“Simply perfect in Puerto Ayora”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

This was our first hotel on a land-based trip around the Galapagos and it couldn't have been a better introduction to the islands. Our 2nd floor double room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The wifi and AC both worked well. There was a water cooler and mini-fridge just outside the door to our room. The fridge has a shelf marked for each room to use which was nice and it was great to have unlimited drinking water. The breakfast was substantial and delicious and the mother & daughter who own the hotel were just terrific. Josy (the daughter) speaks nearly-perfect English and helped us plan our days on the island and get our ferry booked to the next island. Aside from some dreary weather it was a terrific stay. My only complaints were the construction noise during the day (not a big problem since we were gone most of the days) and that they don't accept credit cards (which I didn't know when I booked the room through Expedia). Since we were trying to avoid carrying a lot of cash, I ended up wiring the money for the room in advance. A credit card would have been much simpler. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at while in the Galapagos but it was definitely the best.

This is my first review ever and glad that I get to write about Galapagos Suites. My husband, daughter and I stayed there in mid-July. A mother and daughter team own this lovely hotel! They are both named Joseline or Josy for short. They played a big part in making our vacation at the Galapagos Islands an awesome experience. We already had a good first impression before we even got to Ecuador. We communicated with the younger Josy via telephone and email to arrange our room. She was easy to reach and if not available, she replied promptly. Her professionalism over the phone was key in our final decision about hotel accommodation. Yes, this hotel is immaculate (inside and out), comfortable beds, hot water/good quality towels/great shower head/good toilet, electronic safe in room, spacious closets, clean water is provided (bottled water cooler outside room for unlimited drinking and pitcher of water for brushing teeth provided daily), breakfast included (bread, butter/jam, ham/cheese, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit juice/coffee/tea, fresh fruits, delicious home-baked goods), laundry service ($1/pound), private transportation from and to airport can be arranged for $30 each way (so worth it! e.g. driver picks you up from the airport, stays with you throughout your 45-minute "journey" from airport to hotel and takes care of your luggage; Juan, the driver, is courteous and friendly, too!), a/c available in room or may use screened doors if outside cool air preferred, locked gates (key provided) and free internet. No insect problems, by the way! They can help arrange tours for a reasonable price also. The cleaning lady is very polite and sweet. Hotel is situated about 5-10 minute walk to the restaurants and shopping area. What made this place exceptional, however, is that they go above and beyond expectations and made us feel welcomed the moment we were greeted at the gate. Our daughter was celebrating her 15th birthday and Josy found time to buy cake and balloons which was nicely set up in the terrace when we arrived at the hotel after an exhausting day of touring (thank you for singing Feliz Cumpleanos with us!). Another incident we can't forget is that one morning, we got up too late for our tour pick-up time, Josy (the mother) kindly asked the tour driver if he could come back in a few minutes to give us time to get ready and she hurriedly prepared breakfast for us so we could have something to eat before we left for our adventure. Little acts of kindness like these show how sincerely they care for their guests. "Mrs" and "Ms" Josy made us feel like we were part of their home, that we had someone we can rely and trust and, most importantly, made us feel safe while being in an unfamiliar place. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay.

My boyfriend and I went to Galapagos for a week in August. I never write reviews, but I was so impressed with this hotel, I had to write one.

Galapagos Suites is a 6-room 3-floor family-owned hotel. The owners are a mother-daughter pair who also work reception during the day. You can tell they own the hotel because of how much care they take in all the small details.

Pros:
1. Clean – the cleaning woman cleaned our room, made our beds and bathroom every day
2. Spacious beautiful rooms with a great view to the town in the back – we were on the 2nd floor.
3. Safe location
4. Secure - the hotel is locked with a gate as well as your room.
5. Breakfast daily – including fresh fruit, ham and cheese, hot coffee, home-made fresh baked goods, fresh fruit juice
6. Amazing staff – Mother and daughter own the hotel and personally work at the desk all day – really helpful and personable. When our plans for a day tour fell through, Josie the daughter (who speaks great English) helped connect us to our tour company and figure it out. The mother’s English isn’t as good, but she’s still really sweet and helpful.
7. Close to the center of town – Less than 5-10 minute walking to the center with great restaurants.
8. Free wi-fi
9. Private – only six available rooms, fairly quiet neighborhood.
10. Laundry within 24 hours ($1/pound and service)
11. Hot showers / working toilets
12. Refrigerator
13. Unlimited drinking water with a water cooler right outside our room.
14. Personal combination safe
15. Comfortable king-sized bed with a futon in the room as well
16. Air conditioned
17. Spacious personal balcony complete with roof and comfy hammock outside
18. No insects – they give you a plug to keep bugs away. We went during the cold season, which has less bugs.
19. Great for couples and families. We met a lot of nice travelers from France and the United States there.

We were hard-pressed to come up with "Cons," but here they are:

Cons:
1. Wi-fi didn’t work all the time in the mornings.
2. No indoor common area to socialize with other travelers.
3. Hard to meet single travelers if you are traveling on your own. Everyone pretty much came with a travel companion.
4. No gym.
5. No pool.
6. Construction occasionally during the day time.
7. Not much to do at night except watch TV, the internet and walk around town.
8. No DVD player.

We stayed here on the latter part of our Galapagos trip. This place is a nice base in Puerto Ayora. It's clean and Josy and her mom are friendly. The cleaning staff (Kevin and his Mom) work hard to make sure the rooms are spotless. I've never seen a 10 year old on a school break work as hard as Kevin. Well done kid!
The water station is a nice touch for refilling water bottles and is a good way to reduce bottles.

Galapagos Suites would like to thank you for the review and the time that you have put in doing that. We just want to mention that Kevin is the child of Gloria, our housekeeper. He was on a school break for two weeks. Gloria asked us for permission in order to bring her son to the hotel so she could teach him the value of working and how she earns her money in order to support her family. So we accepted that. The other option was that Kevin would stay at home alone doing nothing, so that is why those weeks some of our guest saw Kevin working hard here in our hotel with his mother.

This was the cleanest property I've stayed at (and I travel A LOT)! Josy was so welcoming and took care of every detail! Her breakfasts are wonderful and the baked goods are to die for. Even though there was construction going on nearby, we didn't hear a thing. There is a clean water cooler for drinking just outside every room. The location is perfect with 5-minute walk to the main street on the harbor.Josy arranged all of our day trips, with lots of tips on which ones to see, and we didn't worry about a thing. Great place to stay!

You will not find a better place to stay on Santa Cruz! This BnB is beautiful, clean, spacious. The breakfasts are very nice... fresh fruit, juice, meat and cheese, and great coffee cakes. The owners are beyond amazing... both delightful and helpful. This place exceeded my expectations and I would return in a heart beat. It was nice to have a personal safe in the room, especially on travels. The beds were comfortable. There is always access to safe water. Josey goes above and beyond to accommodate her guests. The location is perfect, right off the main street, so it's quiet but close and convenient. This is where you want to stay if you are in Puerto Ayora. There is AC if the night is hot and stuffy. The pictures posted are what you get. The place is that nice.

Room Tip: I don't know if there is a bad room.

Very nice hotel, a short walk from Darwin Blvd and the ocean. The staff is very nice. It feels more like visiting family than staying in a hotel. The lady who worked at night was as worried as I when I thought my daughter might have gotten lost getting back to the hotel. She called my travel agent at galapagosislands.com to try to help me find her, but luckily my daughter came back by herself. This was a beautiful hotel, with a lovely breakfast in the morning
