“If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing, friendly, family run hotel with a beautiful house reef, the Daniela is thus and more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Having travelled to Egypt many times and stayed in some of the top hotels, my wife and I were not expecting a great deal from this small hotel. However, it turned out to be a little gem and gave us one of the best fortnights in Egypt to date. In summary, although in need of a spot if tlc in places, the hotel is impeccably run, set amongst the beautiful desert mountains in a very peaceful area just outside Dahab. There is an excellent dive centre and a rather fantastic house reef straight off the beach front. The staff cannot do enough for you, nothing is too much trouble and the food is excellent and plentiful (thanks to the brilliant Mustapha and his brother, the chefs). Hagag, the manager is fantastic and his staff happily work as a team to ensure that your stay is the best it can be. Need we say more?

They create an atmosphere you'll find in no other hotel. An excellent personal service and superior dive center. Just what we were looking for.
Our 4 year old daughter could not get out of the pool.
Just step into the sea and snorkel all day. Like being in an aquarium, but with a lot more fish.
For us no other hotel in Dahab! Just relaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Room Tip: Your room is to sleep and shower. The rest of the day you'll hardly enter it.

My 15 year old Daughter and I stayed at the Daniela recently for two weeks.

Dahab and the Daniela was recommended to us as my 15 year old Daughter is a Diver and of course the Red Sea is famous for it's Diving.

Whilst the Daniela is not a five star hotel, it is definitely very comfortable, the food was excellent and the Manager and all his staff are friendly, helpful, polite and when necessary patient, which for us was more important. There is generally a friendly atmosphere amongst guests as this is a smaller hotel with a more personal touch, we met some lovely people. The Manager was there late on the evening we arrived and we were touched that again he and the receptionists were there to say goodbye when we left. I'm afraid I don't know his name, the receptionist on during the day had a good sense of humour, which we appreciated. Also the receptionist on at night was a lovely helpful guy too, as we're all the staff at the Daniela.

We had a couple of problems during our stay, not relating to the Hotel and the staff were so helpful.

The views across the water to Saudi Arabia were amazing, as were the Sinai mountains behind the Hotel. it was facinating watching the camels pass by every day, sometimes a lone camel with a mind of it's own would wander by which was quite amusing to watch.

Our room was a good size with adequate facilities. The beds were very comfortable, and we had excellent views. I believe all the rooms have sea views.

As it was our first visit and she was diving alone, my Daughter dived with one of the larger Dive Centre's in Dahab, although I learnt from other guests that the Daniela Dive Centre was very professionally run.

It is a Hotel that I would certainly recommend and return to.

Many thanks to the Daniela and all of it's staff.

Room Tip: All the rooms have sea views, although the rooms at the end of each block have a window facing the s...

The location alone makes this an amazing place to stay and we had huge expectations at first glimpse of it, unfortunately the rooms are extremely basic and had a really foul smell in the bathroom and some sort of greenish colored substance seeping out around the toilet.
Outside the rooms there is a lovely pool and beach area with plenty of seating, there is also a bar beside the pool but after waiting half an hour for someone to serve us we gave up.
Dinner and breakfast was very good, the only let down being the people in the kitchen staring at us as we ate and peeking out around the door then scampering away when I caught them looking. Very odd.
This place has so much potential, if the rooms and service were brought up to a decent level I'd stay here for a week at least.

A small Resort located on the banks of the Red Sea.

Located in the small town of Dahab, this small resort style is some what like what you see in greece.

A perfect place to relax and unwind. I only stayed here one night but would have liked to have stay here longer.

This place has such great potential, investing a little extra money on the rooms and staff with a little more care and this place would be tops.

Rooms are very basic, clean and all have air-conditioning, Most rooms have sea views with balconies, some balconies look directly at the sea and others have side on views.

I was also unable to get reception on the TV, but there is a plasma working in the reception.

However the bathrooms are not very good, door knobs loose etc. Not much water pressure and can be cold. Very bad condition.

A very nice pool area, however the pool bar is very dirty and run down.

The restaurant serves good food with plenty of options and variety on offer.

This resort I would recommend, but only because of its location on the Red Sea.

1st day with no car thought were kind of far from everywhere... the 2nd day couldn’t get enough from their beautiful beach with no neighbors, warm-hearted staff, great reef, diving center, good breakfast, pool and sun lounges. By night there's a shuttle to Dahab to spend the evening + the Blue Hole just a few minutes away! Daniela was a GOOD & RELAXING choice.

