“Perfect Galapagos Honeymoon Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

Semilla Verde is a charming guest house in the highlands of Santa Cruz. The property itself is absolutely beautiful! We roamed the trails on the property to take in the giant tortoises, coffee plants, banana trees, roosters, and lovely vegetation. From the moment we arrived in Baltra, we were taken care of by Robert and his staff. Hugo, one of the go-to taxi drivers for Semilla Verde, was sent to pick us up from the airport and escort us to the property on Santa Cruz. Hugo is a delightful, hardworking man who drove us into town on numerous occasions during our stay at Semilla Verde. We were fortunate enough to stay in room 1, the largest room on the third floor, which has the best views of the property. We watched the sunset from the hammock on our porch. I worked with Robert months in advance to set up an itinerary for our trip. He was very accommodating and organized day trips for us to the surrounding islands. Robert also gave us a tour of the highlands, including a trip to a tortoise preserve in Santa Rosa, in which the tortoises roam free in their natural habitat. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our Galapagos trip! The staff at Semilla Verde was very friendly. We ate many meals at the lodge, which were prepared by either the staff or by Daysi, Robert's wife. Talk about delicious!! It was by far the best food that we had on our trip. There was only one other couple staying there at the same time as us, so most of the time it felt like we had an entire house and a personal chef to ourselves! We had one dinner by candlelight, accompanied by a lit fire and soothing music. It was a nice touch since we were on our honeymoon! Another night we had the pleasure of hanging out with the owner's daughter, who is simply adorable!! I love that a real family lives on the property. Do not let the distance to Puerto Ayora dissuade you from staying here. Puerto Ayora is a nice town with many restaurants and shops, but we were happy to head back to the tranquility of the highlands at the end of each day. Town is only a quick cab ride away and one round-trip cab ride per day was included! We will stay here again if we ever make it back to the Galapagos!!

Room Tip: Room #1 has a king size bed, a large closet, a hammock, and amazing views!

I stayed at Semilla Verde while leading a yoga retreat with The Travel Yogi. There is no over-hyping our stay- It was a DREAM! Rob's knowledge about the Islands is immeasurable. The staff, rooms, AMAZING FOOD, were all top notch. And the yoga studio with a view of Giant Tortoises... seriously it couldn't have been better. I cannot wait to go back - March 2015! Join me on this trip of a lifetime with the most amazing host: Rob!

From the moment we were greeted at the door, I felt cared for and appreciated. I was with a group of yogis and adventurers and Semilla Verde is the perfect place to stay with such a group. The yoga room opened up to the great outdoors. The 12 acres of hiking trails through the coffee plantation and seeking for the great tortoises who frequent the land made each day magical. Robert and Daisy are wonderful and knowledgeable hosts. Our day trips to the other islands were all handled with ease. I love it there and would gladly return.

this was absolutely magic. everyone here ,especially robert went to incredible lengths to make us all feel welcome and comfortable. the lodge itself is beautiful and well appointed to accomodate groups both large and small. the ladies in the villa also went to great efforts to make sure food allergies were addressed , and that any little wished for thing was met with a smile and graciousness. we simply could not have asked for anything more. the proximity to town and various tours were also easy. the fact that this gorgeous place has walking/running trails all around the marvelous coffee and fruit trees inhabited by tortoises was also of particular charm. i would HIGHLY recomend that everyone go here to experience something very special indeed that words fall short of describing. cheers to you all at "semilla verde" for the trip of a lifetime. a heartfelt than you...

Room Tip: any room was divine.....

We stayed at Semilla Verde for 5 nights in September. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. It was a 15-20 min taxi ride from town, but felt like a world away. The taxi drivers they arrange were both absolute loves, and Semilla Verde reimburses for one taxi ride per day.

Mary Lou was a gracious host. I was 8 weeks pregnant with some health concerns. She made sure to check on me, and was prepared to make necessary arrangements if anything wasn't right. She took care of arranging rides, tours, and spa reservations. We didn't realize that we were supposed to have hot water; one eveing, we mentioned it in passing to Mary Lou, and she had someone over to fix it within 20 minutes.

The food was fresh, tasty, and healthy, both breakfast and dinner. When we had an early tour, Mary Lou got up super early to make sure we had breakfast before we left. Room 1 was very comfortable with plenty of storage and a beautiful view. The other guests were lovely people from all over the world whom we enjoyed talking with.

My mom is considering a trip to Galapagos, and I won't recommend anywhere but Semilla Verde!

We stayed here for only 5 nights because originally when we booked the trip, Robert, the owner originally planned to close the hotel when he headed off to vacation, so we commited to other plans. Otherwise, we would have loved to stay an extra 4 more nights.

Semilla is located in the highlands but the hotel reimburses you one round trip taxi ride to town per day...can't beat that. And Peurto Ayora is only 15-20 minutes per taxi ride.

I can't say enough about how relaxing the area is. It is covered with trees, ferns, and coffee plants. You really fel like you are getting away from it all. Despite the lusciousness of the grounds, there are well manicured trails. We have 2 children and we felt very comfortable for the 8 and 5 years old to roam the whole place by themselves. The worse they can do is run into one of the giant tortoises.

They served the coffee that is grown right in the backyard and the hot breakfasts are cooked to your choice and liking every morning...none of that cold donuts continental buffet here. On occasion, we had the opportunity to have dinner there and boy, the restaurants in town have rivals at Semilla! The meals there just captures the essence home. You can taste the herbs grown in the backyard and the care that goes into the meal.

The entire place is geared towards mental and physical well being...as soon as the taxi turns into the driveway, you feel the pressure in your shoulders dissipate...the ground is well manicured with the lush greens grown around it, there are trails to take morning and nightly walks, there is a fitness room with cardio and hand weights, a yoga room hidden among the trees, the interior of the building is cozy and inviting.
