This was my first time back to Harrah's in over a year. What originally attracted my husband and I to Harrah's is the on site Elizabeth Arden spa and our fave seafood restaurant, McCormick and Schmick's. However, what kept us away so long is that Harrah's has this policy that the room type you reserve is not guaranteed. So if you reserve a room in the newer and much better Waterfront you can get the older side of the hotel which is Marina. Also, the hotel has a pool which after hours turns into a club attracting the twenty somethings who depending where they're located in the hotel can be a nuisance. Fortunately this trip was much better - we stayed in the room we actually reserved online and there were less of the partiers (although Rob Kardashian was going to be at the club - go figure!). I think the key is when you go. Fall is much better and less crowded than Spring. We never go in Summer (peak) bc very expensive and def more people. A big plus is that Harrah's now has on site the Mexican restaurant, Dos Caminos. We were seated right away and the staff particularly the manager were very nice. Only thing, don't let them sit you in front of the chef. It's a narrow aisle and you risk being hit upside the head with a waiter's tray. Otherwise, a pleasant experience and great food and drink. Again, Harrah's on site amenities are the draw. McCormick and Schmick's is always a must do. Although one located where we live in NYC we prefer this one better. The restaurant has these awesome booths with curtains that although we never close are semi-private. And the food is always amazing. Reservations are recommended and can be made online. Also, a big plus is that Harrah's is located furthest away from the boardwalk hotels. That area looks a bit seedy although closest to the outlet shopping. But $2.25 can get you a ride on the jitney (which appear to all have been upgraded) over to the Boardwalk where there is shopping and dining. One thing I did notice this trip was the customer service of the Harrah's employees (a clerk in the cafe and a security guard) was less than stellar. Whereas the restaurant employees were outstanding. Again, we really go for the dining experience along with the shopping (the outlet shop employess are also very helpful which is quite refreshing.) Harrah's is def a recommended weekend getaway. You don't have to gamble to enjoy yourself. I would just suggest you attempt to get a room on the Waterfront/Bayview side of the hotel.
