Prior to going to Abidjan and staying in this hotel, I read that the hotel manager and three guests had been kidnapped from the hotel, murdered and their bodies dumped in the lagoon. There is actually a plaque in the reception commemorating this event. I had also been many times to Lagos in Nigeria and so coupled with the murder story, my expectations of any hotel in West Africa were low to say the least. Knowing I would be staying 7 days with little chance to even leave the hotel, I was rather dreading it.
There are good and bad things about this hotel. It is reasonably clean and reasonably friendly, The staff do make an effort but most are awfully slow. Try to check out quickly or to get a drink on the terrace bar and you will know what I mean! The rooms are extremely faded and with minimal facilities. There are only two English TV channels both of them for news. So if you stay a while as I did make sure you have something to entertain yourself with. One night I was without running water for sveral hours - there was no explanation or apology
After the dreadful breakfasts in Lagos hotels the breakfast buffett here was not bad. The French influence means great pastries and bread in particular. You can have some fresh fruits, yoghurt and some decent hot dishes as well. However I felt 24USD for breakfast a bit steep given that this is probably a weekly salary for many people in the city. The dinner buffet is also not bad but likewise expensive
We had free wi fi in the rooms and public areas, all of which was fast and reliable
Our conference facilities were okay and the staff were helpful in setting thisngs up and getting things organised. All the equipment worked and there were no difficulties
I think many reviewers sum up this hotel in the same way. Its not great but its not bad and for business i would stay again as there are more positives than negative
