This was my first stay at the Trump Plaza, and it was a bad experience overall. We were first checked into a very small room in the main building with a partially obstructed view of the beach. The bed mattress was uncomfortably soft (actually made my back hurt), the room had only one power outlet, and the air conditioner didn't work. I called for maintenance to fix the air conditioner at 10pm that evening, after waiting 45 minutes without maintenance arriving I called back, waited another 45 minutes and called again. Maintenance finally showed up around 1 pm. The maintenance guy told me that the air conditioners work by using a motion sensor. The motion sensor turns off the air conditioner when it senses no motion, unfortunately, that means that when you lie down on the bed, the air conditioner cuts off. What a great feature! Saves money, makes guests miserable. The maintenance man said he adjusted the "VIP" setting for us, lol. The air conditioner still didn't work after his "VIP" adjustment. After reporting all the problems to the front desk manager the next morning, we were upgraded at no additional charge to a small suite in the East Tower. The air conditioning worked well. The bed was a vast improvement, much firmer mattress and more comfortable. Once we were settled in this room, I decided to try the Internet service. I was aware of the exorbitant $12.99 per day Internet service fee, slightly annoyed at that, plus the fact they the hotel didn't provide wireless (free or paid) Internet access. After a laborious signup process, I was able to log on. After just 5 minutes, I began losing my connection intermittently. This continued for another few minutes. I called the front desk which connected me to the Internet provider's support line. After explaining my issue, the technician said he would reboot the modem remotely. He did so and then asked me to try browsing the web again. The connection continued to fail. I then requested a refund and cancelled the service. Sometime later I discovered a Starbucks tucked away in the farthest corner of the lobby level. This Starbucks provides FREE wireless Internet access. The next day I decided to inquire further with the hotel staff about this. I spoke with a hotel operator and asked her if there was any free wireless access in the hotel, and she told me that there was none. Amazing! Don't pay for the $12.99 Internet service when you can go to the Starbucks in the lobby and use their wireless AP for FREE! = $0 dollars. Friendly and competent members of the hotel staff include the bellmen, the housekeepers and the efficient and quick valet service. Front desk personnel seemed cool and distant, not particularly friendly. Not many smiles from that bunch for sure. My review of the casino: My first pull on a slot machine didn't register and I lost my first play. I asked a casino employee to refund me due to a malfunctioning machine and they refused. They eventually changed their mind after I persisted and they refunded me, but not without a fight. During my stay here I noticed countless slot machines with "out of order" signs. Not a good sign. On more than one occasion, drink hostesses passed me by without offering me a drink while they would offer the person sitting next to me a drink. And there weren't too many drink hostesses to begin with. The friendliest and most helpful bunch in the casino was definitely the security personnel. Always available to answer any question and give directions. We did notice some seedy looking people in and around the casino, however, overall, the security in the hotel/casino was very good. The hotel/casino is in a very good location, right on the boardwalk, and close to tourist shops, food, etc. However, based upon my complete experience, I cannot recommend the Trump Plaza.

I don't have any big complaints about this hotel. All it is is a hotel with a casino. The hotel facilities were almost non-existent, but I just needed a clean room, which I received with a nice view of the Atlantic. Found that the rooms walls were a bit thin and I could hear some other room, but other than that, everything was fine. If there were no other hotels in Atlantic City I would stay here again, but because there are, I will try other ones that seem to have better reviews.

I stayed at this hotel at the end of March 2007 for the Antique show and overall the room awas not bad. There was a lot of gold which can be tacky but that is just Trump fashion. The room was a good size and we had an amazing view of the boardwalk and the beach. My only complaint is that we had a group of what sounded like teenagers next to us and they were very loud and I'm young and I understand you're there have a good time, but it was unnecessary. It went on till 4:30 am and the loudness turned into a bitter screaming fight that lasted for 3 hours and calls down stairs did not help. I left feeling like I knew all the dirty laundry of this particular couple and was so tired! I know that shouldn't affect my overall rating of this hotel, but because no one ever came to ask them to lower the volume it does affect it a bit.

  • Liked — The view was amazing
  • Disliked — The loud rowdy people next door that were not taking care of

I went to A.C. with the UNC Charlotte pep band and cheerleaders for the 2008 Atlantic 10 basketball tournament in Boardwalk Hall. (Go Niners!) We arrived late, about 2:00 am on a Wednesday morning, with a group of about 60 or so college students. I was surprised that we only had to wait around in the lobby for about 20 min. before our band director was passing out keys to all our rooms. The first thing my roommates and I did was open our computers and try to get on the internet, (who wants to sleep after an 11 hour bus ride?) only to discover there is a charge of $13 a day to use the internet service, so we decided to go without internet for the duration of our stay. Soon after, we went to bed. I must say I thought my bed at home was comfortable, but it is like sleeping on a pile of bricks compared to the incredibly comfortable beds at the plaza. Anyway, I had read reviews on here about it being dirty and a dump, but that was most certainly not the case with our room. It was very clean, including the bathroom and shower. The room had somewhat of an ocean view, but mostly it was the hotel roof and the roof of Boardwalk Hall. I only went through through the casino once, drunk, while my friend was talking to me on the phone triyng to tell me where he was in the casino, but it looked nice and all. Our bus driver said he had won over $4000 during our 3 night stay. One of the biggest perks of staying here is the location. It is right on the boardwalk, just a minute's walk to all sorts of food and shopping. Our band director tried to figure out how we could go through the connector to Boardwalk Hall with all of our equipment, but they told us it is closed, which really didn't matter because bands and cheerleaders had to use the entrance on the opposite side of the arena anyway. I know this is a very expensive place, but it didn't matter to us because the university covered all of our costs for the trip. If you're willing to pay to stay at the Trump Plaza, go for it, I think it is much nicer than all the reviews on here say.

Stayed one Sunday night since Foxwoods was unavailable. This was my first visit in about 10 years to A.C. Trump Plaza was completely renovated in the time since and was perfectly acceptable by A.C. standards (which are low).

The room decor is sufficiently neutral -- some may find it a bit gauche. Good climate control, comfortable bed, refrigerator in room, personal coffeemaker, etc. Good water pressure. All the basics.

Some aspects of the property still show their age -- the clock-radio was from the 1970s (but works), the bathroom fixtures were not renovated (I couldn't have taken a bath had I wanted to), all the doors are scuffed, some paneled mirrors in the corridors are cracked, etc.

The biggest headache is the elevator system. The casino and meeting rooms are above the check-in level, so they invariably stop for throngs of one-floor-only traffic. Also, the elevators are the type that require you to insert your room key to access the room floors -- which appears to be a surprisingly insurmountable intellectual challenge for many elderly guests.

Check-in staff were friendly if a bit harried (again, that's par for the course with any casino-hotel). I was, however, annoyed that she tried to coax me into waiting until 6PM for my king bed rather than a two-doubles room that was available right away (I had to specifically ask).

Casino was adequate -- good card game staff, poor waitress service (this was early Monday morning; other times may be different). Lots of non-smoking areas.

Had a room service hamburger, which was VERY good.

Bottom line: I certainly wouldn't pay over $200 for a room, but if you can score a deal for $100 or less, as I did, then go for it.

  • Liked — Condition of room.
  • Disliked — Inefficient check-in process.
