“A really great alternative!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Had a really lovely meal here. After sampling a few other places in Dahab it was nice to get away from the main strip of flashy light restaurants and loud music. The prices were very reasonable as well. You may not get your food delivered in a tin foil boat or a free starter and desert with every meal (you do in some of the other restaurants!), but instead you pay for what you order and hence prices are a little lower for each dish than they would be at the main strip restaurants. The menu was a really interesting mix of Russian and other world dishes. We tried mainly Russian after the lovely waiter (owner) came and offered to explain what some of the dishes were.

The food was a little different (we had never tried Russian food before) but tasted really lovely and fresh and we will definitely go back again. Even though we were full, we were tempted by the interesting deserts and they were also delicious. Highly recommend the Ginger tea too.

Overall, excellent service, could not fault the food or the experience at all.

“The best Russian restaurant in Dahab with the word "Cat" in its title!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I'm not an expert on Russian food, that much is fact. However, having eaten much of the meaty middle eastern affair since arriving, this place seemed like a welcome change. There was no-one on the street to convince us of their worth, so their nifty logo and neat decor (one of the few in Dahab not to think more is better) was what brought us inside.

The little pasty things whose name I forget? Fantastic. There were 6, and though a fair portion, still I would have eaten them till I was sick if I had the option. With the Russian ravioli also to eat (my partner and I were sharing), it was a good eat all round.

The portions aren't huge, but the prices reflect what you get, which differs from the pricing model of many other places which overcharge for the main and then throw in freebies to sweeten the deal.

The black ginger tea was abundant and soothing, also something worth trying out if you visit.
The doughnuts with honey & cottage cheese pancake things were okay, though nothing unexpected there, just a stodgy sweet treat. However the mango soup thing was divine, couldn't get enough of that one. Yummy yummy mangoes in soupy form. With vivid descriptions like these, I'm sure you're imagining you were right there with me. Let me help by putting it all in caps. YUMMY YUMMY MANGO SOUP. Mmmmm.

So in redux form, a nice change to the rest with a great, simple and unpretentious atmosphere serving fairly priced good food.

I may forget the exact names of the dishes, but I won't be forgetting the restaurant in a hurry.

“Only place to eat in Dahab !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

After trying the local cuisine (oily fried junk) the Redcat was recommended to us by a local diving rep, it's a Russian owned restaurant, lovely couple...he was a Pharmacist and she was a mathematician, they came to Dahab for a holiday, found nowhere to eat decent food so set up their own restaurant, 3 years later after difficult times business is looking good due to their beautifully presented food and the excellent cooking. Prices are the same as the local food, for example...a starter for 2, main course for 2 plus 2 drinks each (2 pints of Stella each for us ! ) was about £19 total. We tried all the western style food first, which was gorgeous then the owner, who was a very interesting and pleasant guy ( heavily in to wind surfing ! ) asked us to try the Russian food, we chose the Boursh soup which was superb and had a main course each( can't remember the names ! ) but they were very well cooked and presented and we wished we'd tried the Russian menu earlier as it's extremely good. If your want your tum to have as good a holiday as you do....the Redcat is the place to be. Good luck to the Redcat owners....all the best, Tim & Claire ( Bald English guy and red head lovely wife ;0))

“Excellent value for money, delicious food”

Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Red Cat. Went for dinner with my friend who was visiting Dahab, and the food was delicious and staff were very attentive. Would recommend as one of the best restaurants in Dahab.

“Best restaurant in Dahab”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

It was the first time I tried Russian food and, even though it might seem strange in Egypt, it is definately the best place to eat in Dahab. Highly recommende
