Stayed for one night 5/24 - 5/25, this was my second stay in the last 6 months. Room was comped as I am a fairly heavy player. Stayed in one of the renovated rooms in the Bourbon tower.

Check-in was quick, under 5 minutes, however I am a Diamond card holder, where you get your own priority line so things move swiftly. Wanted king smoking, but all that they had left was 2 doubles smoking. Took it. Front Desk warned me about the construction outside (between Showboat and the Taj) which starts at 8:30 AM. I asked to be put on a high floor which they obliged. Didn't hear any construction noise during the stay. However I could hear other people toilets flushing faintly. Not that big a deal, and you get used to it after awhile.

Room was newly renovated with 2 queens, a large window facing the Taj but you also had a nice view of the ocean. Had a desk and a small round table with 2 chairs in front of the window so you could sit and watch the ocean or whatever. Shades were completely room darkening. This is important when you want to sleep till 1pm! Bathroom was spacious with marble countertops. My only complaint was the showerhead was maybe at the 5 foot level. This does me no good as I am 6'4". No biggie however.

The room included a large flat panel LCD, which did receive some HD channels (around 8), which was nice. Picture quality on the HD channels was excellent.

Ate an early dinner at the French Quarter buffet. Very large buffet and was decent, however nothing stood out as being great. Very large selection, only one carving station however and the roast beef was so-so. Waits were average for the 5:30 pm dinner crowd. They did have cheesecake at the desert bar, which most buffets don't, so that was a nice touch. Waitress service was good.

Also had room service the next morning. Had an omelette, came with home fries, toast and 2 muffins (unexpected) all which were good. Came within 30 minutes. Best part the check was $20. That's a bargain!

Casino is decent. I am video poker player and go to the Showboat as they have a good selection. Couldn't hit the 1st day but did OK the second. That's the way it goes... I don't really play the slots unless I am too lazy to go outside to smoke. Atmosphere is good, typically an older crowd, which some early 20's partiers thrown in. Its a relaxed atmosphere compared to Caesars and Borgata. Floor drink service is hit or miss. Either they come around every 5 minutes or you don't see them for 45 minutes. This can be frustrating. Security is very good, this is the 2nd trip in a row that a security guard came up to introduce themselves to me while I was playing. Nice touch.

So, all in all, Showboat is a decent place in AC to stay and play. Not the best, which is the Borgata in my opinion, but definitely nowhere near the worst.

I stayed at the Showboat for a very quick trip to Atlantic City 5/22-5/23. I booked a room in the Bourbon Tower and it was lovely. The bed was comfy, the sofa and other furniture new and nice (no stains, frayings, etc.), and the plasma TV was great! The room was small, but tidy - definitely had been cleaned well and kept up. The construction noise didn't phase me - think of the sound as the equivalent of someone vacuuming in another part of the house. I found it easy to block out. My only problem was that the walls truly are paper thin. You'll hear everything from an occupied room next door - conversations, the sound of something being dropped on the floor, a toilet flushing, etc. I do not remember such thin walls in the Orleans tower, and if you're a light sleeper I'd probably recommend staying there. With only one exception I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. There are a number of different dining options (from the obligatory buffet to higher end restaurants) and a nice variety of slots. My room was comped and I would definitely stay here again, but next time in the (quieter) New Orleans Tower.

  • Liked — The room was comped, it was nice, and the view was great!
  • Disliked — Very thin walls!

