“Very good but not perfect, let down by inconsistent service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

The trouble with a hotel that get's such great feedback on Trip Advisor such as this one is that when you go there, your expectations are that much higher! We have just returned from a week at PLR and all in all had a very relaxing stay. We contacted the hotel a couple of weeks before our departure to ask if we could upgrade our room - we thought we'd spoil ourselves and they agreed a rate for us which included a 25% discount for a deluxe room. Our room (1432) was huge with an oversize bed and a lovely bathroom with 'his & hers' sinks and a walk in wardrobe. We were on the 3rd floor with a nice view of the sea & pools. So to start this review on a positive note - this is one of the best all inclusive hotels which we have stayed in for the quality of the food and drinks. I have read other reviews on here about terrible wine and watered down cocktails neither of which we experienced. My husband and I drink wine and spirits often and the drinks at the PLR are definately not watered down - the wine takes a bit of getting used to although the rose is totally fine. The food here is wonderful especially if, like me, you enjoy fresh salads whilst on holiday - such a great choice. The only niggle I had was that not all of the salads were labelled with what they conatined and as a non meat eater, I did get a couple of nasty surprises so was very careful with my selection thereafter. The hotel put on a wonderful 'gala' dinner and the sheer effort with the restaurant set up and table arrangement was really appreciated. We also enjoyed the music on this night and other nights from their resident guitarist, James Kirby - totally right for this kind of environment. As we were staying in a deluxe room we had access to the Executive Lounge bar which we used on a daily basis and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and comfort in there. Special thanks goes to Tamer who looked after us so well in here and made sure our drinks were always replenished without being overpowering - he really is the right employee to have in this bar and we appreciated it. We ate in the chinese restaurant and sea food restaurant whilst we were here, both very good - tried to book in the Italian but it was fully booked for the few nights we tried so gave up. Now for the niggles and do not think that I am nit picking here but as I have said, this hotel seems to pride itself on giving 100% service at all times so it should deliver if it decides this is what it wants to sell itself on. The hotel offer a drinks service by the pool area and beach. As we were unable to get sunloungers by the pool most mornings (plenty of towel reserving going on which is not meant to be allowed but we witnessed it with staff doing the reserving!) we ended up on the beach every day which was just as nice. We were impressed by staff asking for our drink orders but having asked for a coffee on one morning and 1.5 hours later, nothing had arrived - we gave up, went for a swim and got it ourselves. The next day however, we were asked for our order and it arrived not only in superfast time of 15 mins but also with a bowl of fruit!! This was the norm for the rest of our hols, either superfast service or slow to the point of giving up. The same applied most days to our lunch and dinner in the main restuarant - it just wasn't consistent. We were given a form in our bedroom which asked us our preffered time of day to have our room cleaned so we put between 10am-1pm - most days we returned to our room by 3pm and it had only just been finished and one time the guys were still in it cleaning (this was at 3.30pm) so they asked us to go away and come back in 30 minutes. A bit like the 'turn down' service in the evening - it happened once with lovely little choccies on our pillows and towel art but only once - it never happened again although we did leave our 'do not disturb' light on for a couple of evenings. This all sounds like being really picky if you haven't been to this hotel but if you have, you will probably agree that it can be really annoying to not get the level of service which they offer around to other guests. I'd rather they didn't offer the service so as not to set my expectation levels and then I wouldn't be disapointed!! The manager of the hotel, Fouquet Zakaria is visable most days and we were impressed by his walking around the hotel checking that everyone was happy with everything. We did speak to him about our concerns and niggles and to give him justice, he did listen and make note of our comments. Just a couple of other things to add - there is absolutley nothing near the hotel except some of the biggest hotels of the size only ever seen by us in Las Vegas (!) that are currently being built - this area is set to change dramatically over the years. You can't make direct access to the beach from the section outside the hotel because of the coral reef which is fine as the hotel has built a jetty ( see photos) although we found the bit of beach a walk along the shoreline to be nicer. Getting in and out of Hurghada airport is hassle. Upon arrival it is chaos especially if more than one flight comes in at the same time as everyone is trying to buy their visas and fill out their forms - upon leaving, more forms have to be filled out and several security checks to go through. Also having read reviews about cramped conditions upon the Thomson flight, our outbound wasn't too bad but the return flight was horrendous. I'm 5ft 8 and my knees was squashed up against the seat infront - the return flight to LGW was nearly 6 hours and I now have returned from my holiday with sciatica as a result. So to sum up - yes, we have had a lovely relaxing holiday at the PLR and we would be happy to recommend the hotel but it wasn't a cheap holiday and no, we won't return as the flight/airport hassle and the service issues plus cost. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to ask anything.

