“2* experience in 3* hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

We've been to Egypt many times but unfortunately we did not have a positive experience at this hotel. Summary of our main issues:

- When we arrived we had to wait for about half an hour before being allowed to go to our room. After a very long wait for transfer (not the hotel's fault) we really just wanted to collapse. The lack of customer service didn't get things off to the best start.

- When we did get to our room it was lovely. However, unfortunately the shower came off the wall in my hand. It was very obviously broken. I don't know of any other hotels claiming to be 5* that would put their gets in obviously faulty rooms. There was an overhead shower as well but it seemed old and blocked so we just got a very weak trickle of water. We repeatedly asked for it to be fixed but were treated like an annoyance by reception. They kept promising to get it sorted but didn't. To be fair they did eventually say we could change rooms but it seemed such a waste of our holiday time to pack everything back up and spend time moving when they have maintenance staff on site. Something that should have been straightforward was just made difficult and annoying, which seemed to be a theme for this hotel.

- The hotel is quite small so it only had one main restaurant which we had to use for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After a few days this becomes very repetitive. They seem to only play the same two CD’s over and over again which didn’t help matters. The service was awful unfortunately. Most people seemed very unhappy and tired after having to work for long periods. Trying to get a drink was near impossible. You could easily be half way through a meal before you got one. When the drinks did arrive they were often warm and the beer was usually flat. However, the most annoying thing was whilst you were desperately trying to get a drink your plates would be whipped away from you before you’d finished chewing. Removing plates common in Egypt in my experience but I’ve never known it quite so bad anywhere else. I wouldn’t have minded so much if one of the waiters had given us the drinks we had ordered before this happened! We also experienced problems getting a table at the main restaurant on a couple of occasions and were told to wait (in not a particularly nice manner). Again not a great experience. The food generally wasn’t brilliant, quite repetitive, and luke warm at times.

- Probably the most annoying thing about the hotel is that rather than use the wristband system which most all inclusive hotels use, the Premier Romance insist that you sign for every drink you have. This includes water. Whether you be at the restaurant, at the (tiny) pool or at the beach you have to sign. When you’ve paid for all inclusive you have effectively paid for all your drinks in advance. Therefore, I do not understand why you have to be bothered with signing lots of bits of paper every day when you’re trying to relax. Because of the slow water service it also meant that you’re waiting around to sign for a drink you’ve already paid for. For example, you could be at the beach and wait for an hour to be asked whether you want a drink. From there it could take you 30 mins for them to bring it (one day I waited 50 mins for a coke!). Then say you wanted to leave the beach, you might have to queue at the drinks hut and wait for them to find your bit of paper for 10 mins. Not very relaxing!

- Service at the beach was generally poor. I often had to get up and go find someone to ask for a drink of water. Unfortunately there were not enough sun loungers and umbrella’s either. Most days we have to use the cheap plastic sunbeds and three days out of seven we didn’t have an umbrella so I had to go inside out of the sun. The beach is also very cramped so you’re very close to your neighbour. A lot of people seemed to smoke which you can unfortunately be right next to as there is so little space.

- We were told when booking that we could visit three of the on site restaurants. However, the Indian restaurant was closed when we got there. We assume we would therefore be allowed to eat in one of the other restaurants twice. But no, this was not allowed. We asked to be able to pay extra to go to the Italian twice, however, that wasn't allowed either. The hotel was very rigid and inflexible for reasons I couldn’t fathom as we wanted to give them money.

- Generally the information around the hotel was very poor. We found it difficult to work out what the all inclusive package was and were the pool was for example. We also couldn’t get towels when we found the pool. As fair as we were aware there were no snacks available on the all inclusive package whatsoever. Nothing in any of the bars and the ice cream area was closed.

- On our first full day at the hotel we asked whether we could book a late checkout on our day of departure as we had a flight in the evening. This was clearly advertised at reception for a fee. We were told that we had to wait until the day before we were departing to book this. We went back on the morning of the day before we were due to leave and were told that this wasn’t possible as all the rooms were booked. We were told that the room we were in needed to be cleaned for the next arrival. We knew that the new arrivals didn’t come until the evening as we had the previous week. Which meant that the hotel had six and a half hours to clean the room. We had to argue the logic with them and ask that they make an exception for this rule given our generally poor experience and eventually they did and we paid the fee. So again, something that should have been straightforward and easy was made difficult and stressful.

