“Quiet place, delicious food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We stayed at the Finch Bay hotel for 3 nights, to relax after our Galapagos cruise. We had an Ocean View room, which is comfortable and has a nice terrace. The beds are very large and good and the bathroom is up to standard. It is a modern hotel, located just west of the town of Puerto Ayora and can only be reached via water taxi or the dinghy from the hotel, and then it is another 5 minutes walking to the hotel. It has its own beach and a swimming pool. They offer a variety of guided activities.
Wifi was good, but I had no mobile reception.
We liked the quiet location and especially the fabulous food. Breakfast and lunch are great, but the chef is amazingly creative for dinner! Nice combinations, great taste and a beautiful presentation. And the service is good. RECOMMENDED!!

Stayed here to take a break from the long travel time to Galapagos before going on a cruise. Pool and beach are nice. Dinner at the restaurant is good. Would stay here again if visiting Galapagos. Our room wasn't that nice but we were only in there to sleep. Spent most of our time at the pool, beach or on the hammock on the balcony.

I am not keen on cruise ships so chose this option instead, going out on wonderful day trips. this means driving back to the main port each day but that was not a problem.

I had a lovely room complete with hammock on the balcony to chill out; or you can sip cocktails at the bar. A short walk from the hotel is a small lake where you can sit at sunset and watch the pelicans and other birds. So peaceful!

Another advantage is that it is away from the main town - you take a water taxi [all well organized by the hotel] and then walk up to the bay with lovely sandy beaches "away from it all". Most people seemed to stay just 3 nights as an add-on to a cruise but I made it my base and stayed for a week - and loved it.

The company really do put effort into recycling - they fund the recycling plant on the island and pay fishermen to clean up the beaches. You can go and visit it if you ask.

Remember that all food etc. has to be brought from the mainland so you may get similar meals if you stay longer! Some people complained about the lack of choice but I thought the meals very good indeed.

On arrival in the Galapagos you pay a one-off fee of $100 - don't forget to read the small print in your travel instructions which tells you all about this.

Some islands are wonderful for snorkelling and buoyancy aids are available. You can go on walks as well as boat trips. I booked online directly and they were so helpful at the hotel.

I´m Santiago from Buenos Aires Argentina. 2 weeks ago (april 25/2015). I went for 5 days with my wife Daniela and Felicitas my 4 year old daugther.

Tours are hard walking, and the sea is amazing, animals are best friends!

Javier General Manager, Monica and Cesar and Pepito (restaurant staff) kindly nice people. The food and cheff is outstanding. Everybody knows your first name.., the treatment is like your are a king, but with a familiy friendly speach.

Sealanized hot water pool. 2 incredible boats for tours. ( ¨Chico¨ captain, very nice guy).
The rooms are very good, wifi, but no TV. Beds and linens are 10 pts.

They have 2 experienced guides: Mario (super hero) and Soto.

During last march, 2 week before my experience in FinchBay I traveled a month arround Asia in many highend luxury hotels. (Pennynsula Hong Kong, Waldorf Astoria Beijing, RitzCarlton Singapur, etc)..., but Finchbay was outstanding better!

I compare FinchBay with Amandari Hotel in Bali and Hakone Ginyu en Japan in the same league-

I highly recomend this hotel and Galapagos as turism destination.

Best wishes for Javier and Monica!

This is the place to stay on Santa Cruz. We stayed here as part of an excursion to the Galapagos. The rooms are comfortable, the grounds are beautiful...the view from pool area is exceptional. Food in restaurant was delicious.

To get to this hotel you need to take a water taxi. The hotel has two of these. They have a distinctive green awning and the hotel name is on the side of the boat. They are available hourly. If you do not want to wait, there are many other water taxis available.....60 cents for day trip, $1.00 for evening trip per person.
When you disembark, there is a few steps up to the landing.
Then you have a walk of approx. 8 - 10 minutes to the hotel.
Your luggage is taken care of by hotel staff so you do not have to pull it along behind you....at least we did not have to worry about that.
The pool is very nice but warm.
There is a sandy public beach adjacent to the hotel....not much shade though on the beach.
Breakfast at the hotel was pretty standard...good service. Always two kinds of fresh juice and crisp bacon.
Lunch and dinner menu had a good variety of items. This hotel is very keen on meal presentation and cutlery is constantly changing. The food was excellent. Vegetables were often sparse but all one had to do was ask for vegetables and a good sized dish of them appeared. Appreciated this. And the service was usually very good unless you were with a large group ie 15 and then it slowed considerably.
Rooms were standard. Yummy chocolates each night at bedside.
Only one hook in the bathroom right over the T paper so watch what you hang there....nothing wet!
Bathroom mat was too small and floor tended to be slippery as a result.
Expect a bit of sand in the room from the pathways....but they sweep 2x day.
A pleasant place to spend your evenings after day trips.
