We probably didn't show up as the typical AC visitors. Our visit to the Tropicana was a spontaneous field trip which included 3 kids (8 months, 3 years and 5 years). We drove to Atlantic City thinking the kids would get a kick out of the lights and the boardwalk and proximity to a beach. It's January, though, so we thought it would be fun to spend a night somewhere where we could potentially be entertained without ever going outside. Tropicana has and indoor pool, the equivalent of a little mall inside with an IMAX theater, as well as casinos. Rooms were reasonable ($187, though we were quoted $100 more by a 1-888-ACrooms # that we called from just outside the hotel) and available, so we checked in.
It was pretty much what we expected. A couple of decent restaurant choices inside (P.F Changs, Carmines and several others), a comfortable room with a view of the boardwalk/beach, an indoor pool, and of course, a casino. The staff was very accommodating. I'd opt for other casinos, but it was great being right on the boardwalk with access to everything.
If you're in the mood for Atlantic City, this place is probably just the thing.
