The Tropicana is one of my (and my boyfriends) favorite places to stay in Atlantic City. Yes, it is a bit of a distance from the other casinos, but it offers so much that you don't need to go to the others. There's multiple restaurants, shops, and entertainment for every taste.
Recently, we went and stayed in a regular room in the Havana Tower (usually we stay in the West Tower in a jacuzzi suite) and thought it was a bit overrated. The room was nice, but average in style - for all the recognition and price difference, we expected a bit more glitz and at least a refrigerator or small sofa (neither were in the room). The Havana Tower is definitely convenient to all the happennings, so that probably explains the cost. If you have a choice, the West Tower in a jacuzzi suite is very nice or just the West Tower in general will due if you don't mind walking just a bit to get to all the entertainment.
The Tropicana is quite helpful and has usually given us a free upgrade (Sun. - Thurs.) when we asked nicely. Room service, when we used it, was slow and food was cold, so we opt for eating outside of the room. The breakfast buffet isn't that great, but the dinner one is ok.
We really like the Tropicana for its entertainment and all-in-one convenience. We're not much of gamblers, so can't really comment on the slots/tables. The servie is pretty good and the rooms are nice.