I reserved both a House of Blues Suite and two regular rooms. It was for a bachlorette party weekend. The Suite was amazing. It had this morroccan theme with all the amenities. It even had mood lighting, 2 bathrooms and extravagant furnishings! We hosted my sister's party there for about 12 guests. i ordered some tasty finger foods and beers from room service that everyone enjoyed. My only complaint with the room was the plasma TV above the faux fireplace did not work. We didn't turn it on till after midnight and at that time service had went home. They offered a $25.00 room credit because they could not fix it or change our room at that point. This didn't seem fair to me (the cost of the room was over $700) and so I was told to call mangement in the am. I was put on hold for 45 minutes and then gave up. I guess I should have taken the $25.
The other rooms in the Orlean Tower was decent, nothing special, a bit dated but clean. It was spacious enough for all the girls to sleep comfortably.
We went to the Savage Men show and Club Worship. The club was nice and the DJ played great music. The show was a bit much. We paid to have the bride in the "hot seat" where they call her on stage and she's part of the show. It was pretty sleezy Lots of groping and grinding. But hey...it was a male strip show so I guess it should be expected.
The casino was ok. They has few tables and the slots are pretty dated.
My next complaint was when I got home. I paid all in cash but they held the security on my debit card. No one told me it would take 10 days for the money to be credited back to me. So my account was charged almost $2000 and I had to wait almost the full 10 days for it it credited. I wish front desk told me that when I handed them a debit card. I called to complain and was told that's policy....sorry.
I don't think I would stay at Showboat again. I do reco the suite though. It's a great enviroment for a party or a romantic evening.

This was my third visit to A/C and my first stay at Showboat. Overall, it was a good experience, but I can see why others have been disappointed.
Unfortunately, the first impression (front desk) is the worst part. I didn't have any problems with staff rudeness, nor did I witness others having such, but the desk was severely under-staffed resulting in a long check-in line. After about a 45 minute wait, I got to the desk only to find that the room I had requested (smoking) was not available. They placed me in the Orleans Tower for my first night then moved me to a smoking room in the Bourbon Tower for the rest of my stay. Each room was very nice. The room in the Orleans Tower was newly refurbished with nice fixtures, a VERY spacious bath and large bedroom with couch, side chair, desk and tv. If you are a person "of size" you might want to request a room like this as it is the first tub I've seen in a long time that would accommodate even a very large individual. The room I moved to in the Bourbon Tower was equally nice but did not have as large a tub (it was still pretty big) but did have a plasma tv. My only complaint with service occurred during the changeover. I contacted the desk to see when I could move to the new room and the operator I spoke to was very short and somewhat demanding: "Are you ready to move Right Now?" she asked me. I responded that I "could be ready in about fifteen minutes" and she said rather curtly: "then the answer to my question is NO." I was moved within thirty minutes with no problem though.

The casino seems smaller than some of the other Harrah's properties (Ceasars and Bally's specifically), but still had a good selection of slots. I do smoke so the new '25% rule" is not to my liking and it seems as if the smoking area has the oldest and least exciting games. It was significantly more crowded than the non-smoking area so I suspect they will work this out. The high-limit slot area is very small and does not have a good selection of games. Table games seemed the same as everywhere else. Drink service was good, especially once the cocktail waitresses realized that I was tipping. I noticed that many people were not, which I think is rude. You're pumping tons of money into a slot machine with only a marginal pay-off, yet you can't give the waitress that hoofs your drink across a huge casino in heels (!) a lousy buck??? People, the drinks are free...the service is not!

Food service is somewhat limited. I am a night owl and the only 24-hour food available is at the Canal Street Bread Company which serves pre-prepared cold sandwiches and hot bagel sandwiches late at night. Just OK tasting. I found the buffet to be better than most reviewers on this site. Good selection and a moderate price. The dinner buffet is $21.99. For comparison sake, the Lunch buffet at the Trump Taj Mahal is $21.99 and had about 1/4 the selection of Showboat, plus is old and dirty. Speaking of the "Taj," it's right next door and can be reached through an enclosed walkway next to the House of Blues. The gaming floor there is much larger and also has good service. Steer clear of the food though.
Overall, this was a good experience at a fair price and was better than I expected. I would stay at the Showboat again.

This place used to be the nuts. Check in was the best in AC. Now ? Rude agents! They act like its a chore to check you in. And this is with a $20 tip just for showing up! Was put in the Orleans tower. Still okay, but showing her age all too soon. Slots ? Give me a break. Old games. Old, old, old. Never won a penny. Think long and hard about coming to this place. Better treatment up north in Connecticut. Even had a better time in Philly at the smoke palace called Philly Park. That's bad.
