My Husband and I stayed at Tropicana over the Fathers day weekend. My husband is wheelchair bound and when I had made reservations, I expressed my need for a handicap room. I will say that I was concerned that I would not be able to get what I needed but read below and see what happened.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a very friendly doorman. He was extremely kind and helped get my luggage and wheelchair from the car. He advised me where to go and check-in and we were on our way. He was patient even though there were alot of cars in the driveway.
Upon entering the lobby, there was a line of people checking in. I was immediately pulled from the check-in line by a man who was a greeter and said he would have the next available clerk help us. He then motioned me to the next available clerk. The clerks name was Rob and he was very nice. He confirmed my request for a handicap room and offered me one in the North Tower and explained the directions to get there. I asked if the room was close and he said the that it was a bit of a walk from the front desk. He then said he would see if he could move us closer and walked over to a man dressed in a suit who was standing behind the clerks. They both came back to where I was and the man in the suit named Don said he would upgrade our room and assign us a room in the South Tower to make it easier for us. He said it would take a few moments to make the change and he thenwent about the changes to our reservations. He completed the change and handed me his business card and said to contact him if we needed anything to make the stay more comfortable. I aksed if the room had a shower chair and he said he would have a transfer chair brought to our suite immediately. Rob the completed the check-in and gave us directions to the elevators and asked if we needed luggage help. He said he would have the luggage brouyght to the room. My Husband and I were very pleased and appreciative that these two men were so kind.
We arrived at our room and were very happy with it. The bathroom was set up very well and the room itself was quite large and clean. My Husband was pleased and loved the view. About 15 minutes later, the a knock at the door meant the shower chair was here along with our luggage. The bellman John was so friendly.
After unwinding, we made our way to the casino and we had a great time though we did not win. We walked through the Quarter and thoughjt it was beautiful. We enjoyed lunch at Carmines. After a while, we asked a security guard for directions to the boardwalk and he directed us to the elevator to get my husband and the wheelchair down to the boardwalk level. His name was Devin. Later that night we enjoyed a drink and music in the lounge and turned in for the night.
All in all, we had a great time and feel that Tropicana really cares about its customers with physical challanges. The Tropicana is overwhelming in size but after a while, you find that it is quite manageable. I also did not encounter any areas that I could not get my husband and the wheelchair to.
The hotel and the staff were excellent and my husband is already wanting to return to a place he feels comfortable in. You can be sure I will let my friends know about Tropicana.
