“Howard Johnson Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

I got to say the price I got for 4 days was great .. Well rooms are clean air condition ,cable tv . swimming pool plus other .it a great deal .and its 1 block and half away from the boardwalk.
I went with my wife and 2 kids

I would go again to HJ Inn ..

What I didn't like is the area where it is. but thats nothing..

It wasn't bad but it was in the ghetto and there was a homeless shelter across the street, the outlets to plug in anything didn't work so I couldn't charge my phone or camera/kindle fire,we asked for a cot and they had none, the only upside was the papa Johns food we ordered lol

The hotel is extremely clean. The staff is friendly and helpful.
We stayed 5 nights. Beds were changed daily, clean quiet rooms. We went to AC for ten years and have always stayed at the Tropicana. Last year due to a family function we could not go. When we called this year they wanted $149 plus a night. I went on Line and got a great deal at this hotel. Worried on the trip done what we would get. We have now decided that when we go next year we will stay here again. If you are thinking of going to AC, stay here. Perry's resturant with an entrance from the lobby is next door. It is clean, extremely efficent service and great food at a reasonable price. No longer than a 5 minute wait after you order. Like I said we Loved this place. Can't wait until next year!

Every year my girlfriends and I get together for a fun weekend. We are in our 60's and can be demanding for the staff of any hotel. From the front desk clerks to the lifeguard at the pool, everyone was friendly and so accommodating ! Whether it was a request for towels at the pool or a late check-out, not only were they responsive, they said yes with a smile. This Howard Johnson's was a very well run operation with clean rooms and a nice swimming pool. Right next door is a little cafe for breakfast or lunch and two doors away is the best pizza on the planet for that late night snack. This end of Atlantic City reminded me of the 50's before the Casino's came. Be sure to checkout the Irish Pub just one block away on St. James.

My hubby and I stayed at this location for 2 nights 3 days, the night before check out my African American husband gets stopped while going on the elevator 2hotel employees asking "are you a guest here? " hubby replies yes I have the key card they became rude because they claim they came in at a certain time and didn't come my hubby since they were there A LIE we came n from dinner after 5 and the same 2 workers were there looked at him enter and watched him leave, when he returned after leaving another time they insisted that he wasn't a guest and called the cops whom came and basically he was allowed to come back to the room they judged him because of his skin and thought he was going to be escorted out! We won't ever come back to this hotel again.

Was a little pricey for what you get. Would recommend getting one the rooms in the inside of the building rather than the outside of the building (annex). We had a room in the outside and it was significantly smaller and outdated. Peeked inside one of the inside rooms and they were much roomier and looked newer. No bed bugs or cockroaches found. TV was the old tube type but they had free wi-fi. AC worked great and shower temp was fine. Free parking as well and even let us park in the lot after we had checked out for the rest of the day. Breakfast wasn't complimentary. Best thing was that it was a short walk to the boardwalk, however it was a little sketchy at night. Wouldn't recommend walking that part alone.

Room Tip: Stay in the inner part of the building, rooms are larger and newer.

This was the 2nd stay and was very pleased again. The room was clean. A little outdated but worth the value. Walking distance to boardwalk and when we arrived we booked smoking as that was only availability online however they gave us a non smoking room in a section of the hotel that was quiet. The only thing it's not in the best part of town but we still felt save. Would stay here again.