I would never go back to this hotel or to any hotel with the same management. The hotel were aware of many of our issues and were given many opportunities to put things right and yet they never did. We are returning to Egypt this year as we do every year but I would encourage anyone considering this hotel to book somewhere else instead. There are much better experiences to be had.

Dear guest,I did not receive any reports from my head departments that one of our guests at the hotel was suffers from some problems , even at a weekly GM meeting with hotel guests which held every Sunday i am sure i have not met your good self .and to confirm the truth of what i say you can look at our page on the tripadvisor to feel how we treat our guests and how the summit satisfaction of our guests is our primary goal. You received a hotel information sheet upon your arrival and we mentioned that the al a carte restaurants visit is once per stay and the second visit is chargeable 10 euro per person, is it possible to explain to me how i refuse your second visit especially after your offer to pay money for it?finally,Thank you for taking time to post your feedback on tripadvisor and i regret to read that we were not able to meet your expectations.Accordingly i would like to know what could be done in a different way in order to meet your expectations as we would love to welcome you once more in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay, and whilst some of the things georgecharlie says are true, think how much you paid for the holiday !!! The personal service, the guy who cleaned your sunglasses on the beach - the little guy who did most of the work etc (Can't remember his name) whilst Ibrahim did most of the PR stuff !!! The bar staff in particular kept the drinks flowing and the only thing you really need to do was lie back and enjoy !!!

The only thing that was a niggle, was the fact that whilst Nescafe was free, proper coffee was an extra charge... As a result - a lot of the time we drank G&Ts !!!

I would also point out that baksheesh was greatly appreciated by one and all !! Most of the people who were there at the same time as us got upgraded to a deluxe room... Thanks for that

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are sea facingand catch the sun. Superior rooms face the "Garden" - this is...

Just returned from a week at this hotel and it was lovely, but we were dissapointed with the food the buffet was not brilliant the food was never hot, just warm, lots to choose from but we have had better food in other hotels in Egypt. The 2 A LA Carte restaraunts were lovely but on the 2 nights we went there only 2 other tables were occupied,we were told they leave tables empty hoping for people not staying at the hotel to book the tables ! The rooms were very comfortable and clean for the first 3 days, then we had a new cleaner who didn't show the same level of care as the previous cleaner. The beach boys are lovely and really friendly as were most of the staff there was one guy working in the cocktail bar who never stopped smiling but another guy the night before we left sat talking on his mobile we waited for him to come and take our order but he just stayed on his phone so we walked out.We had 4 nights with just luke warm showers and the night before we left the manager came to see the people in the next room to apoligise for this and said they could have a late check out and food and drink up until they checked out the following day which was 3pm. He never came to our room ? so we went to reception and asked for the same as we were leaving at the same time and were told we could only have our room until 2pm which was ok until they tried to charge us for drinks and food after 12am we had to go back to reception to get them to sort this out which they did but maybe communication between department would help in these situations. The spa staff are a bit pushy but if you politely say no you are not interested they will leave you alone. We spoke to one couple who went on the glass bottom boat trip who told us you given fishing rods with barbed hooks and when you catch these fish which they said were beautiful fish the guy rips the hook out of them and throws them in a bucket with no water in it ! and they are left to die !!So we did not go on this trip.It is a hotel that would suit anyone looking for a peacefull relaxing time lying on the beach or round the pool but we would probably not go back.

Dear our Guest , Thank you for reviewing premier romance on the tripadvisor . We are sorry that our buffet did not reach your expectation although we provide a lot of variety , on the other hand we did not receive any comment from our guests in house regarding to the buffet temperature even your good self did not comment about that issue to my food and beverage team .
I am the only hotel which have a food court on the promenade of sahl hashesh resort and we providing all the meals for the out side guest but the priority for the premier romance guest .
And while i was doing a rooms inspection i met the guest you mentioned by chance and i know there leaving next day so i offered them free late check out as the same as you got .

