We booked our room online a few hours before checking in on the spur of the moment. We got a great rate and room...the casino and attached mall and restaurants are wonderful. You never need to leave the Tropicana. We decided to go for a swim in the outdoor pool but upon arrival found out that the pool was packed...you could not stir the people with a stick! So we proceeded to the indoor pool and it was just as bad but we stuck it out and had to fight to get a lounge chair...tons of kids splashing and doing cannon balls into pool...only three people could fit in the hot tub at a time...the pools are not sufficient for a hotel this size...need more and bigger swimming pools. The self park is a nightmare for getting your luggage in and out of the building...no carts could be found and we hauled our own luggage all through the casino and then up the elevator to our room after carrying it all through the mall also...terrible way to handle...front desk people should instruct on a better way of getting luggage to rooms...next time we will use the valet parking and the bellman but had no idea it would be such a problem for self parking until it was too late. The front desk clerk was very rude at checkout when I questioned about a $1.00 charge for a local call on our bill...the only call we made was to the concierge desk to ask about getting tickets to the show...we never could get the concierge desk to pick up phone...only got voicemail message the two times we called. Our room was great and we had a wonderful view of the beach...the check in clerk at the concierge desk was wonderful and very helpful in every way. We ate at the Irish Pub and had shephards pie and non alcohol beer a very good meal at a reasonable price. Would try the Italian next time. We plan to go back and hope they have resolved the pool and parking problems by that time...never had to sign a release to swim in a hotel pool before...that was very strange and uncalled for...seems low class...just wanted to go in and swim and not have to fill out all kinds of legal papers to go for a swim.

  • Liked — the room was great and concierge desk was great
  • Disliked — self parking location, front desk check out clerk was rude, swimming pools

Stayed July 16-18, which were weekdays. We were 5 friends in 2 rooms. Paid lowest regular rate, no comps or deals, but were upgraded upon arrival to Havana tower. Adjacent rooms with connecting door were lovely, clean etc. We had planned to stay at Harrah's, which had been recommended by friends, but decided not to when I read here that 3 separate incidents of mice had been noted in June and July at Harrah's. That was a deal-breaker for us , so we chose the Tropicana.
The out door pool, with its large deck and snack bar with umbrella tables was delightful. We enjoyed lunch at Ri-Ra, dinner at P.F. Changs and a show at the Comedy Stop. Be sure to look at the coupons you get at check in we saved $ at lunch and $5 off each ticket tothe comedy show. Staff was fine. Only complaint was lumpy mattress on the rollaway bed. Regular beds were excellent. I recommend the tropicana.

  • Liked — clean, nicelly decorated rooms, great views
  • Disliked — rollaway bed was saggy and lumpy

I hope the management of The Trop takes the time to read these reviews. If they intend to stay in business they need to address some things. Most importantly THE STAFF! I can overlook some minor problem at a hotel or restaurant if the the staff is professional and helpful. This is sorely lacking at the Trop. Every staff member I encountered acted as though they were being inconvenienced by my arrival. Smiles? none. Eye contact? Minimal. Clear answers to questions? None. The room was not bad, the carpet appeared new but the bedclothes looked shabby. The hallway was also shabby and pooly cleaned. The location of the Trop is rather far from the center of the Boardwalk and the guys manning the pedicabs looked dangerous. Atlantic City as a whole is a bit of a joke and the Trop is doing nothing to make it better.

Because of some scary reviews on this site, we were a little afraid of what we might find when we got to the Tropicana. We are just your average, late twenties couple, looking to spend some time relaxing. I was afraid we would get there and have a bad room, or a big hassle, or some of the other problems other reviewers complained of.

Our fears were immediately relieved. The hotel is beautiful. I knew that the deal breaker would be the room. We didn't check in at the front lobby, but instead right at a desk in The Quarter by the parking deck entrance. We had booked West Tower, but when we checked in and were handed our key, we had North Tower.

Finding our room was the worst and most difficult experience of our whole trip. This is my only complaint, the hotel is TOO big. Maybe if we had checked in at the main lobby, we would have had assistance finding our room. At the little desk where we checked in we were given curt instructions and left to our own devices. Carrying all my luggage and walking through who knows how many lovely corridors looking for my elevator is not my idea of a good time.

Once we found our hotel room we were happy once again. It was very large (pictures are posted), clean, and had a pleasing decor. Now we knew we would have a lovely trip. Throughout the trip I was glad to have such a nice and relaxing location to call our temporary home. The housekeeping staff on our floor was also exceptionally friendly and helpful.

The map of the hotel was missing from our little "guest information" booklet in our room so we were on our own to figure out how to get anywhere. It is a VERY large hotel and boasts more rooms than any other on the boardwalk. By the end of our trip, we were pros at finding our way around although we had some frustrating moments until then. Usually if we were lost we were able to find a hotel employee and they were more than happy to help us out.

Another item of interest for potential guests might be the pool. The Tropicana does have an outdoor pool. It is not open year round, but it was while we were there. It is quite small, but the area up by the pool is quite nice and has a nice view over the beach. It is on the 6th floor of the North Tower.

As a guest, you would never need to leave the Tropicana if you didn't want to. There are so many things to see and do right inside the resort. Huge casinos, many fine shops, a small gourmet grocery store, and many restaurants. When it comes to restaurants, guests have a wide and varying selection. The restaurants downstairs in The Quarter where quite expensive, but there are other options throughout the hotel. My favorite was Ri-Rah, the Irish restaurant upstairs in The Quarter. The service was great, the food was excellent, and the prices were right. Corky's, which is downstairs on the boardwalk next to Hooters, was also a nice pick for an inexpensive family meal. We had a small quick lunch before heading out to the beach at A dam Good Deli, which was nice. We loved the little international style grocery, Zeytinia where we got gelato or Cheesecake Factory cheesecake at night and coffee and pastries in the morning.

Overall, we had a lovely time in Atlantic City and I'm glad that there is such a lovely property for visitors to call home.

This was my second time staying at the Tropicana. Things were better than my last stay, but some uneven service/room issues prevented it from being a great stay. I checked in for my birthday weekend and was upgraded to a mini-suite in the Havana Tower. I didn't know that I had to traverse across the whole property to get to the room. It was a nice sized room with a view of the beach and ocean, but I could have done without the hole in the wall. As far as the bathroom, there was not a full complement of towels and the shower did not drain properly so there was standing water. To the Tropicana's credit, they remedied both issues pretty quickly. Those were the only issues I had with the room. I enjoyed being in the Havana Tower because it provided easy access to the restaurants, IMAX theatre, shops, and casino. Since I'm getting Diamond Club points from gambling in the casino, I'll continue to stay at the Tropicana for awhile and let them work out the kinks.
