“Nice spot right on the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

Small place with clean and comfortable rooms, air conditioned and a lovely breakfast. Right on the beach, an upper deck and lower sun room to escape the sun while enjoying the beach. Excellent breakfast. Great place to while away an afternoon in a hammock! Owner speaks little English, but was easily able to help us with getting about. Amazing sunsets, very quiet.

Room Tip: Up stairs rooms are great !

We stayed at the Cormorant Beach House in January. Althought the location of this hotel is quite nice, right on the beach with beautiful views of the ocean, the place could use some sprucing up. The bathroom in our room was dirty. The sink didn't look like it had been cleaned and the mirror over the sink was dirty as well. When I opened the waste can near the toilet, a swarm of mosquitos flew out. There wasn't a separate dining area for breakfast in the morning. It was set up in the lounging area, which was right between two rooms, so it could get a little noisy for any guests wanting to sleep in. We were there only two nights, so it was all tolerable.

We stayed 2 nights at Cormorant as part of a land-based trip around the Galapagos. While this was definitely the most basic place we stayed, I actually liked it. The family who owns it speaks very little English but we managed to communicate our needs effectively, although it was impossible to ask more in-depth questions about things to do on the island (not their fault, of course, we probably should have brushed up on our Spanish before this trip!). We stayed in the upstairs room on the right (if you're looking at it from the beach). It was small but honestly we didn't have high expectations for $70 a night right on the beach. I thought it was a reasonable price for what is an excellent beachfront location. The deck between the two upstairs rooms has a terrific view and since it was cool at night we were able to sleep with the windows open and enjoy the sound of the waves all night. The beach in front of the house is just beautiful. They do have wifi but it doesn't really reach to the rooms (I was able to get it from the upstairs window occasionally) so if you need wifi it means standing outside the main house to use it. Breakfast was nothing fancy but suited our needs just fine.

We stayed 5 nights and really liked the athmosphere and the beautiful view just right on the beach. Staff is helpful and service is good. Rooms are tidy. No reasons to complain!

Yes, it is a House, but a terrible one. If we had a tent right on a beach it would have been way much better. Our plan was to stay three nights here, but after we saw the room and spent one night we decided cu go back to Santa Cruz Island. We received a room upstairs, the one on the right and the feeling I got when I entered was that I have to live in a very big coffin. Everything was poor and looked dirty. Every single piece of metal (door knobs for ex.) was rusty. The bathroom looked very dirty, we were afraid to take a shower but we had no choice. I really can't describe how bad looked everything but it was the worst experience in my life. During the night you could hear the ocean on one side, which was very nice, and a very annoying sound from plumbing installation on the other side. Every time when someone from the hotel flushed the toilet was like a storm for plumbing installation. In the morning, after just three hour sleep, we decided to go to breakfast, but after we saw how dirty the kitchen looked we went someplace else to eat, even the breakfast was already paid. We asked the other guests how the liked the hotel and every single one, after a short hesitation, admitted that they didn't expected to be like that. After one night we went out to search for another hotel and we found Volcano Hotel cross the street which was a little bit better. To be honest the only good hotel on this Island seemed to be Iguana Crossing but they didn't have anymore rooms available for us.
This hotel/house does't need to be refurbished. It needs to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch.

Room Tip: Please don't stay here!

This guesthouse is set in a beach-front property right next to the owner's family house. This will guarantee a very personal service in an laid back atmosphere.
The rooms downstairs have a door that leads right into the beach, while the upstairs rooms have a common balcony with beautiful ocean views. You can use both upstairs and downstairs, including the kitchen where breakfast is served upon previous request or that you can also use to prepare your own meals - there is also a mini fridge in the room, where you can keep your goodies.
There is WIFI in the common areas and rooms, but signal tends to be stronger across the road, by the porch of the tours office which belongs to the same owner.
The rooms and bathroom are basic, very clean and comfortable. And very importantly, they have AC which is really necessary as it gets really hot!
Water bottles are placed in your room upon arrival and free water refills are provided (big bottle is always kept in the kitchen) and you should use this one not only to drink but also to brush your teeth as water in Galapagos, in general, is not recommended for drinking or brushing.
Staying at the Cormorant you can just use their very own tours company to book trips to the volcanos, snorkeling trips to Tintoreras or Los Tuneles. They also rent snorkeling equipment as there are some close by sites you can go on your own without the need for a tour - for example, La Concha de Perla. Tour prices are decent and do not really vary much around town, so it's convenient to just book next door. I particularly recommend the Tintoreras tour, which is about 2.5 hrs and you can see a lot of animals: penguins, sea lions, turtles, young iguanas, etc..

I booked this hotel online by contacting the owners online. They do not take credit cards so I did not have to pay anything before I got there. They pick you up when you arrive at the dock. This is really useful as taxis in Isabela are not that common and it is a good one mile walk to the hotel.
The place is small and from the street it does not look like much, in fact you will see a small house next to the street. This is where the lady owner and his 93 year old mother live.
The place is right on the beach and if you stay on the first floor you have a common area that also has a small kitchen. Not the most beautiful kitchen in the world but it works. I cooked all of our breakfasts and two dinners there. They prepare breakfast for you but no later than 8:30 am and we were gone early to snorkel at Concha y perla to avoid the crowds that begin to arrive at around 9 am. So I told them to leave the eggs, bread etc in our refrigerator or in the kitchen and I fixed our brunch when we got back. You can see marine iguanas walking on the beach very close to the hotel as you eat your breakfasts. Also birds. You can walk to the lookout and see the marine iguanas nesting this time of year (February) or you can walk to lover's beach a good 2.5 mile walk on the beach. The beach is very clean and beautiful. The hotel is also close to the trail that will take you to the tortoise center, it is a very nice walk about 1 mile and it goes through lagoons (saw flamingos there a couple of time) and later open vegetation and finally a nice shaded forest just before you get to the center.
Many people come to the area where the hotel is located to see the sunset. The night sky was also very nice looking towards the ocean.
The hotel was $62 plus 12% tax and I forgot to mention that the rooms have a small refrigerator. Good AC and hot water and our king size bed was ok. There is a store (the pelican) almost next door where you can buy very cold water which is really needed this time of year with the heat and humidity. This place is somewhat rustic and it needs some maintenance especially outside, but as I said the room was adequate for our needs.

In general even though there are fancier placer and higher prices (some $250 and up per night) I would return to this hotel which met my needs and provided us with incredible beach location.

Room Tip: Upstairs has higher views of the ocean, but downstairs you have a common living room area with sofas...
