“Lovely hotel and staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

We had a really really lovely stay at Ghazala hotel, and this was mostly due to the excellent staff.

This hotel is perfect for the price. It is nothing fancy and the rooms are very basic, but they are clean and comfortable. We had a problem with our shower on the first day and this was fixed in minutes.

The hotel has it's own cafe/restaurant which serves good food and the location on the beach is lovely. It's only really possible to swim at high tide and if it's not too windy/choppy, but even if you can't swim, lazing on the beach is perfect. If you are lucky enough to be around for high tide and have a relatively calm day, then the snorkelling on the reef in front of the hotel was one of the best we experienced in Dahab and you will probably be alone out there, instead of bumping into numerous other divers and snorkelers as you might at the other reefs. We were amazed, after days of diving elsewhere we think we saw more fish there than anywhere.
You have to walk out over the rocks so water shoes are advisable.

The downsides to our experience where firstly that the aircon worked only sporadically, but this wasn't too much of a problem as temperatures are lower in November, so we didn't even tell the staff, and secondly, the mosquitos. They were quite a problem, the room has screens over the windows but no net over the bed, so we were regularly woken up by the buzzing around our heads. They were also a problem if we sat outside after the sun set. We later discovered that there only seemed to be mosquitoes in the south of Dahab, south of the main town area? Someone mentioned to us that this was due to a nearby water treatment facility that had stopped dealing with the mosquito problem.
I'm sure there is nothing the hotel can do about this and we managed to cover up in the evening to avoid the problem, but we would have been much happier sleeping under a bet net.

I really want to say a huge thank you to all the staff, they really made our stay very pleasant and nothing was ever too much trouble. They were chatty and friendly and there was always a warm welcome whenever they saw us. They really are an asset to the hotel!

We were also there when it rained and hailed very heavily, which is apparently extremely rare for Dahab and the staff were excellent. They dealt with the crisis and the clear up really quickly and efficiently.

Overall we had an excellent stay and we are very glad we chose Ghazala hotel. You may be able to get a slightly fancier room for quite a bit more money elsewhere, but I'm not sure it would be worth it. This place was really great.

Ghazala Hotel offers the BEST affordable, elegant and decent stay in Dahab. It is located directly over the sea. The staff and honor of this place are educated, fun, friendly and very supportive. The room is very simple, very clean and air-conditioned.

A cool place to stay. Ghazala is perfectly located halfway between town -- with its extensive collection of restaurants -- and the laguna where all the fancier resorts and windsurfing and kitesurfing stations are located. The hotel is right on the beach and its promenade, and boasts a neat restaurant and a bedouin set up, complete with cushions and rugs. The rooms themselves are relatively spacious, and are all ensuite, with basic but functioning WC facilities. Best of all is the atmosphere: it is friendly, with guests getting to know one another and socialising together, whether within the hotel or elsewhere. Ghanim is in charge of the restaurant, while Joe, the proprietor oversees the hotel facilities themselves. So if you are a sole traveller this is a good base to set up camp, or if you are in a group Ghazala is an equally prescient choice. Enjoy. I will be back...

Room Tip: The closer to the beach, the better!

We've been to Ghazala a few times now. It is laid back, easygoing, simple and straightforward. A pretty quiet location (very quiet for Dahab) but within easy walking distance of the centre of town, and with enough local shops and beer spots that you don't ever have to go anywhere. Actually has its own beach, which is not common in Dahab.

I don't want to pay a fortune. I don't need gold taps and 24 hour room service. I do need somewhere clean, comfy and welcoming. Very happy with Joe and his team. Will certainly go back.

Room Tip: Rooms right on the beach are the noisiest. Come in a room or two from the beach, and it is quieter.

This place is by a long shot not the Hilton, but it's not supposed to be. It does however do the job and does it nicely. Rooms are air conditioned and cable TV is in most rooms, bathrooms are clean, service is friendly and prices are not bad. It's at the very end of the vibrant Mashraba scene so peace and quiet are definitely there, the center is a 10 minute walk. Have nothing bad to say about this hotel, will definitely return.

Room Tip: First room overlooking the beach, triple beds (good value), downside is a small TV (unlike most of t...

This place was recommended to us by some friends who like diving and love going to Dahab to get away from it all at the weekends. We live in Cairo and this place is such a contrast however this boutique hotel is a real gem. We have been several times and intend to go again and would recommend it as a great place to simply chill. The hotel is small but really friendly the owner Joe has a great attitude in running this place. The staff are friendly and very helpful and the place is clean and tidy and well kept.
I know people have different tastes and it all depends what you are after. This place is simple straight forward and does great breakfast's and is excellent value for money.
