We picked this place after reading some good reviews but think its past its prime! Don't be fooled by the up to date website, the rooms are in need of a makeover. In November it was very quiet and didn't have much atmosphere to save it either. We ended up paying a bit more and moving to Inmo Divers Hotel (which also has some nicer budget rooms if that's what you are looking for).

Def recommend for travelers.
Village consists of hotel rooms & dorm rooms.
I stayed in 4bed dorm perfect for a backpackers 25egy pounds a night.. Which was 3€.. Soo nothing :)

Breakfast was 15egy pounds at Jasmin Restrauant. Ate every breakfast & most dinners there and food everytime was fantastic. Good size and super cheap. Staff spoke English and big menu.

Penguin Padi dive center. Where I completed my open water & advanced was great. Instructors are friendly and Padi certified so it's was an excellent experience.

Hoping I can get a job at penguin on reception so I can spend more time in Dahab.

Staffs in reception are unfriendly and looks angry all the time. No airconditioner in room. Wifi access is really bad.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Penguin back in February - I was off to do my PADI while he just wanted a refresher and go on a few dives with me. We stayed in a sea view room, which was nice - clean, comfortable, nothing fancy but we were really just after a bed to sleep in and it was more than enough for what we wanted (and for what we paid).

When we arrived we we were welcomed by the staff, who sat and had a drink with us. They are genuinely friendly, cool people who made us feel at home and were nice to chat to over the course of the week. The food from Penguin is great as well (we are both veggies), but the staff didn't get annoyed or pushy if we wanted to eat out elsewhere.

The dive centre staff were AMAZING. I was taken through my PADI by Moustafa, who might be the most patient person in the world as I can be pretty slow to pick these things up! He was chilled out but attentive, a good teacher who is able to clearly explain what you should be doing (with a good sense of humor too). I'd recommend him to anyone.

Bonus points for penguin - the cats that chill out at their restaurant were ridiculously cute, and all the staff are kind to them too.

Penguin village is cheap, like everywhere in Dahab. But the beach is replaced from a restaurant that try to sell everything while you are trying to take the sun or read something, and drinks and meals are more expensive than the room. I have found my toilette really dirt. Maybe the sea view rooms are better

Hotel location is very good, just next to the beach.

Rooms weren't as clean as we hoped - fungus on ceiling and salty tap water.

As to cons - service was nice and price was acceptable.

If you're looking for a cheap hotel, it is a right place for you - but don't expect anything fancy.

The staff at Penguin are really lovely. The rooms are clean and comfortable, not luxurious (honestly, what do you expect at such reasonable prices?). We had a better-than-average room with a terrace looking out towards the ocean for about $30/night. Loved it and will be back.

The chilled out vibe at Penguin was exactly what we needed and hoped for after hearing about how Dahab had become a tourist trap. Sadly, tourism across Egypt has suffered considerably since the revolution, and as some of the local people working in tourism told us, Dahab had been "dead" for quite some time. Really sad for all the people trying to make a living; really good for tourists looking for a chilled-out beach town.

Hire a bike for a few days and ride up and down the peninsula for snorkelling/diving etc. The Blue Hole is overrated if you don't dive (and probably a bit destroyed by the sheer numbers of tourists). Try a different spot, but don't walk on the coral!

Semi-stray cats abound in Dahab, which was slightly annoying for someone who is highly allergic. The main improvement I would make to Penguin is to wash their big sitting pillows in the restaurant more often. Every time i sat down for breakfast or a beer, I started itching and sneezing :)