My wife and i stayed for 1 week in a delux room at this hotel back in December 2011, and are returning in May this year for another week of pure heaven. We have stayed in many great hotels, villas and cruised several times, this hotel is up there with the best of them. From the moment you enter the hotel and into your massive room, to when you are escorted every morning to your pool lounger, to being waited on hand and foot by Carlos all day at the pool, and Muhammad having a chat and polishing your sunglasses every day. This hotel is in a very remote area, so not for those who want to be on top of the night life, unless you want to taxi out and about.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view of sorts, the delux rooms have pool / sea facing views (and the biggest be...

Arrived back late last night after a second visit to to PLR i dont know how they do it but all the staff and management remembered us and we were duely treat like royality for two weeks
We upgraded to a superior room on ground floor much much cheaper doing it directly.
Room large clean and was given a form to ask us what time we would like our room cleaned and low and behold it was cleaned at 10am on the dot every morning
Food is out of this world cant fault anything the head chef constantly walking round testing the tempreture etc
It was my birthday on the 4th and the pool guys made me a cake out of towels and flowers very sweet i must say.
One word tho there did seem a lot more russians than last year but nothing too bad.
I will be returning next without fail the only thing may put me off is Thompson flight just looked for next year and Thomas cook are offering 25kg luggage choice of seats and meals on board to go to the Baron in Sharm lots cheaper too

We re-visited Le Rêve with 3 friends in july 2012. Last visit was in july 2013 for our honeymoon.
(You can read our review from then).

This year was not like last year :-( The service was lower then before, we had to wait for our drinks all the time & the staff did not seem as service minded as before. Even dough it was the same staff. One day we ordered drinks by the pool & my friend ordered Fanta & all of us others ordered Coca Cola & the staff repeated, "4 Cola, 1 Fanta". When he got back, after about 15 minutes (alot when it´s hot!) he gave us 5 Colas & we asked him for one Fanta. Then hi practicly accuesed my friend of lying! We said, no problems, we can have 5 cola because we are thirsty, but please bring us one fanta also. He mumbled something & the next time we ordered he was very rude & repeated our order like 3 times! He also called us "4 cola, 1 fanta" for the rest of our stay & did even yell this over the pool area!
During dinner, last year we did not wait too long for the staff to take our drink order, that they do before you take food. This year however, we often waited for about 10 minutes (there was not rush hour) & still have not goten our drinks, so we took our food & still did not got anything to drink. We had to ask for a servant for several times for this. Last year they also cleaned away your dishes quickly, but this year we had to ask them for this to.

The rooms are still lovely, also the lobby, dining rooms & pool area, but the service needs to be better, about the same as in 2011!
The shops in the hotel still keep way much higher prices then the shops in the cities & at the airport. We understand that they have to have higher prices since they have a higher rent then the shops in the cities/airport, but a shirt that is exactly the sam should not cost 800 SEK at the hotel & 200 SEK at the airport!
Please mind the man whom owns about every shop in the hotel, also the pharmacy. He is very pushy & if you are a beautyful woman (his opinion) he will herass you if you are alone without your husband. Me & my female friend was going to buy sun screen but we went up again after a while, because we could not stand him & asked the guys to go buy it for us.

The hotel is situated about 30 minutes from Hurghada airport on the shores of the Red Sea in the area known as Sahl Hasheesh. My wife and I visited here for one week in January with Thomson holidays on a fully inclusive basis. The hotel is for adults only although we didn’t choose it for that reason. Most of the guests are either Russian or German but there were quite a few Brits around.

