I am so torn with my review about this hotel as I will have to agree the previous reviewer.
On first impressions, we loved this hotel but towards the end of it, sadly I cannot recommend it unless you are Russian. It is very impressive, the staff are wonderful and cannot do enough for you, they are so warm and friendly and do not deserve to be spoken to the way they are by a certain other nationality which we witnessed time and time again (upon returning home, having spoken to other people who have been to Egypt, they are also disgusted by the way the Egyptian staff are spoken to so it wasn't just us or this hotel).
This place is immaculately clean and there are people cleaning, moping, sweeping even raking the sand on the beach all the time to ensure it is kept in pristine condition. Special thanks to Mezu in the Shisha cafe, he would make our day with his smile and friendliness and he just went out of his way to help us (for instance we ordered a drink from a waiter but they forgot us, so he went to arrange one personally), it is this attitude of staff going above and beyond that impressed us and they are very warming people, always joking and smiling, always saying hello etc.
Transfer from the airport was with Eastmar Travel and they made us feel like royalty! It was super quick and efficient and we were the only 2 people in the taxi so no stopping at other hotels to drop people off (we later realised it's because Thomas Cook (whom we flew with) don't offer this hotel and now we know why).
Rooms are of a good size, they have a powerful shower and very large comfortable beds. The lighting was a little dark though so from a woman's perspective, it wasn't great for applying make up, however this is a tiny niggly point because let's face it, hopefully you will start tanning and won't need make up :0) (although from a man's perspective my husband found it slightly more difficult for shaving).
The plus point of this hotel is you part of a chain and you can use the facilities of the Albatros Beach next doorn where they have 2 waterslides - if you like that sort of thing. Now I don't, however after a few arguments with staff regarding diving (see final paragraph of this long review) about not letting us take drinks to our room whilst we showered in the evening (yes, they would make a big deal about this and I never heard of a 5* resort not allowing you to take drinks to your room before but they said they would run out of glasses - well if you're a 5* hotel, get more glasses as that isn't our problem, we pay for excellence and we expect it!!). Anyway, I digress ..... the waterslides; we decided to go there for some fun and we had a blast!!! You have to buy a rubber ring for the 2nd one but it was the best 5 euros we have ever spent as it gave us hours of fun (well, my husband hours, for me about 45 minutes lol). So, if it all gets to much for you, I suggest you pop to the waterslides and go for it, I am certainly glad I didn't let me fear of heights and going fast spoil this mini-adventure lol.
Sadly this is where the positivity ends and it's not the hotel's fault. As other people have said, the hotel is full of Russians and Germans and although it doesn't bother me being in a hotel with other foreigners, it was the way the Russians were with other guests by being loud, rude, barging past you without an apology, pushing in front of you, shouting loudly at 4am and banging doors and generally no consideration for anyone but themselves - it all becomes a little much after a while when you have been knocked by someone for the 5th time in one day!! The Germans are fine, they have manners and are friendly and lovely to talk with and we chatted with quite a few so please don't tar them with the same brush, I am sure they don't like the rudeness as much as anyone else!
Checking in was also rather bizarre, they insist on keeping your luggage by the door and you sit down whilst they bring the booking information over to you. Apparently they have a "no luggage by reception desk" policy which is nice, however they didn't like it when we were happy to keep hold of our luggage whilst sitting down. We never let our luggage out of our sight as we know of someone who was on holiday in another country and left their luggage with someone who said they were hotel staff .... they never saw their luggage again and the insurance company said it was their fault for leeting it out of their sight but that's another story. So, we are young and fit enough to carry our suitcases on wheels wherever we need but they wouldn't tell us where our room was and insisted a Bellboy take it. We knew this was because he wanted a tip and we didn't have any change on us so wanted to avoid embarrassment - in the end, the stress-free idea turned into more of a stressful situation than we would have liked! The bellboy practically dragged the suitcases from our hands to our room and then stood around expecting a tip (as is sometimes expected in a 5* hotel). We had to say we didn't have anything and that is why we didn't want him to take our bags in the first place! We are happy to tip and we certainly did tip various members of staff because of their kindness but the British nation isn't one where you tip for the sake of it.
Finally - if you wish to book a dive (which was the sole purpose of our trip here), if you choose to use the Dive Shop on the beach as part of the hotel on the left, they will tell you want you want to hear to get a sale but not actually be able to deliver! We booked a day diving and my husband was told he could do 3 dives in the same day, when we go to the boat he was told that he couldn't as they don't offer that and he shouldn't have been sold it. When we went back to the shop they told him he could go out on the boat again for the 3rd dive another day or pay more for a 4th dive and do 2 more in a day but he would have to be away for the full day again. I have dived all over the world and many times have just done 1 dive from a boat and returned home, but the dive operator said he couldn't do this, then he was told he could do it off the beach but another dive operator said the viz wouldn't be very good and it wasn't worth it. Eventually he was fed up with not being told the truth so went to Guest Relations at the hotel who advised my husband to go to the other Dive shop for Germans on the beach but to the right. The lady told him that they do not do 3 dives in a day, he could only do 2 - end of! He appreciated her honesty and thanked her for it then went for his refund from the other dive operator. All he wanted was someone telling him the truth from the start which put a downer on his day (another good reason for us to go on the waterslides!!)
I would say to you, having read all the reviews, good luck in making your decision as to whether you think you should stay at this hotel or not.