We have just returned from our first stay at the Daniela hotel in Dahab. Our main reason for travelling was to dive and we planned to use the Daniela diving centre. We had an excellent stay and wanted to write up the review along with some advice for those who had never travelled to this area before.
When you arrive at the airport in Sharm, just walk straight around to the passport control desks, ignore the touts trying to get you to buy a visa. You only need them if you plan on doing any trips outside of the Sharm/Dahab area (e.g. Cairo/Luxor or a liveaboard boat trip).
We had arranged a transfer with the hotel and our driver duly met us straight after baggage collection and took us to the air conditioned mini van. An hour's journey later through the spectacular red mountains , we arrived into Dahab. The hotel is located about 2.5km to the north of Dahab, and is set back from the road, on the sea side. Unlike some other hotels in that area which are on the mountain side of the road, and therefore have no direct access to the sea, the Daniela has a much bigger property size overall as well as being about 100 metres back from the road itself so you don't have any problems with traffic sounds (although the road itself is not a busy one at all).
All rooms are air conditioned, and have a sea view - some balconies look directly at the sea and others are more side on, but the beach curves around so you will see the sea!). We took an upstairs room which had a domed ceiling although I'm not sure if the downstairs rooms have the same feature. The room itself was adequate for a 3 star hotel, and although the furniture is a bit dated everything was kept very clean (no insects, dirt etc). Having read the reviews here I was aware that I shouldn't have high hopes for the bathroom but actually found it to be fine. We had a shower and no bath but I couldn't imagine ever needing one in 38-39 degree heat anyway. We had a fridge in the room, which had a small freezer box in which we froze a large water bottle every night to drink the next day whilst diving. We also had a TV but I think that was luck rather than being a standard thing in each room. Bring your own kettle as there aren't any in the room.
The breakfast consisted of a hot and cold buffet and the chef also cooked eggs/omlettes/pancakes to order. Generally we found that there could have been more fruit served at breakfast - only orange slices were on offer and we started to get bananas when we asked for them. If you need fruit, I suggest that on the day you arrive you take either the free shuttle bus or arrange a taxi (approx. 50 LE return) to take you to the fruit shop on the way into Dahab. There is a monument in the middle of the road and a couple of butchers nearby so you won't miss it. look for the indoor market near the German bakery for a really big selection of fruit and veg. Coffee at breakfast is nescafe instant. Also they serve squash but not fruit juice.
Egyptian cereals are strange, so bring your own oats/muesli. They have honey/jam etc there. Also buy a load of water - you will be drinking it all day long to keep hydrated in the dry heat out there so its better to stock up at a supermarket rather than keep ordering it.
You can order lunch from the pool side bar - there's a good selection and the food is nice. The pool side bar has the added feature of being at the side of the pool (..!) so you can swim up to order a beer.
We found the egyptian beer - Secora in particular - not to be great for the stomach. If you have any problems at all with stomach issues, go to one of the many pharmacies in Dahab and ask for Antinal (containing Nifuroxazide) which really does sort out stomach cramp/the runs/etc). It made me a bit drowsy just to warn you though. Egyptian wine also had a similar effect. We had no problems with the food in the hotel, but were ill the day after eating out in Dahab - I have read since that the best advice would just be to eat small amounts of lots of different foods rather than just ordering one big plate of something.
I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday whilst on holiday and our diving guide managed to pass on the message to the hotel staff without my knowing so at dinner we had a big personalised cake brought out to me by the staff, along with drumming and dancing around the tables!! It definitely made the day unforgettable at any rate.
Dinner was also a hot and cold buffet and all of the food was of a really good quality - various salads - tabbouleh, hummus, tahini, a chicken dish, a beef dish, a fish dish and soups along with breads and cheeses - definitely plenty to keep you filled up. The deserts are also pretty amazing.
Unlike our last trip to Egypt where we stayed in a big hotel in Hurghada, we found the staff here to be very genuine in their customer service. The smaller size of hotel helped, but I found them all to be quite content and admired the fact that they maintained their good humour even through out very long and very hot days.
There were no other UK guests at the hotel during out stay, mainly Dutch and some Italian.
There is a free shuttle bus into central Dahab at 9pm every night, after dinner. It comes back to the hotel at 11pm. If you miss the taxi don't panic. Either call the Daniela or ask in a restaurant or hotel for one or walk to either the car park behind the bridge (in the centre) or to the streets behind the Lighthouse (to the east) and you'll find either some taxis or more likely, some locals in jeeps or pick up trucks waiting to work as a taxi. A normal one way price for us was around 25 LE from Dahab to the Daniela.
The cars and driving skills are pretty different to what you might be used to at home but you just have to trust that they know what they're doing out there - we saw nothing to make us feel less secure in how they drove - and we travelled a fair bit every day to dive sites and into town.
In Dahab - there is some touting to get you into restaurants but nothing in the league of Sharm or Hurghada. Just politely say "La, Shokran" (No, thankyou) and they'll leave you alone. Try and ask for a discount before you enter a restaurant and always haggle in the gift shops.
Dahab is much smaller than other resorts so by half way through the week you will be pretty likely to bump into someone you've met - either staff or dive guides or other guests - if you go out. I felt that this made the people who worked there less likely to really pressure you - assuming that you could might come back the next day.
Teh red sea does have some jelly fish I'm afraid - but they don't have horrible trailing tentacles and don't sting. If you're in the water with them, just fan them away. I went on a night snorkelling trip and it was actually pretty cool seeing them in the dark sea. They don't move very quickly at all, so you can easily navigate around them. if you really don't like them just hire a wetsuit. But don't let it put you off getting in the water - I'm serious when I say that the water really is the main feature here - when you put a mask on and stick you head under the surface you will be transported to another world - you will never see so many colourful varieties of fish and coral life. The water was about 24-25 degrees in mid June. It can sometimes be slightly warmer then but does warm up even more by August.
The dive centre was small but extremely well run with very dedicated staff who took the work they did very seriously - proper dive reviews carried out if you hadn't dived for more than 6 months - don't worry, they are very very patient and take you to a very shallow lagoon to do the check dive. Make sure you've re-read your manual though - they don't re-teach you the info, they just get you to complete a multiple choice test, so you'll need to know the facts already. Make sure you take your dive cards with you too.
I'm really glad we chose to use this dive centre for the great staff but also the very small group size - the most we had in a group was 4 plus we were lucky enough to have two guides with us. my favourite dive was the Islands which we did twice. The blue hole was interesting in so much as seeing the free divers disappearing into the dark blue and then reappearing is pretty cool, but as far as wildlife, we saw much more elsewhere. Gabhr El Bint was also a really good dive - lots of wildlife around. The Lighthouse and Dahab centre are also worth doing to try to spot sea horses.
Ok - that's it. The rest you can find out when you get there. Stay at this hotel - it's perfect for a low budget, relaxing, stress free holiday. if you really don't want to dive, just snorkel on the house reef and lagoons - but make sure you get in the water. It's incredible.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are slightly smaller than downstairs rooms, but have the added benefit of a private b...