This is a very good quality hotel with 6 different themed restaurants although some of them double up and are used for different foods on different nights. More on this later. On arrival you cannot fail to be impressed with the huge lobby area with large roof lights, central water feature and impressive décor. There were 40 or so arriving in our group and the hotel had set up a special table where we could check in and this went very smoothly. We were given a welcome drink and showed to our room. We had asked for a room overlooking the pool area and they obliged so that we could see the whole length of the hotel grounds to the sea shore from our balcony. Worth noting here is that if you get a room that does not face onto the pool area you will be looking out over some pretty boring sand dunes and building sites and this applies to both sides of the hotel. The rooms are generous in size with a large double bed, settee, dressing table, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a good size bathroom with walk in shower, bidet, toilet and washbasin with all the usual bits and pieces. A small vestibule means you can keep your cases stacked out of the main room together with your clothes in the wardrobe. There is a free safety deposit box here as well. The balcony has a small table and a couple of chairs and you can sit here comfortably watching the world go by.

The hotel has a main restaurant, The Turquoise which serves an absolutely amazing range of food. Salads, Curries, Chinese food, beef, lamb, fish, pasta, four vegetarian choices and much more besides are all on offer. But wait until they do a special night. On our last evening there was a gala dinner which was nothing short of spectacular. It is worth noting here that you need to get down to the restaurant when it opens for these events (usually 6.30pm) because some of the other guests behave quite badly and load their plates up with food to the detriment of others. However, we were treated to a real feast. A whole lamb, whole turkey, Salmons, King Prawns, Crabs plus various Chinese and Indian dishes were on offer. The chef and his brigade are to be congratulated on an outstanding display. You can also visit once a week without charge Bella the Italian restaurant, Mandarin for Chinese and Mermaid for seafood. You need to book all these restaurants and they get very busy so see the guest relations lady ASAP when you arrive. Also available is Miyako for Sushi and an Indian restaurant both of which are chargeable. We tried Bella and Mandarin and the Italian was the best for us. I had a very good fillet steak in a mushroom sauce and my wife had fish. The Chinese is good but be aware the food tends to be very spicy and several of the guests including me got caught out with the dips provided with crackers. The sushi was a little basic in style but tasty none the more for that. There are two other facilities on offer which we didn’t use, Ossiano a snack bar and late dinner served in the Turquoise restaurant 23.30 to 01.00.

Entertainment is provided on the fourth floor in the Long Bar most nights and we were fortunate to have a very talented singer called Damian who sadly is no longer at the hotel as he finished his 3 month stint and flew back to the UK on our flight. There was a colourful whirling dervish act that featured flowing ballerina type dresses and on one occasion a belly dancer.

Outside the hotel there are two main pools one of which is salt water and the other heated. There are several smaller pools but these are really only for decorative purposes. A pool bar with large comfortable leather seats means you can sit in the shade for a welcome drink. The hotel has its own small jetty which is built out over the coral. You can stand at the end and see beautiful coloured fish diving in and out of the coral without getting your feet wet, an absolutely magical experience. Of course if you want to snorkel you can get a much better view.

Bike hire is available at a very modest 65p per hour and gives you the chance to ride along the coastal road traffic free. If you are walking along the seafront, you need to be aware that there are absolutely no seats there at all and it is a very long sea front! The hotel provides a free bus service to Hurghada twice a day at 2.00pm and 7.30pm but you must book in advance as early as possible as there are only ten seats. You also get complimentary soft drink vouchers for the hotels café so it is worth doing. You don’t have to come back on the bus you can always get a taxi which costs around £8.

Much of this hotel’s appeal lies in it’s Manager and staff who make every effort to insure you are enjoying your holiday. For example, the General Manager, Mohamed was often to be seen walking through the grounds of the hotel or round the building chatting to guests and checking everything was OK. He is justifiably confident in his hotel and staff and on our last day, he stood by the coach door to say farewell to every single guest, a really nice touch and one rarely seen these days. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and long may the standards we saw, continue.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool otherwise you will be facing a building site.

We were recommended this hotel by my colleague and we were not disapointed. The hotel was extremely clean and the snorkelling at the end of the jetty was fantastic. The buffet for evening dinner was the best of the resturants with extensive choice. The staff were very attentive and a special thank you to Fouquet Zakaria (executive duty manager) who's customer service and friendly nature was second to none. We will be back.