Thank you for staying at Premier Romance and we are looking for the next one.

If you want a some winter sun in a relaxing environment away from any hassle this hotel is a must. The facilities are top notch with hot tub and sauna at the side of the pool, two very good restaurants as an alternative to the excelent food served in the dining room the staff team are fantastic starting with the general manager who could not do enough to make sure all our needs were met including a late check out free of charge, Kareem in the lobby bar was fantastic and always had a smile and a fresh drink in hand, Saber in the dining room made sure we were looked after and showed genuine concern when my wife was having back problems and the lads on the beech were great with a special mention for Ibrahim who was great. Do not book into this area if you are looking to visit bars and restaurants although there was a free shuttle bus into Hurghada which took around 30 minutes.

Room Tip: Rooms that are on the same side as the chinese restaurant get the sun all day on their balconies all...

Stayed jan 11 for 7 days, hotel half full so very laid back. Very clean in all departments. Needs a pool at the front to link to a
beautiful beach with top notch beds. The staff are very friendly and helpful, never had to wait for a drink!
A memorable holiday with great company meet there.
For the money, you won't get better.
Tip first day and then enjoy first class service.

Holiday - 1st week of December 2012.
The first thing that hits you is the personal service on arrival - no waiting at a reception desk - just a drink while the staff complete your registration and then straight to your room. Then the 2nd surprise - the fantastic view overlooking the sea! All rooms are large, neat, modern, very clean .. with a novelty bathroom - one wall is a window into the bedroom: for the shy there is a screen!! The balconies are totally private and sufficiently large to find shaded areas during the day - but a wonderful place to watch the sun go down. Food was great and the staff very attentive and friendly - would recommend the Chinese - limited menu but food is excellent! Just a word of warning - take the all-inclusive as food and drink can be expensive. Our check out was supposed to be 12:00 but the staff allowed us to keep our room until 14:00 and then fed us before the journey back to the airport. A fantastic holiday!

Room Tip: Lower rooms have more shade - but all rooms south facing!

Holiday 1st week in December 2012. We had a very good 7 day holiday in the sun at this quiet hotel on the all-inclusive basis. Overall the hotel was very good, but I will try to detail the issues, although a little annoying certainly didn’t spoil our holiday.

Food: Was good with a reasonable choice; could usually find something you liked, some of the breakfast hot food took too long to be re-filled.

Drinks: On the whole the drinks were very slow, except Karim in the bar by reception, he was brilliant and needs to be rewarded for his excellent service. Don’t bother with the red wine it was very poor quality.

Spa: Didn’t actually use the spa, I wanted to have a massage, but the spa staff, one male in particular, was extremely pushy. He was insistent that I had 4 during my stay, after being harassed on 2 days running as he was not keen for me to have just 1 massage, as a result I had no massage and had to be rude for him to leave us alone. The spa looked nice.

Housekeeping: The housekeeping staff were excellent, very clean room and facilities. We had Mohammed who surprised us most days with towel sculptures on the bed; nothing was too much trouble for him.
Beach: Very quiet and the attendant was good, putting towels on beds for us and finding a suitable place to sit. The snorkelling to the right of the hotel was good and worth making the effort.

General Manager: One night was the Manager’s cocktail night and he arrived and made an effort to speak to everyone and then acknowledged us throughout the week as he was around the hotel regularly. On our last night we went to the coffee bar (not part of the all inclusive) and the General Manager was in there. Again he acknowledged us and spoke to the waiter. When the waiter bought our coffees he confirmed that the GM had arranged for us to keep our rooms free of charge, until we vacated the hotel (extra 2 hours). On our departure we were informed the GM was on his way to wish us a safe journey. Small things, but made all the difference to us.

Overall: The staff are friendly, hotel was very clean and the outside areas also well kept. It was entertainment bartering with the shop workers in the vicinity of the hotel. The issues mentioned above certainly didn't spoil our holiday. I would recommend anyone who wants a quiet, no fuss holiday to go to the Premier Romance.
