We probably didn't show up as the typical AC visitors. Our visit to the Tropicana was a spontaneous field trip which included 3 kids (8 months, 3 years and 5 years). We drove to Atlantic City thinking the kids would get a kick out of the lights and the boardwalk and proximity to a beach. It's January, though, so we thought it would be fun to spend a night somewhere where we could potentially be entertained without ever going outside. Tropicana has and indoor pool, the equivalent of a little mall inside with an IMAX theater, as well as casinos. Rooms were reasonable ($187, though we were quoted $100 more by a 1-888-ACrooms # that we called from just outside the hotel) and available, so we checked in.

It was pretty much what we expected. A couple of decent restaurant choices inside (P.F Changs, Carmines and several others), a comfortable room with a view of the boardwalk/beach, an indoor pool, and of course, a casino. The staff was very accommodating. I'd opt for other casinos, but it was great being right on the boardwalk with access to everything.

If you're in the mood for Atlantic City, this place is probably just the thing.

My friends and I stayed at this hotel on a weekend get-away. It is a nice hotel. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The only problem we had was the water in the shower did not get hot, is was warm at best. This may not bother most people. I'm someone who likes HOT showers. We did mention this when we checked out and they discounted our room.
The price for this hotel during the week is great. The weekend is a different story. We paid around $500 for 2 nights. (Friday & Saturday) I think this is a little pricey.
The casino is huge, but do not expect the dealers to be friendly. I don't want to sit and chit chat, but a smile would be nice, especially when you win. We spent most of our time gambling at the Hilton, located down the boardwalk. It is about a 5 minute walk. The dealers were much better there.
All in all I would give this hotel an 8 out of 10.

Recently went down to Atlantic City for a Saturday night getaway with my wife. I admit I was a bit hesitant to stay at the Trop after reading a lot of negative reviews on this website. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Check in was quick and the hotel staff efficient and attentive. We stayed in the newer Havana Tower. The room was clean, bed and pillows comfortable. There are lots of shops for browsing. I bought myself some dress shirts at Brooks Brothers, my wife got herself a small piece of jewelry at Brandeis Jewelers. We ate dinner at Cuba Libre, which I would definitely recommend. PF Changs and Carmines were too crowded and we couldn't get in, which was just as well. Those chain restaurants are good, but I believe over-rated. Afterwards, we gambled in the casino. My wife played roulette, and I played blackjack. It was nice being in a casino where you could breathe without having cigarette smoke blown in your face. For a Saturday night, it was not too crowded, probably because it was right after New Year's. All in all, a good experience for a quick getaway.

  • Liked — The shops and restaurants in the Havana Tower
  • Disliked — a little noisy--but hey--it's Atlantic City

I am a frequent visitor to Atlantic City. I usually stay ay one of the Harrah’s properties but decided to stay at the Trop for a change. This is a change that I regret. This hotel offered the worst experience I have had at a hotel!

The adventure began the 1st night. The elevators in the hotel were absolutely terrible. I literally waited over 10 (yes ten) minutes for an elevator. To top it off, this was the first of many long waits for an elevator.

Next was the room. I am not sure if the laundry service was out of order or if they don’t wash the sheets. Enough said here!

The pool area was no better. There was mud and dirt under the chairs on Friday. The same mud and dirt was under the chairs Sunday morning!

Last and most disturbing was the noise. First of all the walls are paper thin. You could hear every word said by the people in the room next to us. Then, Friday night people were in the halls yelling, screaming, slamming doors, etc. NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT THIS! I guess the security and hotel staff did not find it important. I have never had an experience like this. There was literally a party in the hall outside my room and all complaints were ignored.

As I mentioned above, I have been to AC numerous times and NEVER had an experience like this. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO THE TROPICANA and I recommend that you stay away!

Eh... we stayed here one night and thank goodness that was all. I must have stayed in a different bed because I dont remember the sheets being anything worth bragging about. In fact, there isnt one thing I'd brag about regarding this hotel. The rooms were very cheap. The bathroom was big but other than that what a waste of money. We stayed at a Marriott in Philly the next two nights and it was WAY nicer than these rooms. I wouldnt return.
