Having eaten fairly stodgy Egyptian food for two weeks, we fancied something light - so we thought fish. Not so at Maritim. This was at lunchtime; the only two fish dishes available were fish and chips or a seafood risotto. Hardly light meals!
My husband's fish and chips was beautifully presented, and the chips were good. The fish, however, had no flavour whatsoever - maybe that's why it is served with a curry dip?
My risotto was perfectly cooked, but contained white fish and calamari which tasted of nothing - and the 4 (!) prawns were rancid and not edible. It also had far too much grated parmesan.
We had to ask the waiter to clean our table (there had just been a sandstorm) and noone enquired whether our food was satisfactory, noone offered us a pudding, a second drink or a cup of coffee. So we left.
Two main courses, a glass of white wine and a small bottle of water cost us EL 275. Plus a tip, of course.
You can do soooo much better in El Gouna.
