We (family of 4, with boys aged 5 and 1) spent 4 night at the Tropicana in mid-august. We had a pretty good time, but "your mileage may vary".

The whole reason I was at a casino with 2 little kids (!) was due to the great deal I found. In mid-august, if you want a hotel on the beach in NJ, it can be pretty expensive. The tropicana had great rates for the weekdays on its web site ($125/night). They also had a special AAA package for 2 night stay. We took two of those to make it 4 nights. So, we got to upgrade to a suite, stay on 48 floor with decent day and night view, towel service on the beach, magic show tickets, breakfast buffet coupons, availability of ice-cream and coffee 24 hrs a day. I must admit we had a good time.

Clearly, other people with kids had the same idea. We saw plenty of kids walking through the casino in wet swimming clothes and sandy flip-flops. I am guessing that didnt make the gamblers too happy, but it made me feel comfortable with my kids.

But, why am I not giving this hotel a better review ? Here goes...

It is a huge hotel. So, you have to get there at check-in time to get good rooms, free upgrades. etc. That means you will stand in line for a while. You will also find the lines at the buffet restaurant, casual restaurant and the box office window. I shall assume that like me, you dont like waiting in line during your vacation.

- The quality of the room (west tower) was more in line with a Howard Johnson, not a luxury hotel.
- The ironing board had broken leg.
- The concierge was not very helpful, almost rude.
- The beach service staff could use some training.

If I hadnt got the good deal and was actually expecting a luxury hotel, I would have been pretty disappointed.

Anyway, the latin quarter was nice, even if cheesy. The food at PF Changs was great. The boardwalk was fun. The weather was great.

Hope your vacation turns out as nicely.

I went with another couple with their children.
We asked for nonsmoking rooms for the family with the children.
They were given a smoking room. After needless calls, the room was changed. The bathrooms are cheaply decored with no towel racks. This I had noticed on a previous visit there in July. After our first night there, we all noticed how the beds were not made correctly. You actually woke up on the mattress because the sheets did not fit the beds.

I had to call the front desk to complain about a foods tray left out for 2 days in the hallway. The housekeeping staff just walked around the tray.
After my call to the front desk, the tray finally disappeared.

There was a 20 minute wait for a party of 6 to eat in the Sidewalk Cafe.
Basically, the restaurant was not crowded.

Lastly, the day I was supposed to leave, I got terribly sick and my husband asked for a short extension to stay in the room with also calling the house doctor. However, the nurse understood. Needless to say, we had to leave the room promptly at 1. It will be a long time before we stay at that hotel again. I believe that the hotel owners extended themselves with the Havana part, and are neglecting the older parts of the hotel. What a shame.
It can be a fun hotel but it is not catering to the guests.

My husband and I chose the Tropicana Hotel for a one night stay on Aug. 18th to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked a room in the new Havanna Tower. We should have stayed home and we probably would have had a better time. We arrived for check-in around 5:30 and were told there were no non-smoking rooms with a king size bed left as we had reserved. The receptionist tried to move us to a smoking room until we refused. We finally got a non-smoking room with 2 beds but we had to wait over an hour for the room to be cleaned. Sleeping in the bed will make you think you are in a low-budget motel. It was hard and the sheets are so cheap, with holes and stains, that you can see through them. The bottom sheet is not a fitted sheet, just another flat sheet tucked in, so it doesn't stay tucked in. The toilet paper, kleenex, and amenities are the cheapest I have ever seen. The staff was not helpful at all with directions. We ate dinner at Corky's Bar-B-Que. It was just OK. We had tickets to an 8:00 show so we didn't have alot of options since we had to wait so long to get our luggage and get into our room. We will definitely go back to the Borgata next time and will never return to the Tropicana.

We traveled to Tropicana for a two-night stay (Mon & Tues) in August. Thank goodness we stayed in the newer Havana Tower. The room was spacious, clean and in overall good condition. It also had a hair dryer and a mini fridge. We went to the other towers to check out the pools. Both indoor and outdoor pools were VERY small and in poor condition for such a large supposedly-luxury hotel. The halls in the other towers seemed to be in sad shape and the elevators barely worked so I was glad my boyfriend splurged for the fancier Havana room.
BUT--It was a real struggle to get the Havana non-smoking room. We arrived after 12noon. We waited in the check-in line and were told by a rude man there were no non-smoking Havana rooms available yet but he would reserve us one. We were given a phone number to call periodically (in an hour or two) to find out if the room was ready. We tried the number several times until about 3pm and it would ring 30 times and no one ever picked up. We then tried to call the guest services number on the house phones which just went to someone's voice mail. Finally, after 3pm we returned to the check-in desk. We waited in line yet again figuring 3 hours had passed so our non-smoking Havana room would be ready. It was not. I don't know how such a large hotel with check-out at 12noon can not have a reserved room ready in 3 hours? Luckily, this time we got a woman at the desk. She was much nicer. The couple next to us at the desk was struggling with the rude man who was refusing to give them a non-smoking room also. The woman finally found us a Havana non-smoking room. We had to get upset though and tell her how we were there 3 hours earlier and how no one picked up the phone number we were given, etc. This hotel obviously needs to make some more of their rooms non-smoking. But most importantly this hotel needs to give their staff some hospitality training. Throughout the hotel, the staff seemed miserable. We didn't encounter one pleasant employee. Ask a simple question or for directions and you might get a sarcastic response..quite shocking. Customer Service should be their job...they need some help...desperately.
PS: Carmine's was great..good food and nice staff.

Our Family of four just returned from a "fantastic" 4 night get a way. The Tropicana resort was beautiful and the service was great, we booked a room with two Queen beds but to our surprise when we went to check in not only did we have no wait but the kind woman at the desk named Silvia bumped us to a suite with a fridge at no extra charge"Thanks again Silvia" and the room had a great view of both the beach and the city on the 45th floor the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel was located directly on the boardwalk and beach. This hotel has many little stores located on the main floor and many stands that serve up delicious Ice cream and treats. We highly recomend The Tropicana in Atlantic City as the place to go for good clean comfort and a good time.
