6pm (no mention of it anywhere) however heard from other guests that we needed to kick off and ask to see a manager to get a table later otherwise you wouldn't get it at a later time as they managed to achieve.

All entertainment for kids was cancelled as there was 'technical errors' so we had no entertainment for the week and there was nowehere else to go, but later established that we could watch sister hotels entertainments but the receptionist at the sunwing said we would have to pay (he was conning us) so we decided to just go and check it out ourselves as it was entertainment on the beach and established that there was nothing to pay.

I would be extremely careful with the staff and the people there, they attempt to fob you off, lie and steal money from you.

I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially those with families.

I have been on many holidays abroad, Turkey being my favourite, child friendly and lovely people but would never recommend Egypt to anyone!!! Everything is so expensive, and the local shops complete rip you off!

Just completed two weeks here and have to say this was a little disappointing.

You have to have a photographic memory to remember which bar which restaurant to use at certain times and whether they are all inclusive or not at that moment.

Worst still, is it appears the 5/6 other restaurants that form part of the complex with 3 sister hotels is that the Waterworld is the poor relation, you can only get reservation to eat in them at 6pm, before the sun even goes down, really frustrating.

You have to que in the lobby to find this out, even if you are first there having wasted half an hour of your holiday to do so, always the same, fully booked from thereafter.

Then you eat at this ridiculous time and leave a completely empty restaurant, what is the point, will be complaining on return as this was well out of order and no mention made on booking.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

We have just returned from our 1 week stay at the Sunwing. We went as a family group of 8 including 3 children aged 9, 8 and 3.

This holiday was awful from the very start. We arrived at the resort with 3 tired kids and checked in with a receptionist who was unwelcoming and abrupt. After checking in we were expecting to be shown to our room and waited. 10 mins later we were still left waiting ( wasn't busy at reception) so husband had to query where our room was and the reception guy just pointed towards a direction.

Anyway, we eventually managed to get to our room which was ok and reasonably clean it was late in the evening and as the kids were hungry we dumped our belongings and find somewhere to feed the kids. The hotel grounds is SO BADLY lit in the evening, it was very difficult knowing where to head and ensure we didn't bash into things en route. There is NO signposting on the grounds, the complex is huge and you haven't a clue as to where you are going. This was extremely frustrating and tiresome!

Got dinner eventually. Staff are very rude, not helpful, aggressive and don't speak English.

I hated this place, we had no air conditioning in our room for 3 nights and they wouldn't move us at first as they said engineers were fixing the problem. Still no air conditioning in fact they were trying to 'educate' us on how we should use the air conditioning system properly...!!!???

We eventually demanded another room after 3 nights of rubbish chat from them. All staff in this hotel are rude and aggressive and it got worse in the dining areas. Food was bland and the same everyday...everywhere.

Urgghhh, I have complaints for every single day we were there...and I genuinely am not one to moan but this place is horrible. Its so depressing, staff dont give a damn. PoolS were filthy and the slides were rubbish-say the kids!! All kids entertainment was cancelled every evening.

I went jungle aquapark lasty year and HIGHLY recommend it for all whether you're a young person or a family. They were brilliant, facilities, entertainment, food everything. ...loved aquapark but woul never touch this place again. Oh and be careful the staff at sunwing are thieves and attempt to charge u for everything and anything!!!!

The resort is big...! As one person writes: It is quantity instead of quality. 20+ restaurants to choose from and the fact that we got lost the first day gives an impression. It just does not work.

They almost chokolade sauce, they almost make a good burger; they have almost used the correct building materials. There are three made-to-order places at their buffets, which are ok (breakfast and two at dinner)

It seems as the staff has been educated by professionals and hav after that slowly begun to "un-learn" and create ther own procedures. We went only few months after the grand opening, but already: They do not clean, but move dirt around. They use indoor materials for outdoor building, so there is already quite alot of tear.

We have never been on all-inclusive. We visited with 2 kids of age 1 and 4. They seemed to like it alot. Their parents felt a little jailed :)

Hurghada is quite a long way from the exciting sites. We might go again on all-inclusive for the kids, but not at Hurghada.

Me and my partner and 6 year old son stayed in this hotel for 2weeks arriving on the 19th July. I can only echo what the last 2 reviews say, Mexican wasn't mentioned that again is lovely food. The flow rider opened on our 2nd to last day which looked very entertaining mostly men trying to ride the waves thou! I myself found the Russians extremely rude with no manners to staff aswell as other hotel guests. The maintenance staff are very quick throughout the night fixing things, my son cut open his toe on tiles that had come away in the pool by the next day they were all replaced I did make him wear sea shoes throughout the rest of the stay. I would come back again back there is a lack of English people there was a handful during our stay. The complex is huge took us a while to get around we spent a day round each pool there's that much to do. The beach has to be the best I've ever seen the fish are amazing I could see them perfect without googles or snorkelling even the water up to your knees is like a warm bath... Beautiful! I never encounted one rude staff throughout working in the heat they are smiling can't bring you enough drinks, even playing with the kids on the rain fortress. I saw one guy get pushed down the flume by a bunch of kids my son thought it was hilarious. This hotel kepted my son entertained and he loved it if he's happy then I am. The rooms are amazing we asked to be moved so we were closer to the rain fortress for my son our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the fortress and the sea...views were perfect and the staff were happy to move us. You fo need to get up very early to get a sunbed, but if your on the beach the staff will grab a place and beds etc all for you. Don't do it yourself they get upset! Mohamed Badwy speaks English very well and made our holiday that bit special he made us laugh weather he was working on the beach or around the pool, he would play with my son and always make us a special surprise drink... He needs a payrise!!!!
Please dont be put off from the bad reviews.
